I like that they're not opening up any new needs in FA.

Kurl had a very solid year an continuity is a big deal. If they can add one more corner who is more consistent and physical in coverage as well as being an excellent tackler, they'll be in incredible shape on the back end. Durant made splash plays, but I want someone more consistent and physical. Period.

Say you add one more corner who is league-average to the group they have now? They'll be in great shape. I don't mind Forbes as a third corner.. keeping him away from running downs as much as possible.

This takes Caleb Downs out of our Draft consideration.
Probably correct though I wouldn't fully rule it out if safety is a clear BPA at any spot we're at.

For 13 depending on the medical side Downs may end up being there, though if he falls that far he may be falling quite a bit further due to medicals. Also I will say again I think he's stronger as a box dude which is not what I would prioritize at the position and I also don't think you need to address that up high. If the Rams project him deep middle then I'd imagine he's considered a very nice fit, though then again most of their safety choices seem to be SS types.

So I could be off on what I think they need. But for my money Thieneman offers more of the deep ballhawk side this defense has lacked over the top.

I wasn't expecting to resign Curl, it doesn't look like a deal that breaks the bank which is great.

I expect our defensive philosophy will look vastly different next year than we've seen in years past. Which is why some of us are scratching our heads at signing a guy who primarily played slot, who isn't' great on the outside when we have Lake and Wallace who can play the slot rather well. We definitely don't need 3 Slot CBs.
I'm expecting that we're not done in FA and once we get through the draft, the pieces will fall into place and these signings will make more sense. I expect us to play a lot more man 2 man next year.

Flexibility and multiple looks.. It's really not duplicating what other players on the roster do when it comes to the McDuffie/Lake thing.

I expect more "man" coverage.. but not a ton of it. The biggest thing, imo, about keeping Curl and Lake and adding an experienced, smart corner like McDuffie is that they'll REALLY be able to mix their coverages. It's going to be fun.

Nice solid piece staying. If we can get some better coverage on the outside I think we'll start seeing some of these playmakers on the backend like Curl, Kitchens having huge seasons.

Yes, I expect a tad more man too but also, I think - and I'm no expert on coverages - we may not have played as much man-match last year as we did in the past (mix of zone and man within the call) since I don't think our guys could do it quite well.

I suspect we played more straight up zone which is not ideally how you want to play a Fangio tree defense. You want man-match coverages.

Good signing. We can now sit at 13 and take the best available on our board, or trade down some. The Curl signing doesn't mean we won't draft Downs if he's sitting there when we pick though. We use 3 and 4 Safeties on the field at times.

Draft another Safety? huh?

I'm confused on who you're referring to. Who did we sign that primarily plays slot? Curl?

I honestly would not have signed higbee or Curl but it’s not the end of the world either.

Our holes are very transparent if you watch film from last year.

CB and a linebacker to cover the middle of the field. We need to get Landman off the field in passing downs.
