Shula would be stupid to leave the Rams while McSnead is in place, unless of course he values money and power over winning.

Well, I do agree with you that he should not leave yet.

But if you look at it, realistically, would you stay at your company just because it’s successful? And turn down a massive promotion, pay raise with full authority over that company?

If a coordinator aspires to be a HC, they need to strike when the iron is hot. Never know when the next opportunity will come along.
Houston was a bad gig, but Ryans made it work out, Carolina was a disaster and Canales turned things around heck even Buffalo was a shit show until McDermott showed up

Same for the Rams until McVay came along.

shula's going nowhere...

he hasn't put himself worthy of meaningful consideration...

when he does, then i'll worry...

mcvay has his stamp all over the defense ...

go rams

That's what many stated about Raheem.... I clearly remembered many posting some pretty distasteful things about Morris while he was with the Rams.

If I was an NFL owner in need of a HC, Shula would be at the top of my list to consider. I feel Shula has done a fantastic job with what he has been given.

And I agree that McVay does have his stamp all over the place, which IMO is part of his problem. I think if McVay focused more on the offenses 3rd down play calling and finishing teams off when having a lead, we could easily be 17-1.

Shula could take Pleasant with him as his DC if the Rams don't promote him immediately to DC.
IMO Aubrey stays with The Rams.He need to get away.In fact if he didn’t leave for Detroit I don’t think Shula would’ve been promoted above him.
Didn’t The Rams lose a coach with Raheem leaving already??

BTW there’s NO WAY imo Raheem ones back as a DC.I also think he changed? Something happened in Atlanta that changed his character. He lost his stuff when they beat Tampa Bay.A great when but he went off & lost it.What his reaction on TV to the camera’s wasn’t a good look at all.

If Shula does get a head coaching job, I could definitely see McVay either promoting Pleasant, or bringing-back Morris ... but ... I would be interested in Jonathan Gannon.
Another guy that has intrigued me for years is Jim Leonhard of the Broncos. Former player, transitioned to college coach, and been with Denver the past two seasons ... DB coach, pass game coordinator and assistant head coach. Leonhard would likely replace Vance Joseph as DC, should Joseph get a HC job.

However, I wouldn't expect McVay to go outside the Rams, unless it was someone he was familiar with.

I do not know. I have never worked for a company or organization that I would call successful, other than my own. The thing about the Rams is that you can objectively say that they are a successful organization.

To answer your question more directly, I would not leave a successful organization where I was a VP to go to an unsuccessful organization as the CEO. This is especially true when you take into account that Shula is the VP of Operations not Sales, assuming that Sales (offense) and not Operations (defense) is what determines the ultimate success of a company.

From my very limited experience with excess money and power, it does nothing for you in terms of life satisfaction or sense of purpose.

The exception to my point is if someone has something to prove. But then the question is, who do you have something to prove to other than yourself?

If Shula leaves it is because he doubts that he would be a successful HC. Given how long he stuck around as a position coach, I just do not think that external factors (like, money, power and and lack of self-worth) drive his psychology.

In the event of a hypothetical Shula promotion and departure I can guarantee only this.

McVay would be in position and have first dibs on virtually any DC candidate that he likes. Rams would be a golden opportunity destination for any prospect. That gives me great comfort.

If Shula doesn't think he can go and win somewhere as a head coach I don't want him as my DC.
That's one perspective.

Another? Much like Ben Johnson, being confident enough to know you don't need to jump at an opportunity if it isn't right for you.

That's REAL confidence.

The question now is Shula really interested in taking a HC gig if offered? Perhaps he may be another Gannon, or he may be not. He should get about 2 seasons to prove it though.
Gannon was a fuckin goofball. After they hired him I remember watching a vid of him meeting players and the shit was so awkward it was painful, him trying to handshake and vibe with them and be something he obviously was not. So I was certain there and then that he'd fail at installing the right culture.

Shula seems to have leadership to him, seems like he can walk in a room and run it. I'm not sure whether he's fully ready in his knowledge of secondaries, for reasons I've cited here before, in comparison to some of the other HC options who are DCs. But I think he's a strong leader and that's a big part of it.

I think Shula is best served by returning to LA and making this defense great. Get with Snead and identify the corners he wants to throttle Shanahan's underneath BS and improve our tackling in space. Beef up the rotational depth at DL with another snot bubbler. And so on.

Reminded me of Milquetoast Linehan as Scotty ended every sentence with "Okay." Gannon was more in his interaction individually. I remember actually communicating with Jim Thomas of the STL PD who covered the Rams and asked him, how in the world could Linehan come off good in an interview and response was "Maybe Linehan was better in one on ones as opposed to group settings." I just could not believe this guy was trying to lead a football team.

I will communicate once, twice and many times over, Scott Linehan could not motivate a marine at a brothel. Linehan was just a yutz, whereas, Gannon seems more like a putz. IMO, Scott Linehan was the worst Head Coach in Ram history because Spagnuolo could at least communicate a message.
