Bet all my ROD bucks he will…
I just commented on a Von Miller "staying" thread..

I think there's a REALLY good chance he does. The cap is supposed to take big jumps in 23 and 24.. The Rams don't have first or second rounder this year.. they need to do whatever it takes to keep as much talent on board in 22 as possible. There are a lot of gimmicks to make that happen.

I think if the Rams can figure it out, we have Kupp, Woods AND OBJ.

I dunno how it’s all gonna play out because we all have a better chance of winning back to back powerballs than we do of correctly guessing next season’s roster.

But… we’ve seen how our offense struggled when one of the top two WRs went down. With us defending our new Super Bowl Title… we’re gonna get everyone’s best… which will make depth at key positions, especially skill positions that much more important.

When we lost Woods, we lost part of our offense that neither OBJ or Van has been able to replace.

If they can work the cap magic as they have thus far, I think they will and keep both Woods and OBJ

Something that I didn't think I would consider until last weekend... maybe trading or cutting Higbee loose.
Blanton's blocking was much more impressive than I expected.. and he showed he can catch enough to punish a D. If you're rolling with Woods, Kupp, OBJ, Jefferson and Akers already.. would that be such a bad idea? Saves around 7 mil..

Please, NO.
This would pretty much eliminate McVay's use of 12 personnel, something he often likes as an option to those 3 WR sets.

I like having continuity on the OL but don’t see a need to pay Corbett. I think keeping Allen and having Shelton has worked well for OC and don’t see paying for a free agent OG. I do hope Carberry sticks around I think he’s made a difference this year.

Von, Beckham, Allen, Michele would be my top 4 to keep.
If OBJ wants to play for less but win then there is a decent chance of having him here for several more seasons. The below off season formula should provide enough cap funds to keep OBJ.

If the Rams are able to resign our starting UFA OC Brian Allen then they can resign RFA presently our #6 OL'er to be the lead OL'er going into OTA's to replace UFA Austin Corbett.

BA does not have a ton of mileage on him other than that one bad knee. BA will have only started 37 gms in four seasons. His injury history will not draw a ton of interest of big $$$ being thrown at him. His size being @ 6-1 is also an issue & always will be in pass protection but his run blocking fits what the Rams desire. This would be a very good decision to go with the Joe Noteboom big $$ contract..... settling down the loss of 2 starters Andrew Whitworth & Austin Corbett.

Coleman Shelton would be another easy resignation being an RFA. CS has been here 3 seasons now & finished 3 gms as the starter. He has been active for 46 gms. He excels @ hitting a moving target. He like BA are not as proficient @ pass blocking but in the run game he would be better than Corbett.

Snead appears to have a decent reserve OL cadre waiting in the wings. Carberry has Alaric Jackson, Bobby Evans & Max Pircher @ OT. Alaric Jackson has the skills & talent to be a good LG behind David Edwards & even overtake him.

The interior OL needs incoming young groom-able talent. Tremayne Anchrum has the talent to play RG & RT. OG/OT Chandler Brewer looked to have taken a step back in since 2019 but looked good in the preseason of that yr. He played four positions in the 2019 preseason. Jeremiah Kolone has been around for 4 seasons & newby OC Drake Jackson & long-time PS Jamil Demby who was drafted by the Rams in 2018.

You would still have 3 TEs on the roster, just cheaper options. You might bring Mundt back and if they're done with Hopkins, they'll bring another in through draft or UDFA. Mundt can block.

If Alaric Jackson's performance against the Vikings wasn't a mirage.. the complaints about the Rams not drafting a lineman last year will really be pointless. He looked, at worse, to be a viable 3rd tackle for next season.

I'm not sure about the rest... but starting LT is the biggest issue and we'll see where they go.

Yeah, folks need to tap the brakes on Blanton. The TE group needs an upgrade even with Higbee and Blanton continuing to progress.

Signing Allen just feels risky to me Boni. Dropoff from him to Shelton is minimal so Shelton can hold it down one year while they work a new dev center.

This team is dedicated to drafting and developing on the OL. It's not a bad strategy given how NCAA teams don't really teach like they used to. Kind of boring too for us at least, because we can't see how these guys perform in practice.

