Rams' culture is strong. Why the fuck would they EVER consider getting anywhere near Rodgers?!
Cuz McVay could probably straighten his ass out is the thinking. Not the biggest fan of it but I'd give it a chance. Worst case if he bombs out, we'll have a high pick to choose a quarterback of the future starting in 2026.

Surely we are not going the way of the Patriots, by getting rid of our top notch QB and then wondering through the weeds for years looking for the next one until we work our way down to the team picking number one in the draft?
We are eventually going to have to start over someday. Is Stafford good? Of course he is, but he's also very close to the end of his career and his value isn't going to get better than it is now.

Kelly could be bullshitting from a bargaining standpoint so Stafford doesn't look like the bad guy if it doesn't work out. For all we know Stafford is asking for a lot of money minus a discount but then on the public side having his wife make it seem like he's taking a discount.
She could be bullshitting but it will all come out in the wash once it becomes known what he's signed for with the Rams or a new team. If his restructured contract is less than market rates, then he will be taking a discount.

I agree I don't think it makes sense for us. I'd rather if we dump Stafford we make a push for Lawrence. Not sure there's a FA we would like except maybe Darnold but not sure what McVay thinks about him.
I like Lawrence but I think if we do that, the Jags are going to view us as a desperate ass team and ask for a lot. Depending on what they ask, could it be worth it? I say yes as long as we don't get fucked over on picks too bad. If the Rams did make that trade, it's obvious that McVay likes Lawrence big time so I'd trust that.

Yeah that's the hard part is separating the fact from the fiction. It will definitely become much clearer what the story is once everything is settled.

Well this would depress the fuck out of me. All though getting the #3 pick I'm all for I am not all for Rodgers. IF we traded Stafford I'd rather rent Jimmy G, Cousins, Fields, Darnold, whoever for one year before I'd ever offer money to Rodgers to come and be a distraction.

I like his idea. 1.3 this year and maybe a 2nd or a 3rd. No mention of us giving up 26. That would be some crazy ammo for us. Move down from 3 to get a 1st next year and we are cooking with gas here. Quick re-up on a franchise QB. Stafford could retire next season. If he does that and we retain him this year, we get zero and are frantic to find a guy.

Yeah I'm not advocating the trade just thinking he'd be worth going after.

Why would Matthew Stafford voluntarily go play for the Giants? They aren’t anywhere near contending and they have one of the worst offensive lines in football.

He would likely just retire if the Rams tried to ship him somewhere like that. He’s got the leverage. If they don’t want to pay him, they are going to have to send him somewhere where he wants to go, not necessarily what gets the Rams the best return.

Playing devils advocate with a question…

Which QB in 2025 is more desperate/driven to win a Super Bowl at this point in time? Putting all things aside like personality and talent etc.

Rodgers or Stafford?
Well played. Stafford and it's not close imo.

I wouldn't necessarily be mad. If Stafford doesn't want to be here , guess what? I'd say thank you for getting us a Superbowl and trade his ass for the highest pic you can get. This is about the LA Rams not the LA Staffords.
Everyone wants to be somewhere for a price. Wake me up when numbers start flying between Rams and Stafford.

Getting the best pick won’t happen. Stafford has all the leverage. He could just threaten retirement if he doesn’t like the Rams trade partner. He gets to pretty much dictate where the Rams trade him if it comes to that. If he retires, the Rams get nothing in return and they take a nasty dead cap hit. So either they agree on a deal, or Stafford picks his new team and they work out the best deal possible with that team. There aren’t really any other options.

I can see Aaron Rodgers walking into the Rams locker room already under the new slogan for 2025: Me Not We!
If we did sign Rodgers, I hope they make a rule that he can't give any interviews or appear on any podcasts/social media/etc..

Are we the the Giants without Stafford? We have Puka, they have Nabers. We have Kyren, they have Tracy. We have the OL edge. But they gave young defensive talent. We do too.

Like what the Jets told him he'd have to do if he wanted to stay?

Guys, McVay has a reputation for riding his QBs hard* and wanting them to do it his way, the main reason Goff was able to do well for a bit was a guy named LaFleur who just happened to work as well as you could with the diva in Green Bay.

McVay and Rodgers would be like watching a car crash. Morbidly fun I guess but over very quickly.

*It's been bandied about that Darnold would actually not do well here cause McVay would tear into him for the boneheaded plays and he needs a tremendous amount of hand holding.

it's not just and edge with our Oline. They could field 5 of us on the line and have about the same success they had this year.

That's what makes me think this is all about money. In Stafford's mind, the current contract doesn't have to be honored. Maybe there was a gentleman's agreement last summer that if they couldn't come to a deal now that he could opt out of the rest of his contract (hopefully with some signing bonus refund coming back to the Rams for cap relief).

Then only "discount" in play is how much Stafford would take below his FA market value to stay in LA.
