Roger Carter shows good skill.I’m not a J. Harris fan. I said he doesn’t look good running routes with pass. In OTA’s there no pads.

Jared Pinckney just got promoted & Carter is still a practice squad guy.Higbee is questionable & imo The Rams will roll with a few more 12 set formations helping protect Mayfield & keep the running game going.

—I never said I liked the Jacob Harris pick. The Rams already have Brycen Hopkins who is stronger & has better hands than Harris.Johnny Mundt use to play a lot for The Rams. Blanton got cut to start the season.
—My point about Harris is he is a TE & better suited to play TE than Ben Sko.
—I also think Bobby Trees wanted to move on from The Rams. I don’t know exactly why he got traded, but his dad died right before The Rams won The Superbowl last year. Robert Woods & Big Whit changed the Culture of The Rams locker room with Sean Mcvay. If you asked Coooer Kupp what Bobby Trees meant to him,he couldn’t think him enough for the friendship & bond they had.
Brycen Hopkins has always confused me??? I never got it.I can tell you his head isn’t always dialed in right. He is a TOUGH SOB & loves contact after the catch & wants to beat the DB as well.In practice his head is not always there. His relationship with Tyler Higbee has grown & Mcvays trust in him as well.
Harris has always been a twinner & a project. IMO the pick was because The Rams wanted a bigger WR in the red zone. In comes A’ Robinson. Plus IMO Harris will always have knee issues & he does not have the right Gate to be a NFL player.
—The hype was his rookie year & he had never been in full pads. That is different than those 7 on 7 drills.

Oh, my mistake. I erroneously inferred your position on Harris. Apologies.

As for Woods being traded, I had not heard that’s what he wanted, but if so, the Rams did the right thing and honored his request; however, if he did not ask for a trade… I would say it was a HUGE
mistake. I was always skeptical of swapping him out for Robinson.

Then again, this season has been such a mess, even the great (but VASTLY underrated) Robert Woods probably could not have saved it.

When it comes to the TE position in general, like it or not, Higbee is still the best option the Rams have on the roster—and it’s not even close. Hopkins is showing a little bit, and he’s gonna get these last 2 games to show more. Harris still hasn’t been able to get on the field and that should tell us something.

Other than being a few years younger, how is Gesicki any better than Higbee?
It’s a reasonable question, given that their stats are comparable. Although Mike Gesciki has not played with top-tier offensive talent for most of his career.

I’m jumping in with my opinion because you replied to a Merlin post, and his post was responding to mine where I brought up Gesicki. As I posted, based on what I have seen this season, I think Higbee's best football may be behind him, although he was terrific against Denver. His cap number is fairly high but there's a good amount of cap savings and minimal Dead-$ if he's released with a post-June designation.

That would raise a need at TE. Gesicki is an interesting player. Different type of TE than Higbee, in my opinion. Cross between a really big WR and athletic pass-catching TE. In fact, he wanted to be classified as a WR in last year's free agency (higher franchise tag number) but got the TE-designation and was tagged.

Surprisingly, Mike McDaniel has not used him as much as many expected, given that he came from the 49ers which use George Kittle so effectively. Miami may just let Gesicki go in free agency; and his downfield skill set (he has also been very effective in the slot) would seem to me to be an excellent compliment to what the Rams have and what McVay likes to do. Now a run-blocking-TE would probably be needed because Gesicki strength is not int he running game.

Just an opinion. Lots of posters want the Rams to address O-Line and/or Edge in Free Agency but I don't see any high-end, affordable, realistic options.

The reason McDaniel doesn't use him well is because Kittle is a balanced TE. He's a guy who can line up on the edge and win in the blocking game so in that first critical second after the snap defenders often forget about him. It's that element you get with the balanced TEs like Gronk where fans are screaming "how in the F is Gronk so open???" And Shanny takes full advantage, he can have delayed release and shit where the block is sold in that first second.

Gesicki is from that Tony Gonzalez tree of TE. But when you can't line up and get lost due to your blocking that means you're basically a pre-snap matchup read. QB likes it maybe he goes your way. From there maybe you get open. If not then you're out of the play.

This is why TEs who can block or beat a defender in the pattern are prized so highly. And this is what we need. Because Higs is an inconsistent form of that TE type. He can win on the edge sometimes. He can threaten in the pattern sometimes.

Well Harris got cut - Hopkins has always remained on the roster 53. So yes it tells me he isn’t in The Rams future. He still is a player they would want to develop, but then again how long do you wait. He has been a special teams player & that how he has played & gotten hurt.

Robert Woods - he was upset last season he wasn’t getting the ball.He is not that kind of a player, but then again The Rams always try to do what’s best for the player.

Of course Higbee just broke ALL The Rams TE records. He has a banged up elbow, but will play. The price of his health will be the concern with nothing to play for than pride.
—Can I get a holler from that cheer leader guy!!!

Solid post reply - thanks & hope your New Year is a good one.

Nice - Mcvay gave him a veterans off day& they had Monday & Tuesday off. I think the game plan today will be a lot if the same against Denver.
Higbee should have a TD celebration today
