Just how good is Johnny Hekker?

The Rams actually have 2 players that are obviously the best in the league at their respective positions.

Aaron Donald and Johnny Hekker.

That's really saying something.

Been a while since one could say such a thing, huh? Maybe the GSOT days?

A good HC can build on that, and I consider McVay a good HC already.

You are correct as usual den, this video will never be shown in Canton unless Landetta gets roasted by the hall in lieu of being inducted.

Oh, I caught it. I still think this concert is a Top 3 of all time, maybe even the best, the others being Bill Cosby's Himself and George Carlin's one with the words you can't say on TV routine.

Can't stand Cosby as a person, so it's hard to judge his past work in this new light, but... it is what it is, I guess, others will have different opinions.

Honorable mention to Bill Hicks who I still think was the greatest standup of all time

Brandt's got to be senile if he puts Bryan fucking Anger over Hekker. I'd easily say that Hekker, if he continues on his path, will be the GOAT when it comes to punters.

To think Johnny Hekker went undrafted. Smart cap move by The Rams .
Greg the Leg & getting Hekker. Great foundation, but Fisher just couldn't coach.

Last year Johnny was freaking great !!
I only seeing him get better as well. Bones is solid & just helps keep the special teams in tact.
 
Evaluating punters they also omit a lot of critical data, looking at Gil's list above. How many times a punter can pin opponents inside their red zone is more important than just about anything else, but it's not something they trot out there as a stat wrt the position when it's discussed. Of course Hekk is right there at the top with the distance, but there's a lot more to the dude than that.

And as this league progresses I think being able to execute fakes, i.e. having some rudimentary passing ability, will become more and more important. That's also of course an area where Hekk looks like a futures positional guy.

Definitely gonna be the GOAT at some point. No doubt about it. I actually ordered his jersey, first time ever for a punter man, feel kinda dirty too might need counseling.

What's interesting as well is they also have Quinn, who has become a forgotten man, but hey maybe he'll have a healthy season this year.

Also I think Gurley has "best in the league" type talent and maybe it'll show if he gets some blocking up front and teams can't camp out with 8/9 in the box.

Agreed on both counts. The Mighty Quinn will raping NFL backfields again. It's scary to think what the Gurley Express! can do if he has a top notch run blocking OL in front, and that's exactly what Aaron Kromer is trying to build here.
 
Much like a great QB....Hekker is an elite talent that has also been surrounded by a strong supporting cast and quality coaching.
The Rams' ST's have been top shelf for the last several years, and not just because of Hekker.

Fisher arrived and stressed defense and special teams. He hired quality coaches and brought in talent. You have to give credit where credit is due.
 
Someone would have to get into all the numbers to really make a accurate evaluation. Hekker would move up to near or at the top. Considering he has been punting 87 punts a year on a bad team his numbers are crazy and getting better. He has changed field position so much it's hard to believe. Bryan Anger and Lechler have good YPPA but, not nearly as good of net average per punt.
