I hate this trade. And I really wish we had gotten Watson too. But we have to get away from the health issues thing with Stafford. He has played 16 games in 9 of the last 10 years. He's not injury prone.

There is some mileage on that odometer. Broken back in 2019 and fought through hand, ankle and rib injuries last year.

Rams need to boost the offensive line and do what they can to keep him available.

Well, I have calmed down.

MATT STAFFORD,

WELCOME TO THE LOS ANGELES RAMS!
I won't be calming down anytime soon.

I posted that I would be pissed if the Rams didn't get Watson and I am.

Plus two firsts and a third - this is just beyond incomprehensible

The more I digest this, the more I am at peace with it. I have always liked Stafford and I am excited to see what he can do In this system. Snead and McVay have earned the benefit of the doubt, even if I think they handled this poorly from a PR standpoint. Go RAMS!!!!!

Also, has anyone checked in on @Ewe83?? We may need to talk her off a ledge at this point.

I know, I felt the same way. Still do. But give it some time. It should be interesting at least.

I have seen Goff zip passes between three defenders before many times. Ok not a no look pass but definitely between 3 defenders before.
I have too my man look who you are talking to lmao! I’ve been one of Goffs biggest supporters against those blaming him for everything.

But the no look part of it is what made it crazy and was the whole point. Plenty of qbs throw in tight coverage, most of them do not complete a pass like that while looking the other way. Regardless how you feel about the trade ... That throw was ridiculous

You guys are jumping to a lot of conclusions! You're missing the real point of this trade..and quite frankly, I expected far better from our smarter members....

We have NOT traded for Stafford! We have merely traded away Goff + his gargantuan contract! Stafford was just a spare part in the deal.

McVay and those in the know understand the real plan = Wolford is now the #1 QB, and Stafford has been brought in as the backup.

The WOLF era has begun!

(y) :cheers2:
Problem is Stafford broke bones in his back last season, missed 8 games. You gave up resources that will make it tough to find a good young QB in the next few yrs.

If Stafford can stay healthy for 3- 4 yrs, its a good deal. If he gets banged up next yr again then we are in QB hell.

Stafford is a better QB than Goff *right now*. Better anticipation, faster release, stronger arm.

Two years ago, I would have said with certainty Goff would be better long term. After the past two years, its still possible, but I'm not certain.

For the next year or two, I like the trade from the QB improvement. For the years beyond that, I absolutely HATE it. Any decline in Stafford's game, growth in Goff's, feeling the pain of the cost of in draft talent, and we're up the creek without a paddle. But hey, in 2023 we'll have more cap space. And no QB under contract.

Now, if Stafford comes in and says "I wanna win, let me sign a 5 year 50 million extension" and saves us a ton of money. my math changes again. But I don't see that happening.

So yeah, latest in a series of boneheaded decisions that the team put itself into. But it might not be disastrous.

I will give you that on the no look part.

Just that I have seen Goff complete similar passes like that when given time.

He consistently had no time this year on quite a few plays and the stat with 2.5 secs is mostly due to roll outs.

Stafford has been banged up and is over 30. That said, I can see him making hay

I am stunned but am willing to see how this plays out. He needs to deliver SB wins or else this trade was a huge waste. So the bar has been set high

Two important aspects:

This finally puts to bed the Goff v Wentz debate. We could have had Wentz at a fraction of the price but were not interested

What the hell does this do in terms of our impeding defensive FAs?

Shelter said 43 million in cash which means guaranteed money I believe right?
Detroit took on:
Goff's 2021 salary + bonus 27.8 mill + Stafford dead money 19 mill= 46.8 mill in cap space
2022 guarantee bonus- 15.5 mill
Total guaranteed- 62.3 mill

Rams took on:
Stafford salary + bonus 20 mill + Goff dead money 22.3 mill= 42.3 mill in cap space
Total guaranteed- 42.3 mill
2022 non guaranteed 23 mill- 65.3 total

So unless I'm not understanding this, the Rams only come out ahead if they cut Stafford after 2021
Or they restructure, which of course the same can be said for Detroit

I agree with you wholeheartedly that our line is worse than the 2.5 second number would lead you to believe. And it’s not our line as a whole it’s mostly Blythe being THAT BAD. I believe it’s the reason our line ranks better than you’d expect and plays worse than the numbers. Overall as a unit ...not bad when healthy but when the center gives up pressure as quickly Blythe does it’s kinda irrelevant that whitworth pancakes his guy.

That being said the 2.5 number is pocket time and is not affected by roll outs. How do I know? I made the same mistake you did and was proven wrong. I figured I’d let ya know before one of these jerks try’s to rub your nose in it. The 2.5 is inflated because we run play action so much.

Look at it this way. It's clear that nobody wanted Goff's contract without incentives. So it costed us 2 firsts to move Goff for stafford, what would it have costed to move him for watson? 5?!

They can extend stafford and make the money spread out. Just a one year extension

lol....

Well I think we saw something like this coming.

I'll admit I think Goff has regressed -

But Stat Padford? And two first rounders?

Hey I'm hoping it works out for sure - but I always had an inkling Snead was a dumbfuck.

Hope he proves me wrong.

I know, I said that. But so too can Detroit. I'm just not seeing this big $$ save.
I am wondering if re-structuring Goff was a possibility to make his contract more tradable. Not that we can believe everything we hear, but there is plenty of talk about other teams offering Detroit more for Stafford, but I have yet to see a team that had been interested in trading for Goff....
