Los Angeles Rams
KRISTOPHER KNOXDECEMBER 2, 2020
    • Andrew Whitworth

      Projected Cap Space: -$18.5 million
      • Offensive Tackle
      • Quarterback
      • Cornerback
    • The Los Angeles Rams are one of the most complete teams, but they have one glaring need they must address. They need to find a new franchise left tackle. Andrew Whitworth was rock-solid before suffering a knee injury that has sidelined him indefinitely, as he didn't allow a sack, according to Pro Football Focus. It does sound like Whitworth plans on trying to play in 2021."Now I get an opportunity to lead in a different way while also rehabbing myself back ready to ride with my teammates!" he said in an Instagram post. However, he is not in a position to be the long-term answer at left tackle. He will be 39 at the start of next season.

    • While quarterback Jared Goff hasn't fallen off in a Carson Wentz-like manner, he has made frequent mistakes this season, including two interceptions in the Week 12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It would be smart for the Rams to bring in a veteran backup just in case Goff's inconsistencies continue.

    • Defensively, L.A. doesn't have any major needs, though it could benefit from adding another quality cornerback. Jalen Ramsey is a star, but Troy Hill has surrendered his fair share of big plays. He has allowed 437 yards and two touchdowns in coverage and an opposing passer rating of 97.5.

    • Unfortunately, spending big in free agency probably won't be an option.

Here’s my top 3 needs list, assuming that Floyd is not extended.

#1. Edge rusher
#2. Edge rusher
#3. ILB

If Floyd is extended (my hope) then edge on opposite side is still top need. NO one has demonstrated consistency and good health there so far.

A dominant ILB would transform Staley’s D and make it a nightmare for opposing O’s.

Desperately need a TE #2 who can block. Everett will be gone, and if Higbee doesnt turn it around, he could be too. Not sure what they think of Hopkins at this point, but its not a good look that he cant get on the field

That was said about Kiser too after his first year but he was showing huge improvement this year before getting hurt.

Hopefully Hopkins is in training mode right now and they are just okay with Higbee Everett and Mundt being the primary TEs right now

I agree. I like what Kiser has done so far this year but another ILB who dominates inside and have Kiser as the other guy or backup would be a huge improvement in this defense. I just think we will have a hard time finding one picking 64.

My list:

1. Center.
2. Blindside Edge (Edge in general becomes need #1 if they lose Floyd but I'm holding out hope they sign him).
3. WR.
4. CB (if RFA Williams is signed away this becomes need #2).
5. LT.

Only reason I have LT so low this time around is Whit's play has been amazing and Kromer sounds certain about having a guy in-house who can grow into the job. I'm skeptical but because Whit might be able to play another season on top of that it's below some other needs.

WR will be lessened if Jefferson can step up down the remaining stretch. But my concern is he's a shitty blocker and in this offense that's a problem. Rams will probably be on the prowl for a big X type wideout if one is available when they're picking.

And not gonna add RB to the mix because I think Akers is going to arrive during the remainder of this schedule. But if he doesn't and if nobody else steps up RB will be a need.

Also ILB is a need no doubt but not above the others IMO.

Lastly Center is top of the list because they're not gonna pay Blythe and need to upgrade at the pivot anyway. If they do retain him it will be very affordable and they still need to upgrade. So IMO it's our top team need.

Kiser at least played special teams and was dressed on Sundays. The TE's have been unspectacular this season and you'd think he'd at least get a look. There's no redshirt year in the pros

Center, OLT fast WR and a faster ilb. I don't care about the order because all four are needed upgrades. Its just that the two lineman make more impact in 2022, but you have to start picking them sometime to develop.

There are some good centers in this league that were not drafted very early but for some reason Snead can't find one. If Blythe leaves via free agency it will be a wing and a prayer that Shelton pans out. Drafting one in 2021 likely means they will be stuck with what they have because a new guy is less likely to step right in day one unless he's a guy like Fredrickson.

Kiser is playing well but he's not Warner or Wagner. An upgrade here could be huge for the defense.

Speed at WR would help the offense out, if the guy can catch well.

The OP article doesn't even mention Joe Noteboom. It makes me think that he just scanned the injury list and saw that Whit was injured and didn't watch any video of what Noteboom is doing. Compare Boom vs our former #2 overall Robinson and Boom is a stud.

I think we go after a LB, CB, OL definitely. Depending on how things go down the stretch TE or RB might become a need. If not this year then next year we will need to look at drafting a DL.

Regardless of what we do id just like for us to ease up on drafting guys that have a injury history. Maybe one guy like that per draft would be ok since that usually causes guys that would normally go on day one to fall to day two.

geez, the last 9 months I thought it stood for "Personal Protection Equipment"

seems to me that because we have no first rd picks we take a lot of players that have questions about some part of their play. it might be health, speed, size , lack of production or they are good at one part of the game but lacking at another. i just hope we can find some complete players at ilb (plays run and pass well), wr (has speed and good hands and size) and best center with size and nastyness. i'm not asking much but that would be a nice start.
