This is the Rams "Juice Draft".

Every single player, before the sixth round, jumps off the tape.

The IOL can block LBs (second level)... when is the last time we saw that?!?

Probably my favorite pick is the edge from Appalachian State. He's a poor man's Will McDonald.

Seems like Snead has reminded us that he still knows what he's doing.

Only way we could have done better is if we had more top 100 picks, like Detroit, Seattle, and Philly did.

Avila is a slam dunk day one difference maker. He should instantly impact the offense positively. None of us expected OL at the top due to years of abuse by the Rams on draft day, but they sure did make a great call this year by sucking it up and taking the big guy.
drafting Avila gives this draft an A

I didn’t like the scattergun approach at Edge (although I didn’t think any of the trio were bad picks per se) and would’ve liked another player for the secondary selected, but Avila instantly improves our OL and Barrett has the potential to be one of the best backup QBs in the league. Tomlinson is a baller and both Nacua and Allen are going to be reliable receivers.

A solid B+ for me.

I mentioned this same thing on another thread but here's a partial synopsis from Yardbarker:

"Instead of getting help for Matthew Stafford at No. 73, for instance, Los Angeles traded its third-round pick to the New York Giants -- who proceeded to draft Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, the 2022 Biletnikoff Award winner for best college wide receiver -- in exchange for pick Nos. 89 and 128, the latter of which was used on QB Bennett, who was trending in the wrong direction as a likely undrafted free agent in the lead-up to the NFL's big offseason event."

:explode1:
I seriously doubt Bennett would have gone undrafted! That said, Hyatt might make us regret trading down. Why did he drop that far? There was talk of him going in the 1st. Is it because he can’t run the full route tree and is a poor fit in our system. Perhaps we should trust that Snead and McVey know more than us? 2 Super Bowls and 1 title says it all

He's a very fast WR and fast WR's always get used. But that's really all he does there's not much to his game other than speed which is why he dropped. We have a fast though under used WR but we have other needs so Hyatt didn't seem to be a big focus the same for the WR position in general. Just my opinion.

I could go with A+ or C. Because I really have no idea. I knew nothing about these guys before we picked them. Now I'm learning things with them.

From what I gather Avila should be ready to start day one. But banking on a rookie to be ready for that from the start? We'll see. Even first rounders go through the learning curve.

The rest of the pack? A couple may or may not be thrown into the fire early. My guess is Young or Turner. Or both. Evans might see playing time at running back. We gotta expect growing pains.

Grades are anybody's guess at this point. It takes a few years to know how good or bad a draft class is.

I gave it a B-.. but.. what do I know?

What I like is that they very likely got at least two guys who are starters at some point in their rookie year and I mean by merit, not attrition, in Avila and Young.
I like that they got an RB who projects as a legitimate 3 down back with explosive traits. I actually love that. He has some risks, but unless you're drafting an RB high, there will be some. Scheme fit.. you can run the same exact plays for him and Akers.. I like it.
Young is very similar, profile wise, to Ebukam.. but a little bigger and played against better competition. I think he'll be able to contribute as a rookie.
Kobie Turner's best case as a rookie, to me, is a high-end rotational player with a future as a starter.
Hodges Tomlinson could be the #3 CB this year.. or not. Love everything about him except his size. But if he ends up being a solid, solid slot-nickel guy.. that's a good pick value at 6th round.
Punter looks like a hoss... if he's excellent, great.
Davis Allen has potential.. but how often do rookie 5th round TE's make much of an impact?
McClendon is really young and has long arms and huge hands. I think he can get stronger in the NFL and looks to be a decent guard/RT prospect.
Nick Hampton is an interesting athlete.. and so is Daniel Hardy. So, I'm excited for special teams but can't get too excited about an undersized elite athlete edge prospect yet.

The Avila and Evans picks could be huge. Oline stability and RB depth would make Stafford's life so much easier. I'm not as worried about the WRs as some, probably.. I think there are some fun combos to be had with the group they have.. and think Tutu showed enough to be on the field as a deep threat. I like the idea of 11 personnel with him and Bennie Fucking Skow on the field along with Kupp. I also like the idea of Evans and Akers on the field at the same time.. could be fun!

Either way... roster is nowhere near complete. I think there will be several cheap vets added to the defense before all is said and done.. and.. my god.. I hope Rochelle and Kendrick take HUGE steps this offseason.. because, otherwise.. shrimps all around at CB.

(last note.. the UDFA class has a lot of very interesting athletes, from what I've seen. Someone from that group will make an impact as a rookie, imo)

I will give it a solid B. I just don't like Bennett never did and I am stunned he is a Ram even after his public intoxication charge.

That being posted the Punter Ethan Evans from Wingate will be an asset because he can kickoff too and that should aid if the kicker that makes the team is former Wolfpack Christopher Dunn. The two DT's are light, but quick, however, that concerns me in the Run game. They have big Bobby Brown and that should help, but the rest of the DL is not big and again for me that is a concern.

I like what they did along the Offensive Line & Zach Evans can make this class an A because he is a home run threat, ball security is a work on, but with new RB Coach Ron Gould in charge I have confidence the RB's will be ready come September Morn.

You forgot the Punter all that work and you left off the best pick of the draft.
Nonsense. We all know Punters and Kickers are not people. They are like mythical forest creatures, don't look at them or focus on them lest they go on long runs of shit form.

Avila is a slam dunk day one difference maker. He should instantly impact the offense positively. None of us expected OL at the top due to years of abuse by the Rams on draft day, but they sure did make a great call this year by sucking it up and taking the big guy.

