The line was good this game. They are not always good. So I am sure we all agree there is plenty of room for improvement.
Consistency is the true test. If against the Ravens they have a similar result, then we can maybe start to upgrade our opinions.

The Browns beat the Niners a few weeks ago. They shut down their passing and running.

Maybe the Rams are a bit better than we realize.
Sometimes it is just we match up better with their personnel or their scheme or today was just a bad day for them. Or maybe the rams are better than we realize.

IMO, the Oline has been good all year except for when McVay abandons the run and goes with too many empty backfield sets.
And except when the team used their backup guard at LT after an injury vs. the Bengals.
God that game pissed me off. I wanted to hang McVay. I still lament it, but I am mostly over it.:)

The starters on the OL are fine as long as McVay doesn't hang them out to dry.

That said, it really looks like McVay has dusted off his 2018 playbook where running the ball was the jumpstart for the passing game. With sets and motion that all look the same only the play changes. Sometimes run sometimes pass. That is a huge help for the OL because they have the advantage over the front 7.

The O-Line is good but not great...they're getting there though...all it takes is time and those guys are coming around. I think the difference is McVay has adjusted his play calling and not asking them to protect with those deep routes, while Stafford's movement in the pocket has been much better since the thumb injury.

This is gonna be paramount against the Ravens. Get the ball out quick...keep a good run/pass balance...and spread the ball around.

I, for one, think McVay is wasting Tutu in the short game. He needs to get him the ball short and let him run after the catch. You don't need the deep routes all the time.
Kupp, Puka, and Tutu can all run after the catch...USE THEM IN THE SHORT GAME.

Tutu cant take the pounding in the short game…not worth the risk imo. He’s too valuable as a field stretcher. Kupp and Nacua and now Robinson can do the short to intermediate stuff

PFF grades. Oline pass blocking overall was real good. Our guards got dinged in run blocking.

Having rewatched the game I would attribute the offensive success to the play calling. Lots of quick passes, moving the pocket and RB chipping. Things Mcvay should have been doing in previous weeks.

Also the WR’s were excellent in run blocking. Kupp, Puka and Skow. This is why I like Tutu getting less snaps and only used as a 4th WR deep threat. He shouldn’t be blocking. It compromises our run game.

Also Kyren Williams stats are crazy.

“Williams was incredibly elusive in the open field, forcing seven missed tackles. Of his 88 yards rushing, 69 came after contact, too.”

Why does Avila keep getting low run blocking grades?

If those "grades" are PFF I wouldn't put much stock in them. When people who know what they are looking at breakdown Avila's play they grade him high....much higher than PFF who absolutely don't know what they are looking at.

I definitely was one who criticized the line. Wanting them to draft a left tackle and sign vet free agents along the line. But they are coming together nicely. That is what happens when guys can play together all year. No injuries like last year.

Hopefully this teaches management a lesson. Injuries will happen at some point. Be better prepared for them. Have better quality depth when it does happen. We see what the offense can do when the line plays well enough.

If they play well against the Ravens we can crown them as a good line, if not we need more talent added to tackle and center.

Good? Yes, they are good.

Great? Not yet.

Considerably better than last year? Absolutely.

Good enough? Ask me in five weeks. :sunglasses:

Tutu is smart enough to get the yards and get down to avoid contact. He's good and avoiding contact.

OL looking good including Noteboom at RT. I still think Noteboom replaces Havenstein next year. Joe is playing against a quality DL and playing well.

Here we go McVay not running the ball. Point shaving fake false start ignoring the offside.

Yes the OL can be good but the biggest issue is inconsistency and that's unacceptable.

The O line is pretty good.

I’m all for drafting a tackle high.. but I’m impressed by this unit.

They gave up 2 sacks and averaged 4.3 on the ground, on the road, against the #1 scoring defense in the league.
