I believe 5 and maybe 6 (if someone drafts Nix) QBs will be taken before 19 plus a couple of "surprise" picks like every year.
This will force 8/9 players down that the Rams would like meaning they can trade down, accumulate extra picks and still draft a player of need and want. They may even be able to trade down twice.
Possibly. From time to time, I skim through fan sites of other teams, and it seems that most fans want their team to trade down.

It just reminded me that being willing to trade down and finding a partner willing to trade up doesn't always come to fruition.

If he's an elite shut down corner I think you can live with his run defense. I also think his frame is big enough to add weight. He's currently only 7 pounds lighter than terrion Arnold and Kool aid
I disagree. The game has changed to where you rarely find run stuffing strong safeties or teams keeping 3 LBs on the field to take care of the run. You can't as things are more spread out. CBs can no longer cut pulling OLinemen. Blocking seems to rank much higher as a WRs duty. And it appears to be more of those bigger and stronger WRs in the league.

BTW, Arnold weighed in at 189 lbs. and Kool Aid was 199 lbs. and it's not just about Wiggins weight. He isn't a physical player. Oh, he'll chase someone down from behind but take note of what happens when someone is running right at him.

I can agree with most of that. But I think that if the rest of the defense is stout, I wouldn't be worried about having one guy on the field who is only there to be a turnover machine and shut down cover guy. Looking at the weights though I would have him as CB3 behind Mitchell and Kool-Aid though.

That can change after the first 12 picks. The draft has to unfold. As it starts there may be no trade partners but as it unfolds that can change suddenly. All it takes is two teams below you who desperately need a QB or a #1 WR or a LT or Edge, etc. and all but one of the top prospects for that position are off the board.

The last 2 drafts there were 6 trades around the middle/lower half of the first........up to #13 (from 15), #14 (from 17), #21 (from 29), #23 (from 25), #24 (from 25) and #25 (from 27) for DL, OL, CB, CB, CB, TE respectively. There's always a need teams are willing to trade up to get. I think where the Rams sit is perfect for a trade down. A little more than halfway through the first round, 4 QBs could be gone, 4 OTs could be gone, 3 or 4 Edge players could be gone....you get the idea.

And depending on how it unfolds by the time the Rams slot arrives, they may not even want to trade down. Hell, we may not want them to trade down. Suppose Powers-Johnson is still on the board? Or a good LT? Or Edge? Somebody would really have to blow them away to get them to move. That's one of the reasons the draft is so damn interesting.

Someone, I can't remember who, asked about Byron Murphy. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility if he's there. You're drafting him for 2025 and beyond. If he's the best player, I say take him.

Assuming we stay at 19, my way of thinking is as follows. Obviously, a lot of these players are not going to fall to us (I don't think any of the top 3 QBs or top 3 WRs will, and neither will Bowers, so have excluded them), but if they do my order of priority would be:

LT- Alt or Fashanu (I think the other top prospects are better at RT or G)
Edge- Turner, Verse, Latu
CB- Mitchell, Arnold, Wiggins, DeJean
C- JPJ

In the unlikely event that none of these guys is on the board at 19, I would trade down.

I've come around on JJ McCarthy a bit. And I certainly believe he'll be drafted top 19 (most likely top 10).

It's easy to see the Rams doing either.. staying put or moving back.

I'm always in favor of more picks, but.. if there's a tier drop-off after your pick at the positions you're targeting.. and the last guy on your top-tier list is there.. you make the pick, right?

Sub CB for QB and you just described the Rams.

We might as well face it. Whatever they do at 19, most people are going to be disappointed in one way or another.

I'm firmly in the trade down camp, but, there will be a guy or two left that everybody expected to be gone and it's got to be awful hard to trade down when you just might have a sure thing staring at you still on the board. I mean Aaron Donald is the biggest example of that in my mind. I didn't feel that year we had a huge hole at DT. I was ok with the pick but I probably would have gone in another direction to be honest. And look how that turned out. I'd wager most of us here had another player in mind that year. Remember it was a great draft. Clowney went #1 and then disaster struck, we drafted Greg Robinson. And we drafted him before Blake Bortles, Sammy Watkins, Khalil Mack, Jake Matthews, Mike Evans, Anthony Barr, Talyor Lewan, Odell Beckham Jr., Aaron Donald, Kyle Fuller, Zach Martin, JaWaun James, Davonte Adams, Allen Robinson, Jarvis Landry, etc. and Shaquil Barrett went undrafted. Of course, that was the Fisher gang. So HAIL Fisher for Aaron Donald because the rest of that draft was mostly a waste with two 1st round picks. Lamarcus Joyner didn't do too bad for the Rams and Tre Mason lasted for a minute.

But we had a guy wearing a cape blow in a few years ago that definitely has this game figured out now. The McVay gang has got this thing figured out and we are just having fun speculating on mostly stats and what talking heads have said about the kids. Whatever and whoever the strategy or picks turn out to be, I'll probably feel disappointed because it wasn't on my list, confirming I couldn't do that job, You know we all would love to be in their shoes. I couldn't think of a better job that would make me happier. And we are damn lucky we have a genius coaching staff being put together just about every year. Injuries are the only real thing that held us back most of the time. And Les Snead's goofy ass is way smarter than his persona sometimes. It's like a weapon I bet in negotiations for trades.

Anybody that predicts any trades or draft picks should feel pretty good about it and stick your chest out for a few days! I'm planning on getting a lot right! :sunglasses:

I'd love Powers-Johnson or Fautanu but I don't think JPJ makes it to #19. If 1 of those guys are there at #19, they better grab him. And you know there's always a couple of teams who take somebody not projected in the top 20 (hello Jets, Raiders and anybody desperate for a QB who missed on the top 3, etc) pushing real top 20 guys down.
I think JPJ is there at 19 and I hope he's there after 19 honestly. There are so many top end tackles in the first, I can't see a team taking him over a Fashanu, Latham, Fuaga, Mims, Fautanu. Really most of which could be excellent guards too if needed.
I'd take Quinyon Mitchell at #19 (fixed)
As would I, unfortunately, its looking pretty grim for him to last that long now.

I'd like either Fautanu or JPJ at #19. Hell, I'd like to grab Fautanu and trade back into the first or high in the 2nd for JPJ. We should have 11 picks and going down to 10 wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I’m hoping we grab one of those OTs if we stay at 19.
Yeah, that would be good.

I’m leaning towards that as well. I really want the OL to be elite for Staffords remaining years. Move Ajax to RG if they don’t resign Dotson. Move Ajax to LG/Avilla to OC if they retain Dotson.

And at worse, you essentially fill Noteboom's role by adding a 3rd OT, where as between AJ and the rookie, you have two guys that can play RT or LT. So that's insurance if you lose Noteboom.

And I am saying all 3 play, just one plays RG. As I stated in another thread, it could be a way of transitioning AJ to the right side where he eventually ends up at RT in 2 yrs. Preferably they can extend him being on board with that shared vision.