Young we'll see. He's an upside pick. I think he is part of that price of moving down in terms of the draft steering them to OL with the first pick and after making the right call you gotta accrue picks somewhere. So then we miss on guys like Hall who I am sure they would have liked. But Young does have good film. I've been watching him more than any of these guys after the pick and think there's a reasonable chance the Rams can get the most from him. But it's still a wait and see deal vice a deal where you know the guy is gonna slay it day one. Probably gonna have an adjustment period before we feel him and there's a gulf between a guy who can give you some sacks next to AD like say Fowler or him growing into a real dawg and solving blindside for years.

Turner is an intriguing pick. Rams have a plan for him on the rush as per Les, with him and AD duoing in the middle. I like DL who are naturally tough to move and this guy has that element to him. But he's not overpowering in that way. Also he's not in AD's class in terms of quickness to counter that. So where his ceiling is no idea, thinking he's at worst a rotational type who helps us year one. At best he's AD's replacement if he up and retires suddenly. Not a day one difference maker, though he has a chance to start most likely at 5T for us, that's his best spot with AD taking up 3T. If he wins that 5T job then maybe we have something.

Bennett is the QB pick we knew was coming. Not the QB we knew was coming but a strong backup option for us that makes McVay feel good if Stafford misses time. I think his ceiling is a backup but we'll see how it goes. Quality addition for the room all around. Backup QB.

Hampton is a dice roll on another twitchy edge, a bit undersized so he's a project. Depth and teams.

McClendon is a project for the OL pipeline. Depth role.

Allen I will say has some intriguing skills for development. Role will be TE depth chart and teams.

Nacua is another large possession option WR. What makes him a bit different from Skow and McClutch is he's a guy who can be plugged into the slot and be productive. He's a chain mover and has a real chance to squeeze someone we like off this roster. I shall call him mini-Kupp.

Tomlinson for where he was taken will have every opportunity to win a slot role. They may even let him play outside the hash if he comes in hot because our options out there are fucking ugly opposite Durant. So for a late round choice this is a really strong pick and represents real potential to start. Cannot complain about that.

Mathis is my kind of Edge. I like 'em rangy and menacing with a little pop to them. But he's another project to load that room, raw gristle for the pressure mill. Depth and teams.

Evans is a Snead boom/bust pick. I fucking hate that it's at RB and that shit triggers me badly. But maybe we finally get on the boom side of the ledger at RB as we are overdue. Nice talent level. Role should be depth but there is room for him to be needed as a rook so hope he's locked in.

Taylor is a box safety with some upside. Depth role and teams if he wants to make the roster. Scott path hopefully, if we hit on him.

Johnson is my favorite day three pick. Interior rotation addition for the DL, boy has some pop to him, physicality that I prefer. Will be in the mix if he comes into camp hot for the 5T role potentially. But either way good depth pickup for the DL roster.

Going into this draft we knew it was a reload deal where Les would move down and add pick volume. They did that and missed out on some guys I would have loved to have. Whether those picks we added move the bar we'll see.

Strengths of the class are they restocked the defensive front, which was no small feat, and added a critical need at OG to ensure our old QB doesn't get killed. I think to some extent the draft steered them to take OL early, but I'll take it lol.

Weaknesses of the draft is that our secondary is a shambles. We have a hole at boundary corner. Our safeties are iffy at best. Neither of those things were likely affected for this year by this draft haul. Also RB, which has been a problem every year for McVay since we lost Gurley, they went with a risky pick. And lastly will add that we lost two 1T and I am not sure we have a good NT plan in that room. Who's our NT? Brown? We need some oversized beef I think, and if not we're gonna get run off the field vs divisional opponents.

Now we can play with each others dicks here and act like every pick is gonna hit but we have been doing this long enough to know that rarely happens. So this is a good draft I think. Solid in many ways that we needed it to be. But it's not that draft that gives us hope of a quick reboot.

Kneejerk Grade: B+
I think the improvement at edge definitely impacts the current safeties and CB group. No corner or safety can overcome an anemic pass rush. Rams needed an edge presence and they took multiple shots at the position. I think the selection of Turner allows AD to get a blow on the sidelines without drastically affecting the defense. AD can be used more effectively and that could extend his career. Rams will have some key rotational pieces that will allow them to attack with fresh players. Eagles blueprint on pass rushers was successful because they had waves of them. Corners and safeties will benefit from the pressure.

Had a professor in college that led off the class with his grading system. A is for God, B is for me, C is for the best of you and D is for the rest of you.
Did you drop it because C being the best you can get would have pissed me off

For better or worse, McVay seems content to go into the year with Kupp, Jefferson, Skowronek, and Tutu as our top WRs. Hyatt is talented, but we already have a speedster in Atwell. Glad we were able to grab Kobie Turner. And Stetson seems fine as a backup QB. We'll see.

I do think one or two recovers are available not to mention someone will shake lose at some point.

It was Calculus, I took the C and called it a Semester. In retrospect one of the best professors I ever had.

Ditto, would rather have had Israel Abanikanda and Bagent (QB in the 7th) than Bennett. I see a less talented, entitled version of Johnny Manziel. Damn, that was just plain mean, oh well.
I am not sure where the perception of entitled comes from. I like how he got to where he is. He was only a 2-star rated player coming out of high school and only had 1 offer from Middle Tennessee St. He walked on at Georgia but transferred to Jones College when Justin Fields committed to Georgia in 2018. He played 1 season there and then went back to Georgia to a back0ip behind JAmie Newman and D'wan Mathis. In 2020, Bennett took over the starting QB position from Mathis (Newman opted out). Later in the season, JT Daniels transferred in and was given the starting job for 2021. At the start of the 2021 season, Daniels went down with an injury and Bennett took over and the team went 12-0
I think the kid earned everything he has accomplished, ...was never handed a starting job. I also see improvement from 2021 to 2022