Guard feels like the spot we need to upgrade. If they sign Corbs I'll be surprised because his film is kind of up and down. Maybe they think he's gonna be an elite guy at some point idk, but barring that just let him walk and collect the comp pick.

Glad you mentioned Drake Jackson. I was kind of hoping they'd transition to some more power types on that OL but they seem hell bent on zone/duo mix so maybe he has a chance to develop. I'd like more physicality though.

Going forward this offense needs to be better on the ground. There is no way they're happy with this ground game. It's not bad, but it's also not great and if you're gonna lock guys up before they hit the market it should be because they're part of the unit you want to have. If we assume Boom takes over for Whit then we have two guys being "paid" on the edges. And all these OTs they have drafted will compete for that RG job. Shelton at C, Edwards at LG.

Re: any draft picks we make I suggest they go after some guys with mean streaks. Type of OL who finish blocks snap to snap and play with a chip. And if they decide to let Boom walk in FA due to liking one of their in-house options at LT then that opens up a possibility of upgrading RG on the market. I really don't care how they do it I just hope they make an effort to upgrade physicality on the interior.

While Alaric Jackson has been a surprise bonus as a UDFA, I don't believe it should let the Rams off the hook for ignoring the OL during the 2021 draft. Many here including myself are still sore over the JuJu Atwell before Creed Humphrey pick. Humphrey would have eliminated our free agency dilemma regarding both Allen & Corbett as money appears pretty tight now for whether we'll be able to re-sign one of them, let alone both. Noteboom has to be our priority re-sign on the OL, and Alaric has proven himself so far as our top swing OT at both ends. Both Edwards & Evans enter free agency next year (2023) leaving our interior OL vulnerable once again with regards to depth, and while Shelton is an RFA entering 2022, he'll also become eligible for free agency in 2023.

OBJ was heavily recruited by Von Miller. They have dreamed about playing on the same team for years. Both IMO will be motivated to stay. Guaranteed money and contract structure is what is important in fitting players in under the cap. Whitworth will clear $16M off the cap. Releasing Havenstein would clear just under $5M more. That is about $21M just for those two and it should be more than enough to sign Beckham and Miller.

Things like making most of their money as a signing bonus to allow the Rams to lower their base salary and cap hit. Since signing bonus' are fully guaranteed players normally don't care.

I think Alaric Jackson should be the starting RT next year allowing them to cut loose Havenstein to clear cap. Noteboom is clearly in their plans for LT as the Rams have denied trade offers for him over the years. They should sign Shelton now when it's cheaper and he solves one of their OG spots as well as their backup center. Corbett is serviceable and should be extended for2 years. This allows the Rams to draft OGs and give them two years to develop. IMO Shelton is a better OG than Edwards who is strictly an OT IMO. Edwards can be the swing OT next year. Extend Allen because his weakness was blitz pick up calls. But that comes with experience. He's a pretty good blocker and plays well when asked to block on the second level.

They drafted Rochell to replace Darious Williams so I don't see them signing Williams. He's a future comp pick IMO.

If the Rams sign all their priority FAs it will take IMO between $30-33M. That can be mitigated by structure and as I've illustrated they can clear $21M just by releasing Whit and Havenstein. That's why I've always thought they can get it done. Edwards can be their swing OT which is where I think he belongs.

$5M yield isn't all that much when you lose a guy who has been playing the way Hav has played for us this year. He's had some down games but overall the guy has delivered above his paygrade in 2021 and the playoffs.

It's possible. But that move would be a worst case scenario where they can't get that cap space anywhere else and desperately need it.

Prior to this season that looked like a more likely option. Not now though. I'd say it's a longshot now because with Whit gone we need someone leading that group. Hav is probably that guy.

Not sure we should release Havenstein

They shouldn't, the Rams can save almost as much for 2022 by just extending him. Hav will only be 30 next season, he still has plenty of good football in him.

I think they're totally off the hook for not drafting OL. Even with multiple injuries and COVID issues.. they performed.

That doesn't mean the Tutu pick was good.

They seem to understand what they have on the roster and what they're developing.

I don’t think any poster, other than the guy above, believes the Rams should or will release Rob Havenstein.

The above poster has been calling for it since last off-season.
There's a weird obsession there. Hav was a beast against the 9ers last week.
