McVay knows what he needs to win football games.

That was apparent from his first moves as new head coach of the Rams continuing on to last season's blockbuster trade.

His second guessers on this board look pretty silly now and shall remain nameless in order to protect the foolish.

What? I am going to name one just for selling his seats to a 49er fan.

After OBJ went down, McVay tried to go to the run...but he kept running inside where Cincy had 7 in the box practically...and that was not wise. No screens or toss sweeps to the outside. He has an excellent receiving RB in Henderson and he didn't use Jim.

Fans who know football could see those things...and McVay is not above criticism. Having said that, he is a great coach because he got it figured out and the Rams won!

And adding to this post, Raheem is not above criticism as well for some of his play calls but he got it figured out in the second half and should have shut out Cincinnati in the second half if not for a horrible non-call and a bad play by Skow.

I was wondering about some screen passes too. I would have to rewatch the game on the outside runs vs inside. Nothing seemed to work in the run game. I wonder if teams have picked up on a Rams run tell. They were run stuffed three playoff games in a row.

Some media guy (can't remember maybe it was Jeff Saturday) said that McVay kept running to protect Stafford. That made a lot of sense. By running the football the Bengals couldn't just tee off on Safford which may have forced more turnovers and even injury. He also shifted the RBs back in to help block more when they did pass.

McVay can improve on time-out usage. I would like to see him a little more reserved on the sideline. I know he is emotional but, I would rather he stay a little more even-keeled.

Hard to imagine where the Rams would be without McVay and his relationships with Snead, Kronke and the rest of the organization.

I don’t think there is a more coveted coach in the NFL. I firmly believe any GM in the league would happily trade their head coach for him.

And it’s not just his play designs - his ways of creating matchups and opportunities - it’s his leadership.

This guy holds players accountable but also owns it when it’s on him. He learns, he grows, he recovers from mistakes.

LA is a destination team - not just because guys want to play with AD, Ramsey, Kupp, Stafford and the gang, but because they want to play for him.

I believe when the Rams lost Mundt, their best blocking TE at the time, they lost an edge. While the team should have gone shopping here, they went with the rather unproven Blanton, moving him up from the practice squad and ahead of Hopkins on the depth chart. It took weeks, but McVay did start to experiment with using a Jumbo 6'th offensive lineman for blocking purposes as a TE. First it was Noteboom, then the illustrious Bobby Evans, when both didn't really take to it, Shelton had a go at it and it appeared to help some, although McVay didn't stick with it and there wasn't really an explanation. Blanton, who had some nice moments receiving was quickly thought to be next in line after Higbee, but then he had a rather miserable Super Bowl, and his blocking skills were exposed. Hopkins, on the other hand, shined for really the first time, but with such limited snaps, it's pretty difficult to determine how far this one game can take him. Either way, the Rams must improve their run blocking on both the OL and TE positions for our team to not become one dimensional.

I think McVay fully grew into himself as a coach this year. He was able to have a shit ton of fun.. but remain calmly intense when needed. He showed a new level of maturity and it showed in his team.

I agree, specifically the 2nd half of the season after the losing streak. It seemed as though he accepted the ethos that to have continued success you must at least attempt to have a balanced offense.
His commitment to the run even when it wasn't successful was new to most all of us and showed tremendous patience and maturity.
I think the above mentioned commitment to the run along with the adjustments he made late in the game to address what had become an anemic offense for most of the 2nd half will really be an incredible addition offensive ethos.
Next season could be a lot of fun, I see some OL adjustments as we really commit to not necessarily the run game directly but the ability to utilize the run game in a productive manner.

He's obviously a great playcaller and his insane dedication is why we are where we are, but I'd much rather him hand off playcalling duties and take a small step back for his mental health than have him retire and sink back into mediocrity.

IMO all the nonsense about McVay leaving to be a broadcaster IMO is calling Kroenke's bluff. There are reports that Kroenke played hardball with McVay's contract and underpaid him. Maybe Kroenke should dust off his wallet and pay the man that has delivered. Even if he's not as some believe, underpaid, he should be rewarded for getting the Rams to 2 SBs in 5 years winning one. Time for a bonus and a contract extension to end all this quitting talk. It's not good for the team to think their leader might be leaving.

Yeah, McVay is the best Rams coach in the teams history......and it aint close.
Now, we need him to have a Tomlin sort of stay in the position....in terms of longevity not quality as McVay is much better than Tomlin.
Im sure getting paid a million a week (like Romo) to watch a couple of hours of film and watch a game a week is very appealing to him.
I think he stays as long as Stafford is here at a minimum.

It's all a contract negotiation move, IMO.

McVay is still very young, and he is hyper competitive. You have to think he would want to run it back and try and establish himself as among the coaching GOATs. What is realistically stopping him? It would also see McVay leaving lots of money on the table.

He talks about wanting family time and the reality of burnout. Well he isn't even married just yet, nor does he have a baby on the way (which, of course, will take 9+ months to arrive even when in the oven).

I could see McVay stepping away from football early for family reasons etc. And then maybe returning to coaching again later on in life if he gets the itch. But I don't see him leaving in advance of the 2022-23 season. It makes no sense to me. What does make sense is trying to secure the bag before an early career ending a few more years down the road.

If he does leave, the Rams are in trouble. You have to think very few or our FAs would want to return, but would instead quite reasonably go money chasing.
