Here's the thing, I'm not big on taking a guy 13th overall when I think at best he maxes out at top 12 in the league (IMO) if we don't have to take him. I'd rather mortgage the future next year (or most likely miss out on a QB next year, live in the wilderness for a year and then try to get one the following year).

Now if we can get Simpson with a trade down near the end of the 1st, I'm a little more open to it. Still don't love it but yeah.

If Bo Nix at basically the same height, weight, arm, and mobility can make it in this League there's no reason on green earth Simpson can't. He will. Didn't see the outrage when borderline stiffs Penix and McCarthy both went Top 12.
Big difference, bo started 61 games in college and ended up with but face as his head coach. I think the Rams will pass on this guy and a big reason will be lack of experience.

That is a big difference, but Ty will sit the first year and maybe part of a second, thats ESPECIALLY if we pick him. Love this kid's brains and intangibles and he's quick twitch like a cat.

Top 12 QB as the ceiling feels about right to me. But that's probably worth a mid-1st. We got Goff at #1 and he's been in that top 10-12 range.

The problem with mortgaging the future next year is, if things go to plan and we have a very late 1st, it's likely that the highest we can get is around the 10th to 12th pick. Trades from the 30 range into the top 10 are basically nonexistent. At pick 10 - 12, what are you getting? The fourth or fifth best QB in a deep class? Pickings may be slim by that point.

I'm also skeptical the "wilderness for a year" plan will work. McVay is too good of a coach and we have too much talent on our team to have a dry enough wilderness to get a top 5 pick. We'd likely get stuck in mid to late 1st purgatory like the Steelers.

To me the calculus is simple: if they feel Simpson can be the franchise QB with a year or two of development, you take him at 13. If you don't feel that, you pass....on the entire class.

Reasonable take. And for me, wilderness for a year is best case scenario which lends credence to what you're saying and I agree that we'd be too good to got a top 5 pick but with luck, the class next year being good we could see a glut of teams at the top the following year with no need for a QB and willingness to trade down to mid teensish.

Interesting in comparing Goff to Simpson, what you lose in height you kinda gain in athletic ability and pocket movement between the two.

Your right, but during this retool, the Rams are putting a high priority on college experience.

Orlovsky's judgement has been severely compromised the longer he works for the stupid ass morons at ESPN.
ESPN is a hot pile of shit right now but for Dan O they are not the problem. He's the dude at work who is always running his mouth before he thinks. That shit works when your job is to drive clicks at a network. But generally those types won't last long in real jobs where there is accountability.

Agree with that, but if Stafford were to retire after this coming season Simpson could be ready to go in '27. I still have a sneaking suspicion Stafford could play 3 more years.

Right, so when Dan O was insisting on how good Stafford was when he was in the hell hole of Detroit I guess he was just running his mouth before he thinks too ...?

Question: why would a guy looking to be in the industry for 20 more years until he retires put his reputation on the line for "clicks" as you call it? If guys get enough bad takes they will lose their jobs. He is saying what he is feeling, sorry if it doesn't jibe with the way you feel about a player. You can rate Dan a few years down the road when we know what Simpson actually is. I'm sure if Simpson turns out good you will give Dan credit.

Thats cause he's not. WILL play in this League.
You sound like a real belieber. I don't know whether he's going to work out or not at this level. But again taking him way up top carries a shit ton of projection and belief in the player, that he'll be able to lead an organization.

I'd like to have him on our depth chart, but as a mid to late round pick.

Also it's really good news for the Rams that he's rising on the boards. He'll push another player down to us.

Mid to late round pick? Are you paying attention to the upcoming NFL draft? He's going in the 1st or the top of the 2nd. Not saying we are taking him but don't know how you could talk about him as if he's a mid round pick.

What kind of logic is that. As a counter argument it's a rather meaningless approach to take. Turns out, obviously, that he had that one right.

But when he was talking Stafford up, I remember thinking to myself what an annoying fuck he is, the kind of dude who runs his mouth just to hear himself talk. And people like that generally get their asses handed to them in more serious environments. Where, again, there is accountability.

Yes. Which means I would follow my board and let some other team overdraft the fuck out of him.

He's on the air, he's giving his opinion. He's an ex- quarterback, he backed up the great Matthew Stafford in Detroit, he knows about the position. Judge him on his record. I've seen him hit on players before, I don't have the exact records but maybe research his draft predictions from the previous 5 drafts or something.

And that is a completely reasonable position. Not saying "I will take him in the mid to late rounds" for a guy who is obviously getting drafted on day ONE.

Whatever you say Mrs. Orlovsky.
