Eh, the way I see it, if we are a playoff team we're a borderline playoff team. If we make it'll likely be because 8 or 9 wins is good enough for a wild card spot this year.

I'm not disappointed so far. 2-3 is better than what I expected. If we beat the middle of the road teams on our schedule we'll be a playoff team. If we don't, then we'll be what many suspected.

The players aren’t? No shit? Maybe because they are playing to stay on this roster for this year and next year?

The strategy hasn’t changed from January/February from our FO. This is a an experience year and our FO knows it. Next year is the prize. Regardless if blockheads have no vision or insight into what is actually happening.
Next year can be the prize and we can still compete this year. No one is "tossing" this season.....

so because they can't hang with the big boys we should give up on this season?

fuck that.

the only teams better than the rams in the nfc are the eagles and whiners. everyone else is there for the taking. that makes the rams a playoff calibre team.

“So since they can’t win the SB the team should give up football and start playing rugby”

Pretty easy to conjure a counterpoint the same way.

We all knew the Rams would have to play almost perfect to win this game. Had a lead for a bit on the best team in the NFL and gave them a good run. Youngest team in the NFL and a team on the come. Another good draft or two and another SB run is ours.
So stop bitching everyone.

The rams are like most teams in the nfl... they lean towards the pass until ahead.. the run the ball.

The Eagles were about 70% pass until they got the lead.

About the Rams Offense…

Stafford had a decent first half, but he was off badly in second half. In particular when targeting Kupp and Atwell. Lots of first downs and at least one TD were left on the field.

Once again, McVay abandoned his running game. It’s like he can’t help himself. Very frustrating.

And McVay wasn’t using 12 sets that I noticed. These last 2 things could’ve helped our TOP ratio immensely. How did that work out for you, Sean?

What kind of an OC is LaFleur when he doesn’t get in McVay’s ear when McVay goes off the rails with his predictable play calling?

I thought Williams was supposed to be a pass pro ace, but WTF?

About the Rams Defense…

Hoecht is just killing us. Opponents are gleefully targeting him and will continue to do so as long as he’s on the field as OLB. Wouldn’t you? Can Morris come up with a different option of some kind? Or are we doomed to watching this weekly mismatch?

Eagles clearly found a way to neuter AD and no other Rams were able to take sufficient advantage.

Let’s face it. Rams cannot generate the necessary pressure and opponents know it. A mobile QB like Hurts will feast on the ground against us. Probably can’t fix this until next offseason. Sigh…

I blame both the Offense and the Defense for that obscene imbalance in TOP. Neither unit was able to do their jobs nearly well enough. Hard to watch, wasn’t it?

Our D players don’t know how to tackle, do they? They constantly kept Eagle drives alive further complicating the TOP imbalance. Tackling should be such a fundamental thing, too.

Kendrick picked a bad time to revert to his crippling foul tendencies, huh? Such exquisite timing. Frankly, I think opposing teams are targeting both Hoecht and Kendrick and with good success, I might add.

Rams D allowed an Eagle TD after Rams took the lead with only 32 seconds left in the half? How is that possible?

That Eagle ‘push tush’ play should be made illegal. What is the league waiting for?

And yet, even with all of the above the Rams were only down by 6 with approximately 6 minutes to go. Point being that this was a winnable game, y’all. Coaching miscues and poor player execution cost Rams this victory. That’s what is frustrating me this morning.

This was NOT an implosion such as Cowboys had vs 49ers last night.

Arrrrrgh!
I absolutely agree with this take. I blame partially on the play calling in the 2nd half. I am the biggest McVay supporter but calling all these deep shots were not necessary. We didn't need big chunks we need 5 yard outs or slantsvto get another first down. We keep trying to do these bubble screens and they never work. We abandoned the run when only 6 down. Again McVay refused at points to keep that extra blocker in which was another huge mistake.

Tackling is not on the staff it is on the player. Play calling is on the staff.

We are not going anywhere until we fix our run d up the middle especially now that Brown looks like he is down. And most importantly we need 1 - 2 upgrades at OLB. Do I think that happens this year at best maybe a bandage not a difference maker.

i'm not the one who called this a toss year.

maybe you're thinking about tossing a salad?

.
It is a toss year, for training and preparing. Like it, hate it, or ignore it. Our leadership and FO confirms this regardless because of actions taken.

You tosser of salads

"That Eagle ‘push tush’ play should be made illegal. What is the league waiting for?"

About five minutes after the first star QB gets his nuts punched into his ear hole at the bottom of the pile and has to sit in an ice bucket for the rest of the telecast. Shoulda been done already.

