alot of great P.E. Class memories
Come on now.
You know you were secretly pulling for Luke and Laura to work it out!
I don't think I've ever watched a episode of General Hospital

I think The Young and Restless and Guiding Light were the ones my mom watched

I do still remember when I was real young , when Guiding Light came on , that meant it was my nap time..........................lol

although I do still remember the whole , Luke and Laura craze , even if I had forgotten their names , but it was right up their with , Who Shot JR

I do remember watching a few episodes of , The Price Is Right though

I watched the price is right.
But those soaps were enough to make a sick kid want to go to school.

My Mom always watched General Hospital.

When I was still existing on an academic calendar, Summer was an amazing time of year that juxtaposed a feeling of freedom and endless possibilities with an innate sense of the fleeting nature of the season. Every moment was made more impactful by the balance between the two. Once I started my working life, I lost that. Maybe someday I’ll feel it again.
C'mon... Admit it. You spent the summers with your nose in a book.

Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, we had a junior olympic size pool with a diving board. When we weren't out on our skateboards, or riding our bikes, the entire neighborhood seemed to be hanging by our pool.

One summer, a bunch of us kids snuck into a strip mall on Parthenia that was being built but had stopped for some reason. We collected up boards and plywood and built some pretty elaborate launch and landing ramps inside the building and started doing jumping competitions. There were no walls inside so you could get quite the long run up to the ramp. We all wore two pairs of pants, a couple jackets, and some form of helmet. I wore my Rams helmet that I really don't think would have done much to protect my skull. My bike was an AMF Roadmaster (like the one pictured) that I had put cross bars on and changed the seat to a BMX style seat. I didn't like the orange color so I took it apart and painted it Roger DeCoster yellow with one of my mom's paint brushes. From a distance, it looked pretty cool.:zany:

Finally, someone came in while we were all in there and it became a game of who could ride the fastest through the man door. It was a bummer to have that go away.

One other summer, my dad had emptied the pool because either the heater or filter was giving him problems. While my parents were away at an art show tour for about a month, we decided it was perfect for skateboarding. It really wasn't as it had very sharp transitions from the floor to the wall. But it was 12 ft deep so it became a contest of who could hit the lip. I was the only one to be able to do it. Don't get me wrong, I sucked at tricks (I could barely do a 540), but I got a lot of practice in on that pool and figured it out. I had a fiberglass banana board with a kick tail, Chicago trucks and Cadilac wheels. It was quite the board back then.

Then of course, one of my brother's friends decided it would be great for bicycles too. Unfortunately, the black tires made an awful mess of the pool in less than an hour. I think my ears are STILL ringing from when my parents got home and saw it. Spankings didn't begin to describe the punishment. We also had to find any job we could find (for me that meant trapping gophers, mowing lawns, and pulling weeds) and earn the money to pumice and acid wash the entire pool and repaint it. I remember we were working late one evening on the pool and had the pool light on. My sister squirted it by accident with a hose and the think exploded, throwing glass shards everywhere. That also cost a lot more gophers and lawns.

I had a fun childhood but us kids could often be our own worst enemies.

I do remember going to one of those Green Stamps store when I was a kid with my Grandmother , where you could redeem your stamps for merchandise , also remember going to store with mom going through the check out and her rolling up the new stamps she got and putting them in her purse

stuff like that , just doesnt exist anymore

Well... only when they made me go to "summer school" because I was failing a class - or more likely, because I told the English teacher I had, that she wasn't any better when my dad was her student!! :laugh4:

Mom and dad used to put me on an airplane and I'd fly down to John Wayne Airport and I'd spend the summers with my cousins at Newport Beach, Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farms. Catch a few baseball games in between all that. Until I got a bit older then I'd go up to the other end of California in the summer with the other side of the family going hunting, fishing and smoking the Humbolt Homegrown.

1976

The Bicentennial

I was probably the most Red , White & Blue ten year old you would have ever meet

The shows , the commercials , the merchandise , every where you looked , every store you went into , 1776-1976 stuff everywhere

Bicentennial coins , collectables , I sucked it all in , and loved every second of it ,

I might have only been 10 , but I can still remember how bummed I got when I missed The Bicentennial Minute.......................lol

I can still remember so much from that year

I remember Green Stamps, but for some reason we were Blue Chip Stamp collectors in my house in the 60's and 70's SoCal.

I do remember getting fam around the kitchen table for some stamping fun...
We'd get a bowl with a sponge and some water and start wiping the glue sides and slapping them into the books!
I wonder what we ever got??? A toaster? A new skillet? :woozy2:

how could you not get caught up in the Bicentennial , 1976 ...
When I was in high school, my town in Rhode Island celebrated their Tri-Centennial anniversary. It was difficult as a kid, to comprehend the meaningfulness of this. The town however, went all in - many civic and business leaders - and even regular folks, grew beards or mutton chops and dressed in period attire. Citations in accordance with violations of some of the old rules and blue laws were given out (in jest) and kangaroo courts were held were the convicted folks were subject to the stocks or dunk tanks... All in good humor...
