If the Jets are prepared to cut him, it probably wouldn't cost much to trade for him. We'd just have to open up cap room. He averaged 82 catches for 1085 yards and 10 TDs over the previous four seasons before his injuries last year.

The Jets seem to be cutting a lot of players for Cap reasons! What about that LBer they just cut!?! He was supposed to be pretty good!

I've always liked Decker and still think he's got a couple of good years left. I just worry about the money the only way I could see a trade happening is if they traded Tavon for Decker. I believe the Rams have the least amount of cap in the league right now and there somehow in the process of giving Donald possibly the biggest contract ever for a Defensive player (hell he might be pushing for highest paid player ever for offense or defense) so how would we take on a another 8 mil cap hit without trading, cutting or a major restructure from someone like Quinn.

I think it would be a great trade if it was for a 5th rounder or less. Eric Decker has been a red zone scoring specialist his entire career and you look at the Rams. We desperately need red zone help and one of the main knocks on McVay's system was red zone efficiency.

We have plenty of young receivers to develop but not much in the way of veteran talent for them to learn from. I would be fine with letting go of Thomas or Spruce in exchange for a guy with Decker's resumé and skills.
Ramrasta, My man, I like you, but stay away from any talk of letting my man crush S-P-R-U-U-C-E go!! :mrburnsevil:
He's been looking pretty good, in Shorts and no pads so far!:fuelfire:
Seriously him and Goff seem to be connecting, I don't want to break that connection!!(y);):D

The jets are flaming out, and are in rebuild mode. David Harris, good player, but he's 33. I guess the jets let him practice with the team and cut him right after.

All I know is, the Rams have consistently passed on available proven veteran WRs over the years, and our WR corps has arguably been the worst the NFL has ever seen over the past 8 years or so.

I'd go shock and awe with the position and that would include signing Decker. Can figure out how to make the cap work.

I would consider trading Tavon for Decker.....consider....I really want to see what McVay has planned for Tavon....but if they traded him for Decker, can't be mad at that.

I had that in my brain housing group where I wouldn't dare saying without getting some sort of backlash but I would agree on that trade. There would be a lot of incentive too.

Not one but two surgeries. Eight months rotator cuff and six months for a hip at age 30 before he recovers. That's camp time if all goes well. Lot of things to research first. How is he doing rehabing the injuries? Money and roster spot? I don't know how much he helps in two or three years. I might kick the tires but, he wouldn't be a priority.

New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker underwent surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff he suffered in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Decker also underwent surgery on his hip for an undisclosed issue. He was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 12 and is out for the season.

Latest on Decker's Recovery Timeline After Shoulder Surgery
Tuesday, Nov. 15
ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reported on Tuesday that Decker "is having surgery [Tuesday] to repair a torn rotator cuff. This was expected. The recovery will be eight months, according to the team. That takes him to mid-July, shortly before the start of training camp, if all goes well in his rehab. Decker said recently he doesn't expect to miss any regular-season action in 2017."

He's 30, has been fighting injuries for a while, and has never been the top target on any team he's played for. IMO you don't want him.

similar to maclin, I dont see how they could add him at his current contract without trading tavon. If the price is reasonable to sign after clearing waivers, gotta kick the tires but again just seems like too much money to afford

I just don't see Decker as a serious Ram option.

And for several reasons. No disrespect to Decker and his fine career intended, btw.

His health is suspect at this point. That's huge.

His salary would pose a cap problem, to say the least. Might not be impossible to solve, but would require some shuffling that could inhibit other desired contract extension moves.

His contributions wouldn't be all that, imo, even if the first two points didn't exist.

But my biggest issue is that I want to give all possible snaps to our youngster receiving corps. And to see if Tavon has a Ram future. I want to see those snaps in camp, in PS games, and certainly in the regular season.

I see tons of potential in our WR and TE corps under this coaching staff. Tons more than with adding Decker or Maclin, tbh.

He was never fast as you well know, and how I'd determine how he isn't the same guy was the game he had vs the Bengals. Not a fan man, and he's also up there in age now. I'd definitely pass, but no worries on agreeing to disagree.

I disagree, but there's no right answer here (at this point).

Just think, the Rams could sign him, then put him on the season ending IR right away so he will never cost a spot on the 53
There is no way. He had 2 surgeries last year. Hip and shoulder. He's a mess.
The hip surgery takes 6 months to heal, and at first they weren't even going to do the shoulder surgery until the hip was healed enough for him to walk. Then a month after he had the shoulder surgery anyway which they think takes 8 months.
Even the best case scenario was that he *might* be ready for opening day, with the Jets.
Joining another team? He wont be working out AT ALL for several months, cant run, cant lift.
So he wont even be in TC/Pre-season for "competition" or "veteran leadership"

Decker is already cleared. He's participating fully in OTAs.

