Just based on his tape I’m most excited to see how Paul looks in person.Paul's gonna push for that job in camp man. I'll be surprised if that doesn't happen. But whoever wins those roles it means we should have improved play off ball.
Im excited as hell about Dolac. I can’t wait to hear TC news and see him in action soon.Honestly, I think I love not only Speights, but all three newcomers, Landman (The Land Guardian, Guardian of the Land. ...I swear, I will push that nickname like I pushed "Kingpin" for Braden Fiske.), Paul, and Dolac at middle linebacker. I think all four of them have huge potential as starters, and it wouldn't surprise me if we did a rotation. I want all four of them to make the team (just anyone but Reeder).
And then there's Lake at the STAR position and McCollough to consider; both had a lot of snaps inside on passing downs.
When we face the Eagles in Week 3, it will be different. We are going to shut down Barkley because now we have the horses to do it, while also being good enough in coverage to prevent guys like Goedert from running rampant.
Last year Flatlyner hooked me up, so glad I was able to return the favor this year and hook up some fellow ROD members. Couldn’t imagine a camp without Bubba and Vet!Looks like VetRamFan and I are going to be there the 24th and 29th,courtesy of dpjax (thank you kind sir!)
Looking forward to posting what went on to all you Ram Fans who can't attend.
Be forewarned reports are liberally laced with barley-pop.
Limmer replacing Shelton is probably some time around 2026.OL is my big worry. Can Humphries regain what he once had? How long before Limmer takes over at center. Hopefully before Shelton gets Stafford pummeled. Hopefully one of the young OL steps up.
Totally agree. McVay is reportedly not to keen on the idea of a starting rookie QB, can’t imagine that’ll be much different at other positions as well. The rookies have to really stand out in training camp to start if there is a veteran in place that McVay trust not to shit the bead. Even then it takes an injury.
So that missed block in the playoffs cost him the starting job? I thought it would be a competition and Limmers job to lose.Limmer replacing Shelton is probably some time around 2026.
He started Avila, Nucua started due to injury, Turner & Young played a ton and were essentially starters even if they didn't start play one game one. Akers essentially started as a rookie. We have had rookie kickers, punters, and even a longsnapper.Totally agree. As per his tenure here he eases players into their roles generally.
Verse was a rare exception but the depth was kind of weak last year at LOLB.
Let me break it down for you:He started Avila, Nucua started due to injury, Turner & Young played a ton and were essentially starters even if they didn't start play one game one. Akers essentially started as a rookie. We have had rookie kickers, punters, and even a longsnapper.
So if you can play, you can start and or be an impact player early in the season.
No matter which way you look at it, depth or not, Verse FORCED his way into the starting lineup. So did Fiske. And though that probably won't change McVay's philosophy.....reluctant to start rookies....it will at least give him the knowledge that if he has to, it doesn't necessarily mean bad results. I'm not thinking starting MLB here, I'm thinking rotational RB.Totally agree. Yeah Verse and Fiske are pretty unique, I'm beyond excited to see watch their second years and seeing how they progress. No matter which way you look at it, depth or not, Verse FORCED his way into the starting lineup. So did Fiske. No shit. Most coaches if not all prefer vets over rookies. Yet McVay has leaned heavily on many rookies. BTW, I didn't even go back to Kupp & John John Johnson. Even Everett got a ton of playing tine early. He even wanted Bruss to start a few years ago, but he got hurt.Let me break it down for you:
As a general rule, as stated in my post that you quoted, McVay has stated in multiple interviews he is not a fan of starting rookies as a general procedure. Obviously in certain situations and lack of depth in years past he's had to, as he's stated as well in those podcasts.
Does this mean it's never happened before? Of course it has. But his preference is not to start rookies and throw into the fire right away as he believes development through progress generally is a better method overall.
As well, as stated in said podcasts interviews there are some positions that allow a waaaay easier transition from college to the NFL.
Take a wild guess what positions those are and aren't?
Avila and Nucua play positions that are a lot easier transition to the NFL. Started due to lack of depth and need.
Same goes with OLB/DE. Byron Started 16 of 17 games, Verse all 17 due to lack of depth and need.
DT is more difficult than the previously listed positions but not impossible, Turner only started 4 games his rookie year. Donald started 12 games.
But we are talking about the MLB position aren't we?
Which entails a lot more than just some of the easier transition positions covered.
A MLB has to literally know all of your teams defensive play calls, defensive player alignments and assignments, what to call as coverage/gap responsibility as far as adjustments go pre snap. And that's without even considering what your own individual responsibilities include and your proper procedure of reads, gap integrity, hot route scheme placement etc.
That is all being said, you have to also know what the offense is trying to accomplish with their scheme and alignments and what the percentage of the plays and type of plays are used from that particular alignment.
This is why it took a while for Speights to start last year, which again was due to depth/injury/lack of decent options.
An OG, WR, DE/OLB responsibilities are a lot more limited on the knowledge you need to possess to be an effective player right away.
And we started Reeder because of it. That was pure hell to start the season. 1 & 4 was due to OL injuries and Reeder. I am giving 50% blame to each. This is why it took a while for Speights to start last year, which again was due to depth/injury/lack of decent options.
Dude if you are still butthurt from the thread last week or whenever it was and got roasted before you were told to settle down and feel like you need to prove some type of point, well have at it.No shit. Most coaches if not all prefer vets over rookies. Yet McVay has leaned heavily on many rookies. BTW, I didn't even go back to Kupp & John John Johnson. Even Everett got a ton of playing tine early. He even wanted Bruss to start a few years ago, but he got hurt.
So I don't see where McVay is more hesitant than any other coach when it comes to playing rookies.
RB is a position that's tough to break the lineup but thats normally soely based on pass blocking ability, but that's a bit different when talking about keeping a star QB upright.
So your post on him not wanting to play rookies is really just nonsense and a non issue. If a guy can play, he will play. Simple as that.
I’d be more skeptical and nervous if he said he feels like a million bucks.I'm not nervous at all....
