I’ve heard some personalities suggesting the Rams make their way back into the first round to fix the host of problems they have, of course this would mean trading somebody important, which would create one more hole to fill. Thoughts?
Nah, the situation with high draft picks hasn’t changed just because our circumstances have.
If we have a first round pick and there is no good deal to be had, then they should go ahead and make the pick.
Otherwise, I think it would be best if we could trade that first rounder for a high quality player with a proven track record.
Again, if the trade makes sense and has value, otherwise make the pick.

Donald is likely to retire after this season which would free up alot of cap space. Ramsey can be traded for draft picks. Stafford could retire freeing up even more cap to sign quality players. Lot's of moving parts going into the off season.

Lose three of your four best players/leaders and this dumpster fire of a season is likely to become the norm.

I agree; and an excellent point on Whitworth. I posted yesterday that a lot of "Experts" thought Whitworth was done when the Rams signed him; and he was just taking a final big pay-check from a desperate team.

However, I would argue that re-signing Noteboom was "taking a shot". His talent is good enough for solid-LT-play but his lack of durability was (and certainly is) a major risk and concern.

I'm really big on What is Realistic given the Market and Cap Limitations. So what are the Rams options at LT?

Maybe they take a swing at Andre Dillard. Philadelphia drafted him in the 1st Round to be its starting LT but he was beaten-out by a 7th Rounder (Jordan Mailata). I loved Isaiah Wynn coming out of Georgia and was hoping the Rams would move-up into the 2nd Round and select him (they had no #1 or #2 in 2018). However, New England drafted Wynn late in the 1st Round; and he lost the LT spot ... and the RT spot.

The other pending free agent LTs seem pretty pedestrian. And none of these guys will sign for the veteran minimum because half the teams in the NFL need O-Line help.

So then there's the Draft. I did a quick check of the First Round Left Tackles selected between 2017 and 2021. It Ain't an overly impressive group.
Jedrick Wills and Rashawn Slater are the best. Tristan Wirfs and Penei Sewell are really good but have only played Right Tackle thus far. Christian Darrisaw looks pretty good but after that, the best are Garrett Boles, Kolton Miller, Cam Robinson, Jonah Williams and Anthony Thomas. That's pretty much it for good LTs taken in Round 1 for a 5-year-period; and most of those guys were drafted in the top-half of the Round.

The Rams will likely have a pick between the mid-30's and mid-40s; plus another in the late-60s-to-mid-70's. They may have cap space for one or two expensive free agents but most teams will have more $ to spend.
Thanks for this informative break down. Seems like a really deep hole to dig ourselves out of at this point.

This is something you have to plan for. No one plays forever!

'likely'!!!

Not suggesting it "Can't" happen. Not saying it "Won't" happen.

But 'Likely' to happen!?! ... Really!?!?!

Donald has a dead cap of 44 mil in 2023, Ramsey 32 mil, and Stafford dead cap is 49.5 mill
How are they freeing up cap space again?

I don’t see why, they sweetened his contract without adding years which is unusual. AD doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to just quit because the season has gone down the toilet, especially after the FO basically just gave him money so he would stick around.

The way this season is going, their 2nd round pick is going to be like a very late 1st round pick. Top 5 Day 2 pick !

Actually I would move back from what looks like will be a pick around 37 to say 47 and get an extra 3rd.

Now if a guy falls to that 37th pick, who they love, then take him, otherwise I get another top 80 pick if possible.

The more top 125 picks the better. So take some of your 5's & 6's and move up to the 4th as well.

Yeah, and then there's Mahomes and Josh Allen. And Parsons.
14 % of all drafted players even make a roster

and about 50% of 1st round picks are busts.

The ram's strategy of trading 1st round picks for proven players makes a lot of sense.

And it WON us a Super Bowl. Kudos. Now is the time to build in a more traditional method. Especially since we need to start eyeing our next Drafted Franchise Quarterback.

There is some thought though, that if McSnead can find talent in rounds 3-7, couldn't they find a few gems in the 1st round? Orlando Pace was a #1 pick and he was a cornerstone for the greatest show on turf.

We need a quality LT. I don't trust Boom. He's been injury prone and we can't count on him to last the whole season.

We also need another edge and it's hard to quantify but we need someone who is a "whiner killer".

Looks like OBJ is off to Dallas or elsewhere at this point.
Agreed. I mentioned we needed a quality LT once and several posters corrected me saying it wasn’t necessary, that we had plenty of worthy replacements. Losing Big Whit to retirement was huge and ’Boom hasn’t proven to be very durable.

Add- how about those Trojans!!

Williams for Heisman. Maybe The Rams get him once they get a 1st. Rd. Pick. LMAO

I swear — anyways . What do I know.Just think we have to believe in Sean Mcvay & Les Snead.

Funny how Les Snead talks about winning in April. The last 2 years The Rams have got DESTROYED!!! Les Snead got blown out!!

How The NFC WEST was lost. Poor drafting & lack of draft picks. Having to pay up for Awesome Productions.

Add Jared Goff & Gurley still hurt where The Rams are at & 2020 Cam Akers (Jefferson,Lewis) has to produce
