So if you take away his 2 touchdowns and his fumble, do they win the game?
Well, there's also the possibility they find another way to score those touchdowns. Not something we can ever know for sure. I was always fine with him being the RB1 this year. I just question the extension. I think they should have waited till this season was over.

So you think rookies coming into the league at RB,TE,WR are going to be as good at blocking as say guys like Kyren,Higbee & Puka?

If you followed my replys. I simply said sometimes players have bad games and it would be a good idea not to limit yourself to one player. Im in no way saying he could jump in and fill Williams spot but he could spell him or be the guy on 4&1 or goal line pushes

Well, someone has to ask the question. Was it a good idea to extend him? Everyone was well aware of the fumbling problem. It wasn't a one off thing. He's had his share of fumbles. This time it cost a game against a bitter division rival.

If they let him play out the year they could take a close look and see if the body of work is enough to overcome the fumbling problems. If not, they have Blake Corum waiting in the wings to be the RB1. And Jarquez Hunter behind him waiting for his shot.

Now they've got him under contract. Not so easy to move on. Do they stick with him because they're paying him? Or do they give the rock to Corum? Make Kyren the 3rd down back. Its hard to be patient when you have to wonder if one of these fumbles will cost a playoff game.
Unfortunately Corum had not developed into a replacement for Kyren partially because he still isn’t adept in pass protection which is essential when you have an immobile QB or as a pass receiver. Corum came from a run heavy college scheme that doesn’t always translate into the NFL. Last night’s fumble was a forced error because the defender used a peanut punch to jar the ball loose. Williams issue was he was running in traffic without having both hands on the ball. That’s a mental error that should be corrected by coaching. Despite the fumble the Rams offense is better and more dangerous with Williams running the ball than with the limited game Corum brings

He definitely should lose important touches. It definitely was a mistake to extend him.
I think it’s way too early to make that assessment. Knee jerk decisions rarely solve issues sbut can create worse ones. With the offensive line being so unreliable at this point exposing Stafford by taking away an element of pass protection would be an error that would cost more than one game. Rams need to improve and clean up their game on offense but they are still scoring points just not as efficient as they need to be in the red zone. Last night was a very poor showing by the defense.

I mean, Bowers, Warren and many other TE's start their rookie seasons and have impacts. Yes it might be somewhat of a difficult position to learn or be dependable in, but he's a 2nd round pick not a project.
It seems to me like the Rams draft defensive players better then offense. Should have drafted CB early.

Williams fumbles sometimes in crucial spots, but he's the one that has the ball in his hands in the pressure situations.
He is top 5 every year for carries, he has the ball in his hands at a very high rate. He is a multi-talented player that does a lot of things right. He doesn't have the speed to break a lot of long runs, but he is a valuable piece to this team, and his contract didn't break the bank.

im not so sure the corum fumble was all his fault...

mathew tossed it to him with a lot of end over end english...

a smoother flip with less english, has to be easier to catch...

his struggles with blocking and the pass game are unsettling because i think he is a way better RB when he takes the handoff...

my 2 cents...

With KW its not so much the number of fumbles, 1 is too many, but the timing of them. Especially last night, he has to know the whiners are going for the ball, use both arms on that ball inside.

He took his eyes off the ball. The ultimate no no to actually catching the ball.

McVay always does this with rookie HBs. He doesn't trust them to handle the passing game assignments, and he doesn't want to tip the other team to run based on personnel.
He could run play action with Hunter in there if he's concerned Ds will key on Hunter if puts him in.

Then they won't remember Lawrence McCutcheon, who was a steady eddy type of back with not much speed or wiggle. He was a slasher type of back who, according to the stats, had zero fumbles in his career.
He was a reliable back, like KW, but without the untimely fumbles in the biggest moments.
My first Rams jersey Lawrence McCutcheon, my buddies dad taught us how to hold the ball and not fumble, I think I was 9. He would pick me up off my feet but could not get that ball out, he would punch at it like you see in RB drills, never got it out. Maybe I should go visit KW and show him how its done lol.

Except you need a HB who understands the protections, can read the defense well enough to spot blitzers pre- and post-snap, and who is actually good in pass pro or else you risk getting your QB blown up.

I think the next time the Rams draft a back they should look for a pass catching type. Because that's probably the type of back who would get the most involvement in a McVay offense. Rams like the shifty/small backs, but the ones they've brought in are not particularly good at catching the ball. Which has never bothered me, since Stafford throws screens like shit. But if McVay had a guy who could attack seams I am sure he would at some point tap into that ability and the offense would benefit.

Williams does a good job finding creases in this offense but we just plod down the field until someone fucks up. We've been so focused on maybe adding a back to the backfield who can bust a long gainer, but maybe a back who can bust a long gainer or catch a long gainer would be better.

For the record I am not distressed with our backfield. This week just stings extra because it's fuckin SF. McVay will do his shit and get this team back on track, but for now I think it would be valuable to see a bit more of the kid RB. And maybe next year in the draft go get a change of pace type who can threaten in the pass game and not drop passes.

It was NEVER a good idea to extend him. You only extend elite backs, he is not one. Particularly when you have 2 good backs behind him (that solid draft capital was used on) and he is a well known clutch fumbler. Sorry, Belichek would have walked onto the field and executed him last night. Us? We will start him and give him 30 touches in our next game. I'd bench him for the entire next game. NO excuse to not have both hands/arms wrapped around the ball on a goal line run. NONE. I'm just sick of it.
Seriously? I'll admit that fumble had me pissed. That game was over if we scored right there. I firmly believe that Jones would have just folded if we went up a touchdown. I think Kyren has 7 fumbles since the 2023 season and that ranks among the highest active RB's in the NFL. I could be wrong, but I'm not going to look that shit up.

That being said, why in the actual fuck am I reading about Belicheck in a Rams forum. Would I give a damn about that guy even if he was still coaching in the NFL? Hell no. Executing? The guy fumbled the ball, bro. It cost us the game. Execution from a Patriot ex fucking coach doesn't sell that shit to me at all. I've got eyes, but damn man. Belichek?

And why are you apologizing for something that is never going to fucking happen?

Always true and especially with our OL thus far this year. But I think the biggest hurdle with backs translating to the NFL is the give-a-F in terms of sticking your nose in there and taking on NFL backers at a full run. This rook strikes me as the kind of dude who that won't be a problem for, so I expect he won't take too long to get the protections down.

Beyond that it's not that hard to read center-out for your pickup priority or chip the assigned man. Rook of course is gonna fuck up but hopefully if he's willing as a blocker not too much.

I know how to fix D will's fumble problem. Put him one on one with Nate Landman and peanut punch his weak azz for an hour every day.
I would bench him for the Ravens game. If you fumble you get benched and can marinate in your juices on the pine for a week while you work on fumbling drills.
