Sorry I haven't responded to your thread UK. I manage kitchens that all are associated with bars and gambling that also allow smoking, so I'm pretty much surrounded by addictive avenues. I have to admit that I use alcohol too much myself. Oddly, my use tends to be mostly at my place of work. My home tends to be my safe area. Amazingly, the Rams haven't changed that as I rarely even have so much as a beer during the game.
My question is, is there a place that you can go that will take away your desire to drink? As
@FaulkSF said, is there a way you can get in some exercise? A walk, a hike, a work out venue of some sort? Is there a buddy or relative you can reach out to to just do something that doesn't involve drinking?
For me, when I'm home, I am generally working on something - loading bullets, fixing up my man cave, working in my garage, etc... Even if it's just puttering around, I don't find the want to drink while I'm doing it.
I too just turned 60 (last week in fact). I feel you when you talk about your ability to govern things in your life being more difficult - especially with something that allows you a brief escape.
I like the following quote as it seems to me that as much as some of us can empathize with you and offer suggestions/advice, seeking neutral/outside help from people with real world knowledge may be the best answer.
All the best to you and you know we're all in your corner.
Onward and upward,
