We are good at TE,

McClendon has to prove he's the guy for next year now.

In fact both Rob and Higbeast won't be here next year, so this will be a preview.
Vs the Jags Ferg had the best PFF Run Blocking numbers rated at 76 (16 snaps) - better than the linemen. Appears to be doing well in that category. Maybe the rest to work on is being up to speed on offensive plays but perhaps the others have just been stepping up. Would love to see this position remain a strength with Higbee out and I wonder if they sign or elevate a 4th TE so they can stick with 13 personnel and not be short in case of injury.

It almost always takes injuries to get the people on the field the fans think should already be there. Maybe this unleashes Fergy.
Agree.

Only one starter (Witherspoon) hit the IR through nine games. Three starters went on the IR today.

The contracts of both Havenstein and Higbee are expiring; and they will be 34 and 33 next year. Hopefully they will play again this season but I doubt they are back in 2026.

The Rams may need to decide whether McClendon as the starting RT in 2026; and will look for a 3rd/swing OT ... or whether a Day 1 starter is needed.

Also, with Parkinson representing a big cap hit of over $9M in 2026 but only a small dead-cap-hit if released, they may also need to decide whether they want to bring him back on a re-worked contract.

The next month may be an opportunity to evaluate the above important off-season decisions.

Pro football is so much fun. Even Bad News raises interesting possibilities and opportunities.

Hate to see Higs go on IR. Could limit the usage of 3 TE"s. Maybe they'll use an extra Lineman on those downs and go heavy.
They signed that Muse guy from the Vikings he’s a tight end. I could see them elevating him. If he’s ready.

McClendon will be fine, and they still have Humphrey. McVay made sure he was not going to get caught short-handed on the OL again after last year and 22' for that matter. He knows Stafford wouldn't survive a mess like that. So they have depth in place.

BTW, their OL focus should indicate that they will go OL early in the draft, and not just at OT, considering the emphasis they have placed on the OL recently.
I wouldn't necessarily say that but definitely a consideration. Could go the free agency route for one if they want to weaponize the offense more or upgrade the secondary too. Just so many routes to go. I actually enjoy it being like that in a sense because it's going to lead the board to talk about a wider range of prospects since we don't know what the Rams ultimately think about all of them.

Lake is the big one. The secondary has overcome Witherspoon. We’ll see if they can continue to execute without Lake’s leadership and experience.

Like others have eluded to, this may be the Sun setting on the career of Havenstein. Possibly Higbee too. Age and injuries are at the door. Ironic that both are St Louis guys and both go in IR on the same day.

We’ll miss Higs, but we’ll be okay there with good depth. Fergs and Allen need to become the clear cut guys if our scouting is worth a shit anyway. Fergs especially.

I bag on McVay and his love affair with facing adversity, the Rams will overcome and the next man up will step up.

For the Record, Higbee NOT a St. Louis Ram. Was Drafted in 2016. Havenstein is the ONLY player left in the NFL that played for STL Rams. No big.

Yep. A lot of 2026 decisions are being evaluated now.

IMO, they won't cut or need to rework Parkinson's contract. Last year as TE1 Higbee had a $12.6 mil. cap hit and an $8.777 mil. cap hit this year.

Over the last few weeks Parkinson had already surpassed Higs as TE1 based on snap count and has been performing well in that role. A 2026 cap hit of $9.833 mil. is reasonable for a TE1.

I liked Pierce coming out of college so I'm for this. Only thing is, don't we have to put him on the 53?
Yes but the Rams currently have two open spots on the 53.

Three players went on IR (-3); and Mevis was added to the 53 (+1). I can do math up to ten fingers!

And, if it would piss-off Howie Roseman even just a little bit ... I would be in favor of it.

I'm a bit sad to see Havenstein go on the IR because I suspect we've seen his last snap as a Ram. He's the last holdover from the St. Louis team.
I'm guessing we see Havenstein back this year. Even as veteran depth should McClendon excel (best case).

I think he was compromised, and that hurt his ability to be effective against a talented front like Seattle but,
I also think he could gut-it-out and play. Guessing ... Hoping ... this is just to get him somewhat healthy.

So who's the next TE they bring up-- Mark Redman or Nick Muse? Don't know anything about either guy.

Rams have been so great at 13 personnel, it was cool to have a solid four-man rotation for those 3 guys. All 4 presented different match-up problems. I wonder if McVay will back off on the 13 personnel now that Higbee is down for awhile.
