Watching this, a few things seem a little clearer to me.

1. They are not drafting a QB high. If Jimmy stays, probably not drafting a QB at all except maybe one real late.

2. They will do everything they can to maximize this roster while Stafford is here.

3. When asked about Jimmy Lake being the CB coach, he stressed that he is aligned with him & Shula. Makes me think there may have been disagreements on secondary scheme between Pleasant & Shula? Maybe?

4. Don't count on 13 personnel being as prevalent this coming season. All depends on the roster make up and depth at TE/WR.

5. Definitely will be incorporating some of Kingsbury's offense to some degree.

BTW, I hope that doesnt mean we become too pass happy. I credit LaFleur for bringing that physical SF rushing attack here. Will it stay here?

I'm not a fan of him talking about what they are willing to trade in the media. To me this is why Snead almost never pulls one over on another team. Why broadcast that they'd be willing to trade a 1st? If I was a rival GM, I wouldn't just ask the Rams for anything less but in fact for probably more.
Because Snead isn't saying something that isn't obvious or can't be gleaned by other means. No need to waste energy on being purposefully obtuse. That energy is better placed into - say - scouting.

What and how they incorporated Kingsbury will be interesting: could they pick up some of his quick game/tempo in both play calls and routes run? Will we see less condensed sets or different spacing when we go spread, possible, just a little.

Kingsbury has a very static offense - WR's tend to just play one side of the field and that's it - so there's a lot of stuff they're gonna leave on the dust pile. (I don't think the benefit of this approach outweighs the negatives).

He's literally saying he's willing to trade a 1st, that's not something he needs to say. Now GMs know the minimum to take from him. Not smart negotiating ahead of time imo.

This would only matter if he was negotiating with morons. And then if he was the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I think that's a bit much ado about nothing. If there is one thing teams know about Snead it's that practically nothing is off the table. Before he said it, did you think any draft pick was off the table? I sure didn't. If anything, it probably makes other GMs more apt to pick up the phone in a hurry if Les is calling.

There seems to be this narrative among Rams fans that Snead constantly gets fleeced in negotiations. I don't buy it. I think he goes in knowing what he is willing to give for what he wants in return. Sometimes that means giving more than fans think he should. I'm sure ATL fans thought just the opposite last year.

There is a reason Les is considered by virtually everyone as one of the top GMs in the league.

Hes better than all of us at this. Look at his job title and track record.
No one isn't saying he isn't good but telegraphing what your willing to trade ahead of time doesn't really help with the haggling part of negotiations. Sorry, ya just can't convince me otherwise.

Here's something that the Rams have been hinting at for a month but I haven't seen much discussion on.

Les suggests that some of "reshaping the secondary" could be schematic changes. McVay implied something similar last month.

Don't kill me for this, but I got the sense that priority one will be scheme tweaks. After that, they want to add a CB1. Beyond that, we may see the same caliber of CB that they had last year.

Love your posts Chapo, but I think you are worrying needlessly on this one. IMO Snead said nothing more than any other GM would say. Snead is basically saying, "any of our players could be traded. Any of our draft picks could be traded." Every team in the NFL knows that every player and every pick has a price.

IMO Snead has fleeced tons of teams over the years. Giving up RG3 for three 1sts and a 2nd. Trading up for Goff and turning around the franchise. Getting Stafford. Getting Ramsey and then Miller for the Lombardi. A whole bunch of minor trades in 2023 and 2024 that led to tons of monster picks (Puka, Turner, Avila, Young, Corum, Verse, the list goes on and on). Then last year, Fleecing the Falcons so they could waste it on a felon while we get an extra first rounder.

Snead has done a ton of trades to make the Rams hugely successful over the last decade. His vague comment about "being willing to part with a it's rounder for the right player" doesn't give any team any team any insider info or any negotiating leverage, IMO. Nothing more than a general statement saying he's open for business.

Blah Blah Blah - Les Snead is going to try to do what’s Best 4 The Rams Period ! You can be a HATER if you like.

IMO - he’s done an excellent job over The Years & he works well with his Head Coaches. He has evolved as a GM & with Sean Mcvay more importantly. He seems to continue to CRUSH The Draft! Mcvay wanted D” Adams & to get rid of Kupp.
What happens to players isn’t always on him.Mcvay & Demoff both work in between him.

Love Sneads mindset. He's so right, FA to fill some needs helps drafting players that can contribute.

Well The Rams need CB’s,at least 1 that is a shutdown type.If not then at least a every down plus player.

IMO The Rams have a couple ascending DB’s(safeties) that might find there way at The Least on 53 Man Roster from the Practice Squad & Training Camp from last season.

Don’t stop to think a player like AJ Arcuri is a player that continues to get better as an example.Sooner or later RAMS like that will stick & find there way onto The Roster. At least that’s imo.If you look at how The NFL has evolved from COVID,we’ll see this be a trend for The BETTER NFL TEAMS.The Rams will be an example of how The NEW PRACTICE SQUAD & 90 MAN works.

Well don’t be SURPRISED if Ahkello & Durant are both back in 2026.Emanuel Forbes is a player The Rams might want to sign into a 3 year deal ? They do need to improve at CB for sure, but then again who knows where the dominos fall ?

The Rams need a game changer on Offense & Defense. If Higbee signs then TE is sort of crossed off.Now The Rams need a WR at some point.
The still will need to find that DEFENSIVE PLAYER MAKER.That will at least be a DB.I’d say there Draft Board will tighten as Free Agents sign. There is ALWAYS a NEED though & BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE by POSITION.
—SO it’s not an exact science &
Blah blah blah to me.There is a formula to all of Les Sneads mad scientist ways though.
