I'm going one of those extra linemen (Donnall or Sims).....and probably....Cody Davis....I like what Marquez has brought to the team...He's all over the field too...probably better than Sted or Austin at wr...

It's hilarious to me that a team with as pedestrian of a group of WRs as the Rams do have a "tough" decision to make when it comes to activating Quick. If Brian Quick is as up to speed as he can be (not a given) and is healthy (also not a given), it is not even a debate: you put in Quick as your #1 WR and build the rest of the freaking gameday roster.

You think when Martavis Bryant comes back from suspension in a couple of weeks the Steelers are going to sweat putting him in the lineup because that would mean sitting a special teams guy? Give me a break.

The only reason Quick is not in the lineup right now is because he is either A) Not healthy or B) is still playing catch up because of all the time he missed and is struggling. I would put my money on the latter.

I may be wrong, or nuts, But where is it written, IF you have to sit someone, or de-activate someone, The Player must come from the "Special Teams"!?o_O
That said, I'll only partly play into this line of thinking!:D
Here's my Two player's to Sit! Lynch (Off ST) and Westbrooks (Off the D) and now Plug in Quick and Gurley! JMHO

Lynch might be an option, but Westbrooks has played more snaps than Fairley and with Sims down, I don't see them deactivating him.

Yeah, but Bryant can still practice and hasn't missed any time at all in that regard.
Quick was recovering from surgery and hadn't worked his upper body or practiced with the team well into OTAs.

He's just behind by a few weeks. He'll be back when he's fully up to speed.

...the Jared Cook who is leading the Rams in receptions and receiving yards? That seems like a bad idea.
LOL.

But he pushed Davis that one time and has some drops, so gotta cut 766 yards out of our total 3822 yards gained in the pass this year and last and only accounted for a paltry 1437 yards and 8 TDs since he got here. Truly that'll show Cook and make us a better football team.

It'll probably be Givens who gets deactivated (shame, because we're not seeing him get involved much). They're not going to weaken special teams by deactivating Marquez. What's funny to me is how special teams seems to be an after-thought around here. Like you can just mix and match players and the results will always be the same. I guess people don't remember how horrible our special teams were a few years back before Fassel took over. You'd no more want to fuck up his personnel than you'd want to fuck up Cignetti's. One-third of this team's success depends on that.

Interesting question, Dewey.

I see it as a logic problem. A hierarchy of needs thing. Or a "don't let the tail wag the dog" thing. Okay, I'm done with this part. Lol.

Here goes...

Sooner or later we've gotta get Gurley and Quick on the field. They are both clearly starters. The only question is when.

It's gotta be either Givens or Pead that sits. I would sit Givens as Quick gets up to speed.

Later on, when Chase Reynolds is back, Pead would sit.

Btw, sitting Benny is NOT an option. For one thing, Gurley is gonna get very limited snaps when he gets activated. Benny needs to be there to backup Mason. Plus Benny is our best KR.

One last thing. Why the angst over Givens and Pead? Didn't we all come to the conclusion that they were merely placeholders until Gurley and Quick were ready?

What changed?

At least on Givens part it's because he lit it up in preseason, was creating mismatches almost at will. He hasn't done much in the regular season, but that's because for some reason despite being active they haven't really made him a part of the game.

I think people want to see that, he's not a starter by any stretch of the imagination, but having him come and make some headaches for defenses is a valuable asset. The problem is that there's just no time for him to do him, given that Foles is on the run for his life half the time.

Pead's not really a placeholder though, I don't think. He's got a spot on special teams regardless of what Gurley does. Kind of like carrying Dominique Curry all those years. He excelled at what he did, so they kept him active at all times. Givens might be a different story, but again ... that kinda bums me out because he's ultra-focused this year.

WHAT?!?

You're going to throw away Givens' .5 receptions for 3.5 yard average to get Quick on the field?! That's crazy talk sir!
Can't get yards if you only have one target.
Givens and Quick both produce at around the same level, so it's not like we're talking about Isaac Bruce vs Kevin Curtis.

Givens:

All things considered, I'd rather have Quick because of his range and effectiveness in the redzone.
But Givens isn't some scrub that should be discounted because he had one target this year.

That's fair, and valid, but he's still the tallest midget in the room. Must be a great practice player.

I'm very disappointed that they haven't seen fit to get Givens the ball this season. On the other hand, I'm far more disappointed to see Quick on the bench. When we start having to bench players we want in the game, to get players we need in the game, that's a good thing.

But you're adding 3 players in your scenario (Quick, Gurley, Reynolds) and only removing 2 (Pead, Givens).

Exactly.
Other than Tavon (and that's based on THIS year) who cant we afford to live without?

Just because we are sitting Givens doesn't put mean cutting him. I would sit Givens until we can get enough of a passing game going that he is not just an idle threat on the outside. TA can fill that role just fine. Still I would probably sit Pead as we have Bates back and give the KR duties to Benny. I wouldn't be surprised if we sit Givens and Marquez actually gets some snaps on offense so we can work the middle.

Don't forget Tre Watts will be in the mix as well in week 5. That's who Pead needs to be looking over his shoulder for.
