Back from Baltimore with a re-newed sense of purpose, ha.

Lets start the drum up. BEAT THE DEADSKINS or whatever they are calling themselves now.

At least they arent coming off a bye like our last opponent.
It's actually the Washington Commodes

you would think the NFL wouldn't want a team named the commodes, but they do. embarrassing it is. also, we can't lose to the toilets, er... commodes either. really embarrassing. go rams.

This should be a relatively easy win. If they lose, we don’t deserve a playoff spot.

Washington will be presenting a defense Rams, I don't think, have seen a lot of this year.
it's one-gap (not gap control like a Swartz--there are different flavors of one-gap--which is another discussion)
but here the motion turns from an overshifted line to an undershifted line and the D had to reload.

They have their LBErs inside the tackles so only the line is shifted to an over or under but not the LBers

Rams ran this during Spags and Fisher era. Rivera's D is in the Fisher/Ryan family, more or less. They
can be vulnerable to the outside but are sounder in middle whereas Swartz kills OZ and more vulnerable to
IZ or Gap blocking

Will be a good matchup ... when we go 12 personnel. If we are in 11 we won't see the 4-3, will be 40 nickel

ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor:

Rams have a 75.3% chance of beating the Commodes

Rams have a 62.5% chance of beating the Saints

Rams have a 82.3% chance of beating the Giants

49ers have a 73.4% chance of beating the Rams

Here’s your weekly rooting guide if you want the Rams to get into the playoffs. This is of course the perfect scenario for each game the rest of the way. The percentages only reflect the odds if the Rams win their game. The games are ranked based on importance and impact for the Rams odds.

Week 15: 37% chance going into the week

  1. Rams victory over Commodes (48%)
  2. Buccaneers victory over Packers (52%)
  3. Bengals victory over Vikings (51%)
  4. Eagles victory over Seahawks (50%)
  5. Panthers victory over Falcons (49%)
  6. Broncos victory over Lions (48%)

Week 16: 48% chance going into the week

  1. Rams victory over Saints (66%)
  2. Panthers victory over Packers (75%)
  3. Lions victory over Vikings (71%)
  4. Titans victory over Seahawks (68%)
  5. Colts victory over Falcons (68%)
  6. Eagles victory over Giants (68%)

Week 17: 66% chance going into the week

  1. Rams victory over Giants (85%)
  2. Steelers victory over Seahawks (88%)
  3. Bears victory over Falcons (85%)
  4. Cowboys victory over Lions (85%)
  5. Packers victory over Vikings (85%)

Week 18: 85% chance going into the week

  1. Rams victory over 49ers (>99%)
IF the Rams lose (82%):

  1. Bears victory over Packers (92%)
  2. Lions victory over Vikings (87%)
  3. Cardinals victory over Seahawks (86%)
  4. Saints victory over Falcons (83%)
  5. Buccaneers victory over Panthers (83%)
The Rams have good positioning right now even at 6-7 but they must win at least three of their next four. If they win out they are almost 100-percent in. If they don’t beat the 49ers they still have a pretty big shot which is over 80-percent. They will want some help but they won’t need it if they take care of business. There are four more games, we’ll find out soon enough if the Rams will be playing in the postseason.
Thx. Very useful.
Let’s face it. If the Rams lose any of the next 3 they didn’t play their best ball and don’t belong in playoffs. They need to finish strong and carry that momentum into next season where with the rights adds and draft picks they can be legitimate NFC contenders.

Has Washingtons defensive scheme changed at all since they let go of Del Rio and Rivera took over defensive play calling?

There will be less man coverage now, more zone.

Front is the same. They had an injury to who had been their boundary corner so someone else is playing that for now but when Forbes was out earlier the same guy replaced him .. so may not even be a thing. The seemed to change how they played their outside linebackers ... but that may have been because they were in base so much.

The boundary safety remained the same...nickel remained, for the most part.

The Rams offfense is clicking. 29 points is the most an offense has scored against the Ravens all year.

The Commodes defense:

32nd in rate to WRs at 106.0
32nd in YPC to WRs at 12.6
32nd in QBR
32nd in PPG at 30.4
32nd in YPG
4.4 YPC to RBs

The Commodes offense:

1st in pass attempts
30th in rushing attempts
Sacked 58 times (32nd)

Rams 4-0 versus sub .500 teams they’ve played.

Let's hope that this weeks game w/Washington breaks things wide open and it is a fun game from coin toss to final gun (or whistle).

Feeling really good about offense after the Ravens game, 'cuz only 2 teams this year, have hung 31 on Baltimore: the Rams and the Browns, who beat them 33-31 (in Baltimore).

One thing I'm looking forward to is continued growth in the scheme for Robinson. This stretch of games is really big for him. He's not a high end threat or anything but he is a guy who can help this team a lot if he adds that third WR threat, because most teams that's a matchup you'll win a lot if you have a guy firing off behind two bigger threats like we have in Kupp & Nacua.

Also hoping to see a lot of Allen in this game. He has the kind of hands where maybe you want to use him a bit more on key downs and once Stafford gets comfortable with a weapon he tends to feed them when he likes the matchup.
