The athletic released one today for 3 rounds:

No. 36: Will McDonald IV, Edge, Iowa State
No. 69: Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA
No. 77 (via NE): Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan

I honestly haven't had time to look into Schoonmaker. I really like the first 2 picks as prospects and McDonald is likely my top choice for #36. Not sure if I'd be thrilled or disappointed with Charbonnet at 69. Big fan, just not sure thats what we should use that pick on. The prospects that go just before Charbonnet would piss me off: Adebawore (who I'd be happy with at 36), Cam Smith, Michael Schmitz. Brents, G. Williams, Steen and Hooker are still on the board after him also.

Imagine having the chance to get JMS, Adebawore, or Cam Smith with our 3rd round pick. Would be incredible.
I think we save R2/R3 draft pick for RB until next year. Rams have too many other needs that would benefit from a year of prep. I believe RB is one of few positions where a rookie can be plugged in the first year and be productive.

Solid point, and true. I also don't hate that idea. That said, McVay has drafted a RB in every draft he's been here, so, chances are good he will again. I prefer it wasn't one of our top 3 picks though.

Some RBs can make the OL and run game look better. Remember what our OL looked like when Anderson came in. It was night and day from what they were doing prior. He completely changed their mentality just being in the backfield.

Check out the film of the games prior to him coming in then the Cards game. RBs might be a dime a dozen but they can still have enormous impact. It's not all about the OL.

I'm all aboard McDonald/Brents acquisitions. Those are 2 guys that can lead our defense for years. I will have to do some work on Schoonmaker, but, initial looks into him have my interest.
He's not my favorite TE and if we're missing on the top few I might prefer to wait a round or two but he'll do IMO I'd be curious to see what we can do with him.

Really don’t like any of those “expert” picks. I’ve seen many better from our ROD members that I’d take first.

He'd certainly be able to play quickly. There's that.

Rams need to take the best player available at 36. A first round talent is going to fall. Needs can be addressed afterwards.

You mean like how they had to take Jimmy Kennedy when he fell out of the top 10 after everyone thought he was going top 5? I don't think the rams even scouted him and just took him because they couldn't believe their luck. Beware the falling player.

I think shoonmaker is to early there but I wouldn’t be appalled by this draft.

Charbonnet runs as smooth as butter, is polished in the pass game as a dominant route runner and the one knock on every back coming out the draft is pass blocking, he’s pretty decent at that to. I’d love that pick. Somehow I doubt we pick up a Rb there though.

Using a 3rd from next year's draft to boost this year's haul is a great idea, imo.
You're hoping to maximize 24.. so need more guys with a year of experience.. there's a wealth of talent in this year's top 100. If you can trade down a little.. and throw in that 3rd.. you could end up with 5-6 picks close to the top 100. That would crush.

I don’t see us taking anything away from our 2024 picks. Rams seem to be setting that draft up to have as much ammo as possible.

But, your point is valid on experience and it can’t be all about 2024. We have to play in 2023, too.

I think that was what he meant. Taking from 2024 to draft a player this season.
The price tag might be worth it paying it forward.

Example of a player I like in 3rd/4th rd. TE Michigan. He is a 5th year senior (mature) who is filled out & can block.
If he slips to the 4th rd. I’d give up a 2024 th rd pick.

One of the most notable draft "experts" Dane Brugler came out with his full 7 round mock yesterday, the results:

Los Angeles Rams

2 (36): Will McDonald IV, Edge, Iowa State
3 (69): Quan Martin, S, Illinois
3 (77): Tank Bigsby, RB, Auburn
5 (167): Jordan McFadden, G, Clemson
5 (171): Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon
5 (177): Starling Thomas V, CB, UAB
6 (182): Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
6 (189): SirVocea Dennis, LB, Pitt
6 (191): Bryce Baringer, P, Michigan State
7 (223): Andre Carter II, Edge, Army
7 (251): Alex Ward, LS, UCF

Not in love with Martin, he's a in box safety who was not good in coverage last year. Good athlete though. And no CB until our last pick in 5th seems like a poor decision. Outside of Carter, I don't know much about the picks after 5th round, but Carter would be well worth the pick here. He's raw as heck.

Never say never... but the only scenario where I see this occurring is if there's a position of strength in this draft class (CB, Edge, etc) where we feel we need to get a player and our scouts are saying it's gonna be a weak class the following year.

I would see this most likely in a move up from the 5th round.

Starting out with McDonald would make our draft, no matter what happens from there. But I have to think in that scenario there is enough corner quality to fill that need with 69 or 77. And if not then maybe I double down on that defensive front with a NT for AD's other side.

But if they get McDonald I'm gonna be celebrating.

Really dig your 1st two picks though I don't think that AA will be there at 36.

McDonald would be great, some combination of McDonald, corner and pass catcher the 1st three picks even without a trade down scenario would make me very happy.

I'll say again... Look to who the Rams had into visit or met with at the combine... Also, they tend to focus on seniors and juniors.

It's rare they take someone we don't have any idea about
