"You're telling me!" Signed, Jim KellyCase you didnt know winning a SB is hard......
People keep bringing that up even though he JUST signed a big extension AND he made a comment in one of the recent interviews about how he learned so much since his burnout year and has figured out more of a balance and then said something like he's going to coach as long as they'll have him.I'm not worried about McVay burning out or leaving anytime soon. He AND the Rams have figured out how to balance the demands of his job and he's, obviously, loving it.
McVay is a coach.. it's his thing.
I’d go a step further and note McVay went with 2 different QBs.Yeah, I didn't know how to take the comment you're responding to. He's been to 2 in 9 years, played in the CCG in another. That's 33% he's been either in a SB or win and in situation to go to the SB. You're right it's fucking hard. How many did Madden get to in 10 years? One. Parcells? Three.....in 19 years. John Harbaugh? 1 in 18 years.Tomlin? 2 in 19 years. Jim Harbaugh? 1 in 6 years, which equates to 1.5 in 9 years. Some people act like Belichick or Andy Reid or Bill Walsh or .....(name any coach more successful than McVay)..... are the rule instead of the RARE exception. Mike Shanahan? 2 in 20 years. Mike Holmgren 3 in 17 years. Jimmy Johnson 2 in 9 years. And like I said, McVay has done it in the best division in football. Thanks to McVay we EXPECT to be in the Super Bowl (and win it).
Excellent point. It's not like that doesn't make it more difficult. It does. But it's a validation of the system. QB has something to do with it, particularly the different results but like you point out, how many have got there with different QBs? The number is looooow.I’d go a step further and note McVay went with 2 different QBs.
Go down the list of HCs who appeared in SBs and note how many have gone with more than 1. Even Vince Lombardi didn’t do that. Neither did belicheat or walsh.

He said it in one of these interviews:
I think he has grown a lot as coach and culture builder since he arrived. I was his biggest critic for a long time. I'm official won over! See my signature. He's also really evolved to be able to squeeze every bit of juice out of his roster. I really don't think this Rams team was all that great 2-3 years ago, as compared to today. Yet we could have went all the way those years. It's been pretty amazing to watch.
His clock management is awful though. Probably bottom 5-10 in the NFL, despite being elite on aggregate, and it has absolutely cost us games, including being a big factor in some playoff losses. You take the good with the bad I guess. I wouldn't trade him for any other head coach. But at this point, I doubt he corrects that particular weakness. You have to think he is who he is at this point and would have changed already, if he was going to. Hopefully he just admits that shortcoming and hires help in that regard. Didn't Andy Reid hire someone specifically to manage the clock?
Yes, his clock management and challenge flag usage are definitely his weak points.I think he has grown a lot as coach and culture builder since he arrived. I was his biggest critic for a long time. It would be so much worse if his weak points were play calling or hiring unqualified assistant coaches; terrible roster management or lousy player-coach communication; panic under pressure or blind self evaluation. There could be dozens of potential weak points so much worse and dibilitating than clock management and challenge flag usage.Yes, his clock management and challenge flag usage are definitely his weak points.

Agree 100%I wouldn't take any other coach currently in the NFL over him. None. Nada. Zilch. Period.
