We are starting to see cracks in the Cap managing, draft formula theory. Depth and even starters at Safety are not adequate.
Disagree,

We have how many people out to injury in our secondary? Our two starters are probably out for next week, and obviously Burgess isn't 100%, so what that leaves us with two healthy backups? They probably thought it would be safer to bring in a vet that knows the system, vs. a PS guy who might be only halfway educated on the defense and only halfway competent in playing SS/FS in the NFL.

I assume he's purely there for depth incase of emergency. I still scratch my head at signing a guy like him tho, there has to be someone younger and better than him.

Gotta hope this was something that was being discussed for awhile as a possibility and that he has been preparing. Otherwise not sure how in the hell he could step in and play.

I think it's both.

Burgess and Long have not developed enough to contribute at a high level this year, they've been huge disappointments that they needed to step up this year.

And Rochelle just hadn't done anything before getting hurt. Maybe he'll step up this week?

They were already scraping by with Scott, DD and Long playing wayyyy too many snaps, imo, and injury has just made that worse.

They better keep their OL in tact in FA so they can make this a DB draft and maybe another ILB to play next to Jones... A real thumper.

Or add a DB in FA.

The Rams need the secondary help...but I don't see Weddle doing much unless someone gets injured.

The young guys Scott, Long, and Burgess have had their moments...so communication back there us gonna be key!!!

Rams are in desperate shape for safety help

We are in deep dodo
Desperate tines call for desperate measures. At least we know we're desperate and are desperately trying to respond. Better than pretending everything is ok.

Assume this may be for depth? but maybe we're even more desperate than that.

Did I mention how desperate we are?

Weddle may at least be able to call or relay signals and keep us out of disastrous coverage breakdowns. If he's in shape he still should be able to make some plays on the back end just by being in the right place.

I think the leadership and experience is what they are bringing in with Weddle. I don’t see him playing until we run out of roster options.

Yes but we may be there already. Who can actually play now? Who can relay/call the signals? What if Rapp is out?

This really has been the issue, we are to thin and I don't believe we were prepared for the level of efficiency that many would or would not provide. Even Reeder and Rapp are sometimes depended on too much. RR really needed more snaps to get to NFL caliber contributor level. We are in a pickle and it will take a real team effort

Don't let the blue font fool you, I love me some Weddle! ~ @Merlin
I'm still pissed at him about the whole "not gonna answer any questions about the Ravens defense" BS. Bastid.

But if this guy can give us a couple good games back there keeping dudes aligned properly then maybe we'll just be mostly fucked in the secondary instead of totally fucked.

Welp, our Dline will just have to make the midget uncomfortable all game so he can't see how effed we are back there.....

I think this is 3 things:

1) Desperation body if Rapp doesn't clear or someone else goes down,
2) Somebody to call the D and get it to whomever is wearing the green dot, so McVay doesn't have to rely on Morris for these decisions, and
3) Give the smart guy a chance to prove his stuff and maybe this is a McVay surprise addition to coaching staff next year... maybe even DC? Can't be worse, right?

Who know what their relationship has been since he left. Maybe he's been pitching a coaching gig?

Some Debbie downers in this thread. Yeah, he is old. Point taken. But we have 4 games. 4. I’m not sure how much of the field he will see - but Id rather have a veteran back there who will be in the right area code - even if a half step slower getting there than have the missed assignment.