I've seen other teams try it this season and fail.

Last week, the Giants tried it and had two players get injured ... and, they didn't even pick-up the 1st down!

The Eagles and Hurst are just really good at executing it.

I think we're 2 things away from being a legit playoff caliber team.

1 legit veteran edge pass rusher who can win quick against a single blocker and regularly disrupt the QB.
We don't have one. It's possible we could get one, but unlikely and very expensive. It's also possible Young or Mathis or someone else develop into that this season, but also not very likely....

2 - and this might be even more unlikely- we need a much more balanced attack on offense. We need to play smarter, not harder. McVay allows Stafford to play the game the way he wants and when it's late, or we're behind, I'm fine with that as he's the man and we have a SB win to show for it.... but playing our offense as an extension of Matt Staffords mojo isn't doing him or this team any favors. We simply don't have enough heroes to win by hero ball week after week.
Where's the invention? Where's the surprises and the art of play design.
Of course Stafford is our best option and Kupp is his best target. Of course we can squeeze it to him inside tight windows even though they know it's coming.... but is that REALLY the smartest philosophy for this team?

Simply put, we don't have the kind of roster to support and compliment a reckless and predictable offense. We're built to win with our offense and that requires not burning through priceless possessions with drop back passes while the pass rush keeps getting home.

The good news is that McVay is brilliant and *could* have a magical football epiphany that changes our fortunes on O. If that had already happened, I'd be praying we trade for that edge rusher.... but if we're just going to keep doing the same crap, save the picks and money for next year.

The endzone PI on Kendrick is on Morris. In what world should Kendrick be left on an island in this situation? It looks like yeast was instructed to no help but I could be wrong.

You can toss it, Im not, and the players arent.

This is a playoff team and once your in anything can happen.

Some people don't have the fortitude to push through. If the Rams acted like this is a toss year the org is doomed.

Since some want to toss this year then why even come to ROD with a load of loser talk.

Other than last year, we’ve been among the healthiest teams in the NFL, so I’ll take Reggie and staff over any other in the NFL

maybe i have it all wrong but i believe Cupp has had 1 injury free year since he was drafted. Noteboom and Allen have been an injury waiting to happen woods was injured his last year with us. Gurley and Akers were injured a lot. right now, Bennett is out sounds like a personal problem but who knows for sure , bobby brown is injured right now same with logan Bruss this is 2years for him john Wolford was injured a lot before he was shown the door also i don't recall all the injures if you contrast that with McCafferty who was injured a lot with Carolina and now is heathy all the time with the whinners. if it were me i would take the whinners staff but that is just me i could be wrong.

Hey - we're probably the only team that's played both the Niners and Eagles. We've also played Seattle, Cincy and Indy. If you take our games out of that equation (since some of the losses are from us), here are those teams records...

Cincy - 1-3
Seattle - 3-0
SF - 4-0
Philly - 4-0
Indy - 3-1

Three of those were on the road...

That is insane. That's what our opponents have done to the rest of the NFL thus far. 15-4 record - throw our games back in and our opponents record is a combined 18-6. I doubt many teams have had a tougher start than that.

Now here's what we have to look forward to:

Cardinals
Steelers
@Cowboys
@Packers
Seahawks
Browns
@Ravens
Commodes
Saints
@Giants
@Niners

Several stunted offenses in there which will help our defense tremendously. A lot of 3-2 teams, but IMO a lot of those are fake (Steelers, Packers if they win tonight, Saints), and then the "good teams" like the Cowboys and Ravens have looked really bad at times too.

Offense: the Rams just need more easy offense. It looks like everything has to be perfectly drawn up or perfectly executed through the air. You can only sustain that but so long against a decent defense. They need to be able to just hand the ball off and pick up chunk plays but they just can't. Hopefully this is a sign to invest in a real running back and a little more offensive line. Our team's best offense was always when you could hand the ball to Gurley and pick up 6 yards to a touchdown. That's not even good play calling. That's just lay ups. This offense needs more layups.

Defense: we have to have the youngest defense in the league don't we? I don't think there's anything to do there except take the bumps and bruises. Guys like Turner and Young will continue to grow and we will continue to add pieces to that unit. But there's no scheming or miraculous light bulb that will turn on for a lot of them. It's just a growth process. And growth can be painful and agonizing.
Getting a “real” running back won’t matter. Sean abandons the run game as soon as he’s down 3. He only ran Gurley 13 or 14 times against the Falcons in the playoffs in Sean’s first year. I HATE empty sets…que the blitz with no run concerns. Perplexing
