Jalen Ramsey traded to Pittsburgh

When Brandon Staley coached him with the Rams he would use Ramsey all over the D... sometimes like a hybrid LB even. Back then, Ramsey still seemed to relish the physical tackling he was always known for. It really took advantage of some of his rare skill-sets at times.

However...

I have watched his playing style change a lot since we shipped him to South Beach. He doesn't relish the physical part of the game nowadays like he used to. Hell, I watched him straight up avoid getting even involved in a tackle last year. Something he would have NEVER done in the past. This wasn't just an older player saving his body either... it was straight up avoidance of getting physical at all. It surprised me big time because I've been watching Ramsey play since he was a Nole and I had never seen him play anything like that before. The way it looks to me is... if the squealers expect him to lay some wood like he's always been known for, they're likely to be very disappointed and may not have him on the field for very many games.

But hey, maybe he was just playing like Marcus Peters and running from contact because he wanted out of that clown show down there. Sounds like he was showing up late for practices and undermining the coaches too. So who really knows. It was just so shocking for me to see him completely avoid contact like I watched him do countless times last season.

Interesting. He did great in the Stat role for the Rams. I didn’t know he started avoiding contact. Maybe his body is feeling it afterwards more. I used to love watching him hit Golden Taint.

McDaniel is a strong OC but a weak head coach. So if those rumors are true the Dolphins additionally have been making excuses for Ramsey and enabling his worst behaviors.

They're a shitty org.

Well they think they have one now and they paid him like one. But let's say he's not that star. Isn't that Shanahan & Lynches fault? They signed Brian Hoyer in March of 2017, then drafted CJ Beathard #104 in the draft. When they saw that wasn't going to work, they traded with the Patriots for who they thought would be that star, Jimmy G. That's 3 QB moves in year 1. When none of those 3 panned out they traded up (a lot) to draft Trey Lance. That didn't work out. Finally got lucky with Mr. Irrelevant. If he works out, it gets them off the hook. If he doesn't?

I think they’d be crazy to bail on him. Last year with CMC injured, Aiyuk injured, Trent injured, how do they win? Even then they lost a lot of one score games. I hate them as much as the next Rams fan but if the Niners canned Shanahan, he’d be the head coach of another team as soon as the offseason started.

I know that if I was the owner of the Niners, there is no way I’m firing either of them, even if they don’t make the playoffs the next two years. Who would I hire that is better? If I was inclined to part with anyone over the other, it would be Lynch first.

I look at it more as Levels ...

There are Levels to a football team. The worst is when a team Just Sucks year-after-year for 5-10 seasons. When, as a fan, you just want your team to play some meaningful games around Thanksgiving but, by then, you are already thinking about the Draft. The Rams from 1990-1998, or the Linehan/Spagnuolo years.

Then there's Just Not That Good.
Not the worst ... might be teased but your team is not going to the playoffs ... like the Fisher Years.

Above that is a Level where the team is legit-good, strong playoff contender but Ain't Getting No Lombardi. Fans think ... "Hey, gotta be in to win it!" and "You never know ... there's always a chance". However, there really Ain't No Chance. The 1980s Rams were that type of team. Playoffs almost every non-strike-year but there were no Lombardi's left-on-the-table that decade.

The 2nd-worst-Level is actually the second-highest-level.
The team is absolutely good enough to win it all but ... It's Always Something ...

This is really painful because, for all the wins, playoff appearances and close games (wins and losses), ultimately, it's very disappointing There are TWO sub-Levels here. The Brutal and The Fucking Brutal.

Unfortunately, the 1970s Rams are a great example of this Level. I lived through it, and the 1974 and 1976 NFC Championship Games remain the two worst Rams' losses (non-Super-Bowl) of my lifetime because the Rams were good enough to win ... and Should Have Won ... those two Games.

The Ravens and Bills over the past 5-6 years are also good examples of the first sub-level ... very good team ... plenty good-enough ... so very close ... Not even a Super Bowl appearance ... Brutal!

The Evil-49ers are at that second-sub-level. Excellent team ... right there ... their fans can almost touch the Lombardi Trophy ... two Super Bowls ... Double-Digit 4th quarter lead in one ... two 4th quarter leads and a lead-in-OT in the other ... a Double-Digit fourth-quarter-lead in an NFC Championship to a hated-rival ... another Conference Championship Game when both Quarterback are injured ... LOST ALL FOUR GAMES!

Ecstasy for Us!!! Abject Misery for Niners fans. Just Fucking Brutal!!
Seriously, current 49er fans could reasonably believe their team should have four Lombardi's since 2019.

The next-Level is where the Rams have been under McVay ... Championship Caliber, with One Tucked-Away.
Same type of team as the previous-Level but with, at least, one Lombardi. Of course fans want more but there's the comfort ... and Cherished Memory ... of the one we got.

That's why the close wins over Tampa and San Francisco, culminating with the win over Cincinnati in SoFi represent my all-time favorite month being a Rams' fan.

The Highest-Level is not even a REAL Level ... it's a DREAM that can only be described as Heaven-On-Earth.
It's the same quality of team as the prior 2 Levels but with multiple-Lombardi Trophies ... the '60's Packers ... '70's Steelers (maybe/probably also the Cowboys) ... '80's Niners ... '90s Cowboys ... current Chiefs.

I took the long-way-around to share my thoughts but what I am really saying is simply ...

AD's injury that made him ineffective vs Green Bay, Kupp missing half the 2018 season and Superbowl. The OL in 2019 and 2022, as well as Kupp, Stafford and AD that season. Having said all that, the Rams under McVay have not had two bad years in a row. We had injuries in 2021.....lost our starting RB before preseason........our LT for 2 games.......one of our top receivers for half the season.....and his replacement halfway through the SB. At some point, even the injuries have to cease being the biggest excuse.
