This years Rams are built on star power.

Hell the entire premise of our defense is essentially a bet that you can’t consistently run 10-12 play TD drives before AD/JR/VM/LF do something special. Now please I’m not looking for a defensive philosophy debate, what I’m getting at is this team is top heavy in terms of the way our money is allocated throughout the roster. Sure the entire team will need to contribute and the better the secondary players (as in non stars not the position group) are, less of a burden will be put on our big names but make no mistake we invested resources with the intention of our stars carrying our team.

Now by no means am I saying the loss of fuller and others is insignificant because it certainly complicates things and puts more pressure on our stars, but if we are to win a Super Bowl with this roster it was and was always going to be on the backs of AD, Jalen, Stafford, Kupp, Floyd, Von, and somewhat unexpectedly OBJ. They will need to play like the all world players they are for us to have a shot….it’s simply the way we allocated resources that demands this. Others will need to step up as it seems happens every year in the post season (I’m looking at you Sony/Cam) and the rest will need to limit mistakes and play solid football.

Well I don’t know about all that ? Your point is very well taken, but I always look at things a little deeper & value Ram players as a whole.

Robert Woods did not loss to The 8ers in 2021/22. He is a STAR & a mentor. He was the 2nd FA signed behind Whitworth in 2017. He is a guy that helped mentor Cooper Kupp from his rookie season. Those 2 have been tight. In training camp they come out as one. Cool to see there connection & brotherhood.(could go back on Ram mentoring).
Nick Scott & Greg Gaines both have cast on there hands & why a Weedle was brought in.
Gerald Henderson is imo a difference maker. He is electric & dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield.

Sony was a reason NE beat The Rams in the SuperBowl. He has helped carry The Rams as much as anyone. Cam Akers is just coming back. The run game is a big part of this team.

—Johnny Mundt is underrated loss & has been missed.

SJD69 was playing his beat football in 2021.He hasn’t been missed as much because of other guys stepping up.

Ernest Jones was coming into his own. He is in front of The Whole D”Front calling plays & taking ownership of this Rams team as a rookie. His INT’s & getting to the ball we’re improving.I kept thinking against the 8ers I wish he was in because he would get by those reverse counters.
RR31 was really becoming a big part of that Rams secondary.

My point being it is a team game & actually The Rams are lucky all those players you named a healthy.Stafford going down last week with a toe injury & being limited was Mcvay’s excuse for his play call on the 3rd & 1 before half.
Goff playing hurt & Kupp out didn’t help The Rams chances.Kupp again in 2018 & Gurley limited.CJ Anderson was a big part of The Rams run.The Rams have brought in so many excellent players under Mcvay.Yes they pay there veteran's & always have the youngest roster the last 10 years.
The Rams have also paid Tru,Littleton,J.Joyner & D. Williams this season. There was a lot of money tied up in those players as well.

I just can't help but think about how excited we were about our secondary at the beginning of the season. "Best in the league" IIRC. Ramsey, Darious Williams, Rochelle (stud athlete), Fuller, Rapp, T Burgess, etc, etc, etc. Now they are bringing back Eric Weddle. Who would have guessed that? -lol

Point being as well. Weedle cost how much & what players will The Rams put at risk. He is a guy Mcvay trust & knows. He is a veteran that will be excellent in the Lockeroom with a lot of passion to WIN.

OBj & Von Miller basically didn’t cost crap for The Rams. Kenny Young was the trade that opened up there arrivals. E. Jones was ready to step up.
Old Blue eye 51 will important.

It would be hilarious if he made a Mike Jones -like tackle to win a playoff game...lol
…Or a Jason Sehorn type play against the Panthers in the playoffs in double OT a few years ago, some might remember… :zany:

The best thing about Jason Sehorn was Angie Harmon, even though I preferred Sasha Alexander.

The Rams are not totally built on Star plAyers. If your talking salary cap. Von Miller & OBj did not cost The Rams much. Mcvay & Les Snead make it work. They have given up a lot for RAMsey & Stafford. Goff is still making more in salary though, which helped salary cap wise as well.

Von Miller cost nothing in cap. Just the trade value.
OBj cost $400,000

Denver & Cleveland paid there 2021 salary’s. Tyler Higbee is a big number in cap.

This is obviously a desperate move. That being said, how awesome is it to have a HC and team that players enjoy playing for so much they would unretire to play with again if asked to?

Man...
I'm praying that Rapp makes it out of protocol and that Burgess is.. somehow... ready to all of a sudden perform at a high level.
Really, REALLY could use Rochell as well.

What a nightmare.

I hate to sound negative here but I doubt Burgess will suddenly be good. And tbh if Burgess goes out there and plays well it won't reflect well on the defensive coaching when they subjected us to Rapp and Scott all fucking season.

That's my whole dig on Burgess. As bad as Rapp and Scott are in coverage he couldn't beat them out?

I think Burgess is a lot like Long. Good guy, good team player, not enough dog.

Changing my mind on Weddle. If he can help I'm okay with the signing. 5 on 5 full court pickup basketball, I played that up to age 38 before I moved to another state. The last year we used to play in Klum Gym and I always worked up a good sweat in that stuffy place, back when my waist was smaller Lol. Between games I'd go stand outside for a much needed breeze. Obviously very little contact compared to football though, but at least he's in some running shape if he played full court. The psychological and locker room stuff he'll bring could help too. I just read Ramswire so I know what Snead said he'll bring.

Exactly right.

The Rams have put both their money (already limited by eating cap space from previous deals) and their draft picks on the line to build a team around star players at key positions. The down side is lack of depth and the lack of high draft pick players other than the stars. Or you might say a lack of balance between the stars and some of the rest of the roster.

This year's playoffs will be in part a test of whether this win-now-with-star-players philosophy will succeed.

Like most of us, I am in favor of the future is now approach. But the jury's still out on whether it will play out as hoped.

I've been staying out of this thread but read every post.

I truly don't get the overreaction. Aside from the name recognition, this is just a meh signing.
