Is Cousins one of those players that was cut and will still be paid by the Falcons? Because if we could get him for the minimum, maybe it'll be worth it?
No
He got paid his 10 mill roster bonus but that's it. His 2026 salary wasnt guaranteed.
No chance he'll sign for vet minimum

I saw where we would likely wait until after the draft to sign someone, but, that seems a bit sketchy unless they have a secret handshake with Jimmy G. I guess leaving the back up open might scare other teams into trading in front of us for Simpson

That could be a smart strategy to get some more wanted players to fall.

Easy call - it’s not just the strategy.

Been saying it all a long, but of course it’s not written in stone.
Mcvay would have liked Cousins at a certain price & if Jimmy G gets a better offer than what The Rams are going to give him ? He’s gone !!

Truth be told though he maybe The Rams QB of the Future??? At least a Life Time backup ? It’s a LIVE thing on what happens ???

Jimmy G will be a Ram & they’”ll wait until contracts are settled. He’ll scape the Scape of what’s left with The Salary Cap.
Of course The Rams want to save $$$ for Trade dead line.Plus extensions. The Salary Cap isn’t easy.

I can't even believe my eyes that there's people on here that think Cousins signing with the Raiders and that the Rams may be interested in Simpson as a result has anything to do with the upcoming Draft. Do people actually think that if the Rams lost out on Cousins the pivot is Simpson??? And other teams are actually going to think because of the Cousins signing the Rams want Simpson. People really need to stop being so Ram-centric at tines, 31 other teams in the league with their own issues.

I would say the second part of your response is very strategic.
As for the first part, maybe both the Rams and g-string are waiting to see how the market unfolds before making a commitment.

Cousins was never coming to the Rams, anyone who thought otherwise just wasnt paying attention

But even if he WAS, Rams missed out on Cousins so now they'll draft Simpson??! And other teams will now LeapFrog them to get at Simpson? LOL, some folks have such vivid imaginations. Not you, Dieter.

Not sure where your reading that. Don't see anyone suggesting the our actual pivot is Simpson.

Other teams certainly have an idea that we might want Simpson regardless of anything to do with Cousins, but having no back up QB on the roster at all during the draft may increase their thinking. Is that really so hard to believe? There is like 3 teams that have potential to take Simpson, we are surely 1 of them.

Yes, the Rams are and have been a threat to take Simpson. And yes Cousins signing elsewhere has nothing to do with it.

I Get It ... I really do.

I have been around a long time, and I have seen a lot. I mean, I Get It.

Cousins will get $20M in 2026. Even though the Falcons will pay some of it, the Raiders will pay Cousins more than the Rams likely could (would) have paid.

So, I Get It.

Money is super important to almost every one. The most important thing (by far) to most people. I Get It.

The top-three career earners among NFL players are Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford.
All Hall of Fame, Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. Fourth on the all-time-$-list is Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has one career playoff victory. I don't expect him to have his 2nd in 2026.

My guess is that Vegas does not want to rush Mendoza (that's smart) but does want him to start as soon as they feel his is ready. My guess is that Mendoza will see significant playing time in 2026.

I had speculated that Cousins (38 before the start of the season) might find the Rams attractive.

High profile team and city, with an expectation to compete for a Super Bowl ... backing-up a quarterback even older than him ... playing for a head coach that was on Washington's staff when Cousins was a rookie and was his offensive coordinator when he first became a starting-QB.

Thought the Rams made sense.

However, a few extra Million-$ (for someone that has already made Hundreds of Millions) was critical.

I Get It.

Guess ... all I am trying to say ... is ... I Don't Get It!

No one's exactly beating down his door. His only opportunities are going to be on shit teams probably so if his choice is a 3-14 team that's going to bench him anyway or be the backup for a Super Bowl favorite with the coach who made you into what you were while making millions I'd say the choice would be easy. If we're interested at least.
Apparently he chose option 1 anyway.

Your basically stating what I said. Although I personally think some teams may believe it is more likely (even in the slightest amount) that we lean taking Simpson as we have no back up QB currently. You can and will have your own opinion on that, I also have one.

We shall see, but I bet Jimmy G doesn't sign until after the draft.
