Kind of a loaded statement by Jeremiah, " a backup quarterback"

First of all, if the Rams think he's a 10-year Franchise Quarterback, and I'm NOT saying they do, he will be a backup Quarterback for 1-2 years.

Secondly, as far as the Rams being a dropped punt away from a Super Bowl. The Rams have already made up the gap, if there even WAS one between them and Seattle. Seattle has gotten worse. Rams have gotten better already before the Draft (McDuffie and Watson) so Rams don't NEED this pick to be an instant impact player.

I'm not saying if I had to put money on it the Rams are selecting Simpson. I do think however they are lurking as the 3rd or 4th most likely team to do so.
Of course, he's speaking from a mindset of the team selecting someone who might offer immediate help to the final goal.

Besides, removing any so-called gap between the Rams and Seattle shouldn't be the focus. It's a different season. The Rams have improved, but so have other teams in the NFC. The 49ers won twelve games minus injured key players. The Cowboys are a defense away from being a significant issue and they are attacking that issue this offseason. The Bears will be in their 2nd year under Ben Johnson....etc... It's a whole new ballgame.

Oh yes of course it is. And Carolina improved as well. Just that the way he put it including the dropped punt implies that the Rams are going to take a player for NOW.

My only point was, and is a big if, if the Rams love Simpson long-term they would have no problem drafting him and sitting him a year or two. All this while remaining fully capable to win the next Super Bowl.

Dont worry Merlin, LOL, he wont be a Ram. We have 3rd best odds for a reason. I really dont want Arizona to get him cause I think he's gonna be good. Hope it's Jets at 16, dont think he makes it to Day 2.

As predicted yesterday, Rams have 3rd best odds of Drafting Simpson.....

Honestly, I think the odds we draft him are far higher then the Jets. The Jets whole intent is acquiring assets to get a franchise guy next year where the QB pickings will be much brighter. I can't see a world in which they use a premium asset this season on a non-sure fire franchise QB. They have so many needs and this is the perfect year for them to build the team up for the next guy. I'd put it: 1. Cards 2. Rams 3. Steelers personally. I would be stunned if Jets take him. If they do, they clearly would believe he is the franchise QB they need, but I doubt it. With their current team make up, no QB can hope to succeed.

I think the Bucs are a sleeper team to draft him. Baker's contract ends after this season and I doubt the Bucs want to pay him 50m/yr when they are only a fringe playoff team.

Jets signed Geno to man the post and hopefully lose enough games to be in the running for 1st pick.

Good write-up Flat. Even on the Jets Simpson would sit this year so that's not a big concern. Im with you in that they MAY take him but if i had to choose I'd say they wont. Rams a big lurker here. Per Riddick, Jeremiah, a little McShay. On a yes/no bet though I'd bet no.

I am having a hard time imagining the Rams investing #13 on something for next year or later. Especially when you consider how they went hardcore to address our greatest weakness from last year (CB).

This is a Superbowl team. #13 will add to our run THIS YEAR!

Maybe, but Snead also mentioned in a recent interview that they have to look at both the short-term and the long-term impact of the moves that are made. Talked about how they didnt want to get in a situation like 2022 again. So if a BPA is there that isn't a big need right now, but could be a big need in 27', they may go that route.

Do you say The Rams will pass on a OT like Oldschool ? There are 2 for sure I think McSneed won’t pass on.
Is there 3 WR’s they pass on,or a TE ? Super curious on what The Rams & there direction is going to be ?

I honestly have no clue what they’re thinking ? If they go TE it will show how they want to impact The NFL.IMO that would put them in a Power Position.I like the practice squad players at TE & WR.
The O”Line is the biggest question mark ?
Have to add a QB ?IMO The Rams bring back Jimmy G & scape up all the change they have to afford him ?

The Great Phil Simms gives his pro comp for Ty Simpson.

Sims is saying what I pointed out above. Perhaps, just maybe, Simpson is something special if we take int consideration how sick he was over the final half of the season. He lost somewhere between 25 and 30 pounds. He also picked up an injury that effected the power of his throws

  • Accuracy and Precision: Showcases elite ball placement, especially in short-to-intermediate passing games.
  • Quick Release: Possesses a rapid, compact release that allowed him to get the ball out quickly under pressure.
  • High Football IQ: He is a student of the game who could quickly master complex, multi-read playbooks.
  • Mobility: Displayes good athleticism to scramble within the pocket and extend plays.
This report is on another 6-2 QB, also listed at 220, who didn’t have enough college experience for some scouts; there were injury concerns in terms of whether he would hold up in the NFL; and he ended up sliding but was taken in the first round

Who was it? There is another almost identical parallel but that would give it away. Another is it was supposedly a bad year to pick a QB in the first round. No looking on ChatGPT first! Guesses only please :-)

I ask because Ty Simpson put on a clinic in his pro-day. He ticks all of the above boxes; is the son of a coach; and has perhaps the best overall arm talent in this draft. His arm is stronger than scouting reports said. It should get stronger as he gets older. Watch his pro-day highlights. He made all the throws look easy. OK it’s in shorts but his tape shows he is comfortable making decisions under pressure. His tape did get worse second half of the season, but…

He spoke about why his performance dipped across the second half of the season. He spoke about how he’s was playing under 200 as a result of a long term illness brought in by a reaction to medicine; and how he’s back where he needs to be from a physical perspective having added more weight and muscle since the combine

I am starting to believe it would be a mistake to pass on him especially because his skill set fits our system well. I have posted in the past about how he played under Center and has, unlike other QBs, including the de facto no 1 pick, show he can turn his back to play and still do a great job of progressing through his reads quickly, calmly and efficiently

I’m putting it out there, perhaps we should take Simpson at 13 and then turn to C, LB, CB, OT or WR (not necessarily in that order) with our next picks

I'm WITH ya, Tackle. I would be stoked if we took him at 13. Kid has the most important quality for Quarterback, a great brain.

I dont think any player they take at #13 is a guaranteed impact player. I suppose a WR would see some snaps but outside of an injury to Puka or Davante, the snaps would be limited. An OT would ride pine just as much as a QB. The way I read the Rams take is that they've done what they needed to in order to improve from last year, and continually look for those sparks they can add

I dont think Lemon's snaps would be limited. Adams would lose some snaps outside of Red Zone. Puka would come out after he takes the inevitable big hits.

Seeing how McVay limits his rookies, I dont see it. Could he earn more reps? Possible. Would they draft him intending on him being a factor? I dont believe it. Davante playing for a '27 contract and has some big incentives attached to PT, unless he's hurt his snaps arent going to be limited
Who knows how much we would have even seen Puka in his rookie year if Kupp wasnt out.
In any event, nothing will surprise me

There’s also the POSSIBLE Puka Suspension looming. And Adams missed 4 games i believe to injury and is a year older. Yeah, the biggest need in this Draft serms to be Wideout. Not even sure Lemon is going to be there anymore with Tyson's drop. The "trendy" receiver these days seems to be the JSN/Amon Ra St Brown types. In other words, Lemon....
