Bringing up AD I’ve recently been in some asinine arguments about TJ Watt being better than AD in every statistic. Some even say AD is handed his fame by the media.

It’s mind boggling that some people cannot see his greatness just by watching games.
I’ve found most didn’t even know who AD was until his first DPOY.

Then discount him because they look at stats and don’t actually watch a game and have zero clue on the fundamentals of football which is great to to quiz on knowledge.

Don’t get me wrong, I love watching Watt play but a lot of those salty guys are Steeler homers and salty he gets cut out slightly every year. ( reminds me of Holt or Jackson in years past)

Pace was amazing.

He did fall off at 31, like a rock. Which is sort of odd for modern athletes, even of Pace’s era.

The running back history alone is off the charts, and I will always include Bettis among them. We drafted him and he ran his ass off for a couple of bad Rams teams.

Steve Ortmayer waited all those years for a General Manager & Ortmayer trades Bettis and then drafts Lawrence Phillips & Eddie Kennison over Eddie George & Marvin Harrison. Thank You Steve.

Also ask them if TJ Watt has ever been blocked by 4 players on a single play. I wish I could find that picture.

He won two DPOY awards. One of which was the same year as his MVP. He played against ancient bland offenses.
Hell of a player & even a better Judge guess I’m still a tad bitter over those losses when I was a lad.

Pace was a helluva LOT, but I think you overestimate him. He wasn’t even the best LOT of his time, much less in history.

Personally, I think both Jonathan Ogden and Walter Jones were superior.

Rams43,
I think Jones and Ogden may have been better run blockers but I've always believed in prioritizing pass blocking over run blocking; especially for Left Tackles.
And that is why our Big O is the superior choice among these others.

Besides RBs like Faulk and Steven Jackson seemed to do just fine running to the left behind Orlando.

Just wanted to mention that the Rams have such an embarrassment of riches, that we let a potential 8th men among boys walk when the Chargers picked up Reeder. Oh what could have been

I’ve followed a lot of NFL football but only since 1972 so I can’t vouche for before then. I am confident is saying since 1972 there has only been one other defensive player close to AD and that’s LT. In my mind that’s non-debatable and idiotic to challenge but that’s in my mind.

But even the great LT didn't have a walk off pressure in the NFCCG and the Super Bowl.

Especially in the Rams offense...they ran empty backfield sets twice as much as anyone else in the GSOT days...and Pace could dominate the best pass rushers in the game.

And as a run blocker....one of the most impressive displays I've ever seen from a college lineman was Pace in Eddie George's 300 yard game against Illinois in 1995...Kevin Hardy and Simeon Rice were two of the top 3 picks in the 1996 draft...Big O just wiped the field with them....pancaked Rice at least 10 times, completely demoralized that defense.

Reggie White comes to mind…

Bruce Smith doesn’t even as he has the all-time sack record at 200 even because he was just super good, but didn’t “change the game”

LT was lightning fast and strong (coke can do that I guess). He changed how OL, blocking schemes and whole offenses worked

Reggie White was a 6’5” 300lb DE (mostly, at the end he was moved inside to DT) whose size and ridiculous strength again changed how teams drafted, blocked and ran their offense

AD is lightning fast and crazy strong. The difference is that AD is mostly on the inside at the 3T and has changed the way teams draft, block and run their offenses, but NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME has had more personnel dedicated to stopping just him. How many triple teams have we seen other HoF defenders face? Did LT, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Jack Youngblood, Merlin Olsen ever face a quadruple team?

AD has and this is in an age of analytics and computing power dedicated to finding the most efficient offensive schemes and plays.

It’s facts like this… that he’s changing the game while also being the most opposed… most personnel thrown at him, most schemed against, most changes in how opponents draft (LT is close in this regard). Before AD, how many teams really cared if the center and OGs had nifty feet AND could anchor? Many NFL OGs we’re college Tackles who didn’t have the feet to play outside (that’s still the case for most teams including the Rams). But going against, a team could have a both nimble and anchoring OG and double AD or they could triple team him…and still get beaten

That’s why AD is the greatest defender ever. He’s playing at this level against more opposition than any other defender in history. And his 20
Sack season may be one of the greatest seasons by any defender ever.

In many ways I see watching each Rams game both as a chance to see our Rams win, but maybe more importantly, to witness history as each defensive snap, we are watching arguably the greatest defender ever do it at a higher level than anyone ever has. I feel if one respects the NFL, one almost has to watch every Rams game just to pay respects to ADs greatness.

What year was that game? I remember when it happened. That was INCREDIBLE!
Had to be 2000 the key is that Bailey was 22 in 2000 plus the Rams lost that game to the Redskins that year 33-20. Confused me at first because I thought the QB was Bulger at first, but it was Trent Green, Warner being out with injury that year.

Well unfortunately thanks to an ailing knee, Todd Gurley isnt on that list. But when he was healthy he was by far the best back in the league

That’s cool, Arky. We are just sharing opinions and kinda hairsplitting among 3 HOF LOT’s. They were all great players, that’s for sure.

I’m talking about ‘men among boys’ type dominance caliber studs.

Deacon Jones

Jack Youngblood

Eric Dickerson

Marshall Faulk

Kurt Warner

Isaac Bruce

Just to name a few as examples.

You know, those types of players that one can never forget. But those types are pretty rare and it’s unusual to have more than one on any given team at the same time. Rams once had 3 at the same time in Warner, Faulk, and Bruce and it was called the GSOT. Think about that for just a moment.

Well, I’m trying to wrap my mind around our current 2022 possibilities. I think we might just have 5 and maybe even 7 such talents on Rams roster for this season.

Matthew Stafford. Is there a better QB for this O in the league?

Aaron Donald. Need I say more?

Jalen Ramsey. If healthy, he’s the best CB in the league.

Cooper Kupp. Possibly the smartest football player on Rams since Faulk. And what a year he just had paired with Stafford.

Bobby Wagner. Yeah, he’s in the twilight of his career but it’s been a HOF worthy career with no signs of slowing down yet.

IMO, all 5 of these guys are All Pro caliber currently and constantly treat us to jaw-dropping plays. All will be future HOF’ers, I think.

Now I’m gonna add 2 more names for your consideration.

Allen Robinson. Yep, I’m projecting here because he just joined the team but I see him flourishing in his 1st year here like Stafford and Kupp did when paired last year. We’ve seen glimpses of what AR can accomplish with much lesser QB’s in vastly inferior O’s so I’m very optimistic about this guy for this year.

OBJ. He hasn’t signed yet and won’t be able to play until November, I know. But IF he signs then and joins this O mid season he will once again be making one amazing play after another. This O should be unstoppable. I feel that this last surgery cleaned up his knee and he will be good as he ever was, and I also feel strongly that he will re-sign with Rams. It makes too much sense for both parties.

So there you have it. A confluence of 5 All Pro caliber elites plus 2 more strong possibilities waiting in the wings to join this party. All coached by McVay and his staff.

How in the world did Snead put this all together for one potentially amazing season in the first place? Somebody pinch me!

This is worth a Hot Damn!
I think, in total,-- the (2022) Rams have 16 to 17 blue and red chip players.
