Is Noteboom the guy?

Staying healthy is the key, if healthy Boom is an All Pro, but again, he's struggled with health. Good Example was the playoffs as Big Whit was out against Tampa, Boom filled in admirably and had an outstanding game against JPP.

However, Boom tore his pec and not only missed the NFC Championship Game, but the Super Bowl too.

Well you can't say Noteboom doesn't give a 100% when he's in there.

He played so hard that he injured himself.

I went into TC worried about the OL. I'm not anymore. My only worry is Shelton. He's the smallest and lightest of the whole group and I worry how well he can hold up vs the bigger DL he will be facing. There are guys who can fill in at G. Anchrum has been solid, so has Brewer and Kolone. All those guy have 20-30lbs.. on Shelton. I think they will keep 10.

I'm guessing backups are A Jackson, Anchrum, Acuri, Kolone and Brewer.

The real tests are coming with preseason. Chargers will be a real test the 13th.

Management seems to think he'll be fine. They could have gone and signed somebody else from the outside. So I guess I expect him to excel. He doesn't have to be Whitworth....just the best version of Joe Noteboom.

Agree on Shelton and it's why he won't be the guy. It'll be Bruss. They just have to get him to where he won't be a liability on the protection slides.

Andrew Whitworth has handed over the reins at left tackle after retiring from the NFL this offseason, stepping away from the game after 16 incredible seasons. In his place, the Los Angeles Rams will start Joe Noteboom – a former third-round pick out of TCU.

Whitworth has always been complimentary of Noteboom and seen great potential in the young tackle, but now that Noteboom is taking over as a full-time starter, Whitworth has even higher expectations for him.

In a recent interview with Rams Wire on behalf of Pepsi, Whitworth opened up about Noteboom’s potential and what he’s seen from Joe over the years. One thing that stands out to Whitworth is Noteboom’s anchor as a blocker.

His ability to set and not get knocked back reminds Whitworth of former six-time All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas.

“For Joe, it’s the ability – he has a really special anchor. I look at Joe Thomas, he was a tremendous setter at left tackle. Had a really fluid set. Joseph sets really fluid and has a really special anchor,” Whitworth said. “Joe Thomas was a guy that had such a smooth set, but what really made him special was how strong the anchor he had. Not always being the biggest tackle out there, he could set back as far and as fast as he wanted and was actually able to anchor on people in a really special way. That’s one of the things for linemen, especially tackles, as far as you have to move and as athletic as these guys are, you gotta be able to anchor and not get knocked back in a split-second. Sometimes when they choose to attack, Noteboom has a really special anchor and can sit people down. To me, if you can do that, the rest of the stuff is just a matter of experience.”

Noteboom has made starts at left tackle before, but never for an entire season. And since struggling at left guard in 2019, a season that ended prematurely due to injury, Noteboom has focused primarily on playing tackle – unquestionably his best position.

Whitworth expects him to play well in his first year as a starting left tackle, seeing no reason he can’t excel as a pass blocker.

“… He’s gonna be a great pass protector and play well from the jump, I would imagine,” Whitworth continued. “He’s always played well in moments he’s gotten to go in there and I don’t see him in an 18-game season playing any different. I think he’ll be very consistent and play well, so as a young player, it really stuck out to see him be completely out of position a little bit and still be able to anchor guys down, which is a trait that any left tackle would love to have.”

Since retiring, Whitworth has partnered with Pepsi to give away a tiny home built for NFL game days, allowing one fan to stay in the “18 Week Pack” for 18 weeks this season, complete with two TVs, a fridge, a murphy bed and a loft.

With Van out, this is the perfect game to play a lot of 12 personnel, especially in the first quarter. This will give McVay a chance to see how the Bills are going to play Von. With 2 TEs at it allows the Rams to play a zone run scheme in either direction. With play action Stafford will still have at least 3 receivers.

The key in this game will be to get the run game established. That will really expose any weaknesses they have in the secondary. Once they know how the Bills are going to play their defense the Rams can go to an 11 personnel set. Opening with a 12 personnel set will allow them to chip Von and ease Boom into the season.

I have been high on Noteboom since he was drafted. This guy can be another Armstead type of LT or even better. They got a real steal in Noteboom in the 3rd round just like Armstead was taken in the third round. Noteboom has first-round talent and in the long run, the Rams have a franchise level player in him. He's been mentored by a future HOF LT in Whitworth for years. I trust his evaluation of Boom more than most others.

My problem is with Edwards. He sucks picking up stunts and Von knows it. Miller knows the weakness on the OL is at LG not LT.

I'm sure we remember Saffold and the injuries he had to endure. Boom has had no where near the injuries Saffold had...and he's just as versatile. In fact...I hope he's a mainstay!

The Ram's FO trusts in Noteboom's development (acquired heavy hands) and work ethic (groomed by Whit). He just needs to settle in and play within himself and he'll be fine.

Noteboom is a quality LT. But I don't think he will be able to replace what Whitworth brought. Few can. But it is still a concern. Our running game already was struggling, and now we replaced arguably our best run-blocking offensive lineman in Big Whit with an injury prone LT that has run blocking as his weakness.

Look for the Rams to really air it out this season, IMO. Especially with Robinson as WR2 now. It seems our team is built to pass, from a gun slinger at QB, the concentration of draft and free agent capital at the WR position, an offensive line that excels mostly in pass protection, RBs that all can serve as pass catching weapons, a head coach that favours passing the football, etc.

I don't think being pass heavy is a problem at all, per se, especially in today's NFL. But it does mean if Stafford's elbow proves to be an issue, we could be in some trouble.

Notebroom's pass protection really is excellent based on what we have seen so far. I am cautiously optimistic he can neutralize Von Miller, who before joining the Rams, was widely regarded as a very good but no longer a game-breaking player that was beginning his age-related decline. I do suspect some regression in Von's game now that AD99 is not playing alongside him.
