We are definitely small at corner. But I agree I'd rather be small at that position than shitty in coverage. Have to think that they will add some size next year in the draft. Because the teams with RAC threat types at wideout or a lot of size will be tough matchups for us.

Very good points and I agree! Just tired of small DBs when WRs and everyone are getting bigger is all!
I agree with you but he appears to be sticky. We do need bigger guys that can contest jump balls and can handle the physicality of Metcalf and Deebo.

Witherspoon is 6'2", Kendrick is 6'0", & Durant is 5'11".

So I do love me some Jalen Ramsey. Top Run defending CB in the NFL the last 2+ years. Top 5 jump ball defender. But how many times in the last 2 years did he get burned because he either was too aggressive or not able to stick with a receiver.

To answer your question, too many. And that's the primary reason he was no longer worth the huge money we were paying him.
Having said that I was definitely a big Jalen fan, but when you aren't able to cover like you did your value plummets big time.

It’s a pick up off the waiver wire. Not a 1st rnd draft pick.

It’s great value. He sounds like he could really contribute.

I wonder if McVay/Morris decide to just do a lot of blitzing this year. Hair on fire defense, considering we prob aren’t going to get much from the front seven in base.

Great point.

My main concern isn’t the same as everyone else’s though.
I’m more worried about stopping the run.

There is no worse football, than Rams football with a poor run defense.
Watching teams gash us for 6-7 yds a run, driving down the field and eating 8-10 minutes of clock. That just drives me insane. I hate it more than anything.

I’d much rather a team score quickly on us and get our offense back on the field.

Witherspoon is inconsistent. Kendrick is inconsistent. Durant dislikes contact.

What has this got to do with their size ? You do recall what the post was about, don't you ?

It's not the backfield being small that is going to give the Rams D fits, it's the D line. One guy over 300 lbs,Bobby Brown, and he's only on the field a third of the time. Rams are light in the pants up front on D.

How it applies to Witherspoon is his inconsistency means he probably won't be a regular starter. Ideally at least he'll be used when we need some size vs a third matchup and that draw isn't too demanding OR when you can protect him over the top in your calls.

Same goes for Kendrick.

Durant has size but he's gonna get muscled time to time vs certain draws. He is quality but has some holes in his game.

Bottom line is our corner group as a whole is a bit undersized and will be outphysicaled vs certain wideout groups.

Agreed. Being two deep (Durant & Tomlinson are quality) with interchanging CB3 role options is not that bad a place to be. It's not ideal but you can move shit around and with one inconsistent corner sometimes the coverage will be good when it counts. I'm not too worried about the secondary now, especially since they added JJ which makes safety feel good. So basically we're 4/5 there on the back end in terms of having starter level type players which is not bad at all given that we dealt Ramsey.

Defensive front feels like they're putting too much on AD to me. He will definitely make the rush way better than it should be. But getting to the actual rush downs will be the problem. But any game where they play the run well we should be competitive.

I admit I had no idea Ramsey was such a incredible tackler in the open field, pleasantly surprised

Witherspoon and Kendrick's heights are accurate, but I'd be shocked if Durant was 5'10". Nevertheless, I don't care that Durant's likely 5'9" or shorter; he's our best cornerback, as sticky as it gets, and unlike the others (Tomlinson only thus far), he doesn't take stupid penalties.

Point is, I can live with a non-physical corner. That's the only position on defense where one can afford a lack of physicality. But Durant is as good as it gets with everything else.

I think the coverage is going to be the best we've seen since 2020. In 2021 our defense was better overall due to the rush, but it masked some serious problems on the back end that got exposed last season. This should be a bounceback season in terms of just the coverage quality itself.

Of course the rush is still the most important thing in pass defense. But I really feel like when we do get into third and longs this defense should be solid.
