I hope so, but at least we have the 5th year option. I expect them to exercise that option now. That would give us 2 more years with him.
True I forgot about the 5th year option. It could allow us to open talks this year but not do anything until next year and get Lake and others signed.

Yes. I would work on Lake and Durant now.
I'm always skeptical in situations like Durant. Not because of his play or him. But because they don't seem to sign a bunch of players in a position group. We're talking about signing Witherspoon, Forbes and Lake. Three DB's on bigger contracts not huge but bigger could be more than they want when you factor in soon we'll also have a couple DT and Edge guys needing deals as well as Puka. A rookie QB after Stafford of course could change that but we have a lot of contracts coming up so they'll have to make decisions.

We know they draft well of late so they could go that route to replace a few of these guys. All that is also why I'm skeptical about Avilla getting a 2nd contract.

Yeah, it's gonna be tough figuring it all out, and I do agree that it's interrelated. If they continue with Stafford for the next few years, there will be some painful choices of which players they let walk. If they go with a rookie QB soon, they'll be able to afford resigning a lot more young players.

I think we have the best front office in the league so I'm confident they'll figure it out.

On the DBs, let's assume they want to keep Forbes and extend Lake. There may still be a pathway to resign Durant depending on how much reasonable the contract is.

Witherspoon probably won't be an obstacle because every year they wait to sign him and he ends up signing on a very inexpensive contract. Given his age and coming off injury, I'd imaging that doesn't change. Resigning Durant might come down to what they decide to do with Williams. If they cut him, maybe they give Durant that money instead. Also, if they pick up Forbes' 5th year option and then extend, he wouldn't get really expensive until 2028.

While they do draft well, it will be hard to replace all of the DBs they'll be losing after this season if they don't resign any of them. Curl, Lake, Durant, Witherspoon, and McCreary are pending free agents. They gotta bring back at least a couple to field a secondary next year. I'm wondering if the smart play is to extend Lake and Durant and bring back Witherspoon on a cheap contract like the last couple of years.

I agree on Avila. I'd like to see an extension but I don't know if they can.

I think next year Williams and Witherspoon are both gone give Durant and Lake some of that money.
Ultimately, neither DW nor Witherspoon represent the future. Another reason why Forbes’ play is critical to the success of this defense.

The Rams are in a position to draft a top CB this year. It is gonna be very interesting to see how they handle this situation.

Ahh dammit
And I was in such a good mood....
That is the genuine (correct) response I was looking for.......

Some other's can't pass the test.

Not sure about Lake. We have really good safeties, and the D is playing good without him.

Save some of that money for Puka and BY and Turner.
Their top 2 receivers were out, Evans being one. This is how it should look when we play against back up receivers. Also teams now have film on how our D is scheming without him. I am just saying pump the brakes a little. We have to play some good teams still without Lake and it might show up against them.

Their #1 WR was out (Mike Evans). Chris Godwin played.

Forbes development has been awesome to watch. We have so much cap space next year and I'm riding so high on this team, right now I want to re-sign/extend everyone within reason.

I would re-sign Lake, Curl and Durant right now. Extend Puka just to get that done. Bring Stafford and Adams back (IIRC they are both 'under contract' with no guarantees beyond this year, so would require restructuring/extensions for both).

I am assuming we can get Lake/Curl/Durant for between 8-14 million each.

Then we wait on extensions for Turner and Young to see how next year shakes out - if that ends up being Stafford and Davantes last ride with us, we can likely afford to extend Tuner and Young, then go with a cheap rookie QB contract.

THEN we would basically bring this entire team back (minus Higbee, Havenstein and maybe Witherspoon (depending on amount for him) but have two first and a second. If Stafford and Davante are in, we use those picks on CB/T to upgrade, possibly QB or WR depending.

This team man.....it is SO deep its crazy.

really really....

When he show's he can hold his own against the good WR's I'll be more comfortable..... But he showed he can out play most back up wide receivers and that's a start in the right direction.
JSN had one of his lowest yardage games of the year.
Top receiver in the league, from what I'm seeing.

Witherspoon won't be back unless it's for near vet min. They will add a few CBs in the draft. Curl has really blossomed, would love to bring him and Lake back and then you only need a CB or two and maybe add more DL depth to replace Murchison. Then you are done on D. Then add OL depth and a young WR on offense and you're done. Of course maybe a QB in 26' ...or maybe 27'.
