It's about respect, period. No politics. No religion. Just a simple rest in peace and condolences to the family, even if you don't like the person. Or, if you know you can't do that, avoid the thread like I did.

Just starting a thread on it is inserting one’s politics.

It’s the simplest of rules. No politics. It’s not as if we post a RIP thread for everybody famous that dies. We’d have two or three every day if that was the case.

One reason I liked this forum was the no politics rule. It could all have been avoided by deleting the post.

So if Whoopie, or Sylvester Stallone, or Ashley Judd, or Caitlyn Jenner, etc… died, we couldn’t start a RIP thread? Nonsense!

RIP threads are just that - or at least should be. Don’t like the person? So what! Pass it by. I guarantee you it won’t hurt you.

I personally am not going to prevent someone from paying their respects by posting such a thread. I will watch to attempt to keep it from becoming a political discussion. I will no doubt offer my condolences NO MATTER WHO IT IS. What I won’t do is bitch about a simple RIP thread unless people turn it political.

But FFS! It is almost always someone on the left or right of something like this making it a problem.

I urge all sides of the political spectrum to not jump political at the mere mention of someone you disagree with.

We’ve had silly little memes trigger some people. It’s fucking stupid.

If you see something you think might turn political or religious, point it out to a moderator. There are several of us. If one of us deems it so, we will stop it. Otherwise, just move on.