I do want him. ;)

I also disagree with the contention that he's been fighting injuries for awhile. He played 92 out of 96 games his first 6 years in the NFL. Last year was the first year where he missed considerable time with an injury. Every NFL player gets nicked up from time to time, but Decker had been durable until last year during his NFL career.

This could be the beginning of the end, or it could be a fluke injury. If we can acquire him for next to nothing, I think it's worth the risk.

As for him not being a top target, that's fine.(although, technically, he was the #1 WR in 2014 with the Jets and had a near 1000 yard season with Geno Smith at QB) If Woods, Kupp, etc. are as good as we hope, he won't be the top target here. If they aren't, I think we'll be pining for a high-end #2 WR.

His rehab must have gone extraordinarily well. Jets are looking to cut/trade him right now because he's fully cleared and able to participate in OTAs.

IMO, he's never been a game-changer, and he's not going to get better post-30 and post-injury. You're better off trying to develop the guys on your roster and bringing in young vets like Woods.

No on Decker please.

Jets look to be a in a full-season tank

So what are the New York Jets thinking? Many think they’re thinking about positioning themselves to “earn” the No. 1 overall pick in the draft by tanking for the full season.

As noted by Charean Williams on Tuesday, G.M. Mike Maccagnan denies that. But what else is he going to say?

Sure, we know we’re not going to compete for a playoff spot this year, so why not compete for the top spot in the draft?

Tuesday’s moves feel like they were driven by ownership. Why else would a team dump two key veterans this late in the offseason, clearing $13.75 million in cash and cap space that likely won’t be spent this year?

That’s the other benefit for 2018. In addition to enhanced draft positioning, the Jets will carry that extra cap space into 2018, along with (per NFLPA records) nearly $9 million they currently have in 2017. So they can sign free agents and draft players higher in the process and hopefully (for them) turn around a team that has fallen for the upcoming season about as low as it could.

As noted by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, owner Woody Johnson made the decision to cut Harris and Decker in order to save money in 2017. It also necessarily enhances the team’s position in 2018. Especially if it allows them to get the first overall pick and, in turn, perhaps their first franchise quarterback since Joe Namath.

Jets purge has taken nearly $68 million off the payroll
Posted by Darin Gantt on June 7, 2017

The Jets can avoid calling it a tank.

But when you stack the numbers up on the ledger sheet, it’s awfully hard to deny a clear plan this offseason.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the 11 veteran players the Jets have released this offseason represent $67.9 million in payroll slashed.

That has taken them from one of the highest payrolls in the league to one of the lowest, and positions them to have tremendous flexibility next year. The cuts resulted in just $11.3 million in dead money this year and $2.9 million in dead money in 2018, which could put them around $66 million in cap space next year.

Between this week’s deletion of David Harris and Eric Decker, and previous cuts of Darrelle Revis and Nick Mangold and others, the Jets have chosen a clear direction, even if they won’t admit it.

“No, I think there’s a lot of things that go into these decisions,”General Manager Mike Maccagnan said when asked if the moves were financially motivated. “I think we’ve been focused on trying to create opportunities for a lot of players on this roster. We have some very competitive positions, and we’ll see how it unfolds going forward.”

And we’ll see who is around for the unfolding, after what should be a regrettable season.

We don't need a game-changer. We just need a reliable vet. Listen, I have high hopes for Woods and our young WRs, but we're in a position again where we have nobody proven on the roster. What happens if Kupp and Reynolds struggle like most rookies do? What happens if Thomas, Cooper, and Spruce don't progress? What happens if Tavon continues to be Tavon? What happens if Woods is only the 600 to 700 yard WR that he was in Buffalo? What happens if Woods gets nicked up and misses time?

At the end of the day, we all hope for the best. We all try to be optimistic. But there's a real risk that our WRs struggle again. I want to believe they don't, but it would put my mind at ease if we had a proven vet.

That's good but he hasn't played yet even at OTA's. Like I stated Rams have to find out about his injuries/health.

The old next to nothing trade.;) That's fine. Got to image the Jets will get some nice offers if his injuries check out.

He also has salary of 7.25 Million in 2017 and 7.50 Million in 2018. I don't see the money being worth it for two years.

If it comes down to that??? You try and get Josh Gordon if he is cleared by next season...

Not to be rash but you seem like you are doubting our current receiving corps. Which is understandable. They aren't closers or seasonal vets. They will be though.

Getting us Josh Gordon doesn't help Goff this year (or likely next year).
