I looked at a list and the top paid WR for each of the last 8 years has been 13-14% of the overall cap. While the WR cap hit has gone up it's gone up equally with the overall cap. Nothing changes even though that number for the WR goes up.
If the Rams decided they didn't want to sign Puka and traded him instead, I would understand that. I am not saying I would like it... but I would understand it.
I know I risk being tarred and feathered here for even bringing this up, but there is chatter that management is less than happy with some of his off the field decisions. While his on the field productivity is off the charts, to give a non-QB that much money and % of the cap is dangerous. Especially a guy whose playing style leads to more injury risk. It just seems like an extension based on productivity is a decision that could have already been made. Seattle didn't have to extend JSN now, as he was a first rounder. But look who they had to let leave as free agents to accommodate the new deal. It looks like a similar extension for Puka means good bye to Avila or Dotson and probably BY. I'm not sayin' - I'm just sayin'.
I'm not worried at all about anything off the field, Puka's a good kid who can be a bit silly but his passion for football is second to none. He's the engine for this offense who is only getting better and I don't think we can afford to let him go, even for multiple 1sts. If that's what you're sayin'.

Sorry man but I really hate this kind of statement. It’s Foolio-esque. Where is this chatter? It sounds like made up BS pulled out of someone’s ass to back up a supposition. I highly doubt anyone from the Rams is “chattering” about any of this in regards to Puca’s contract.

This site is as close to social media I get. Colin Cowherd has made multiple references, and he's close to Snead. Albert Breer said on a podcast earlier this month that the Rams "have options, as things weren't perfect" last year. The rumored AJ Brown trade may have been sending a message. I'm not saying trade him (although I am now curious what he'd bring), but I am saying that he plays violently (which may be his superpower) and has publicly stated he doesn't want to play beyond his 20s, so therefore to automatically bestow upon him such a large pct of the cap may not be prudent. And I say all this as a huge fan of his. There's no fire that can be seen, but some people with more contacts/connections than ANYONE on this site can smell a little smoke.
