Honestly? If one or more of Whittington, Mumpfield, or Daniels perform, we may not need to draft a receiver in next year's class, even if Davante leaves. We just have to re-sign Nacua to a long-term extension.

EDIT: Or even one of our other undrafted receivers: Tru Edwards, Brennan Presley, or Mario Williams could make some noise, especially if they can return punts/kicks.

He's definitely got the potential. But I'm not sure he'll be the WR3 in his rookie season. Whittington and Mumpfield have more time in the system. I do think his ceiling is higher than theirs. But it might take some time.

Or you just add a vet along the lines of Demarcus Robinson. Not him in particular, but a solid vet like him.

Maybe. My money would be on Mumpfield based on way too early convos and Davante seemingly talking him up. More than likely we'll have a fairly even split between several players as our third receiver. Assuming 13 personnel is kept as a huge part of our offense there will not be a true wr3 in my opinion. Just a bunch of WRs and TEs getting 250-500 yards after Puka/Adams.

I'd rather just see what the kids can do. Davante loves Mumpfield. Daniels was highly regarded by the Rams (trading three picks, albeit late round picks, to take him). Whittington is going into his third year, where wide receivers prototypically break out or show you who they really are.

And Tru Edwards is a personal favorite of mine as far as UDFAs: insane catch radius, bigger than a lot of our receivers (6'3", 211 lbs.), productive in his final year in college, has experience on special teams, and has NFL bloodlines (Troy Edwards, a really good receiver in his own right who won the 1998 Biletnikoff award, is his dad and also played a season with us.). Mario and Presley also are interesting receivers in their own right, and all three of those UDFA receivers scored a meaningful touchdown in the last preseason.

No, I'd rather let the kids show what they can do. Unless it's a receiver who is around that 25/26 years old range, I'm fine with rolling with who we have.

As some have said (?WestCoast, IIRC) Terrance Ferguson seemed like WR3 last year. 21.0 ypc. He had 25 targets, exactly the same as Whittington, 1 more than Xavier Smith (who seems to have been forgotten due to a fumbled PR) and 2 more than Mumpfield. The 6th most targeted guy was Davis Allen (33), so from 1 (Puka) to 6 there are just 2 WRs. How many targets do we expect our #3 WR to get?

I admit, I'm still extremely bitter over that. That's why I've been forgetting X: because I wish I could forget.

I agree with the rest. Ferguson and Klare could be elite receiving tight ends at their apex. Parkinson, Higbee, and Allen are still there, too.

And running back is absolutely stacked as well. Only worry on offense is the whole A-Jax thing (for another thread); I really love the offense other than that.

Me too, Daniels is probably WR5 opening week

Yeah so he's working out. Great. We'll see if he can push the depth chart but he's gonna have Whit, Mump, and Smith ahead of him.

One thing he's got going in his favor is the size for outside the hash. But this kid's basically got a year one redshirt coming.

Sure, in a perfect world that would be great. I was talking about next year IF only one of the young guys step up. Add a vet to be a reliable #3, assuming a young guy can grab that #2, and no one else stands out. Even more so if nobody stands out.

I've watched a lot of workout videos. Sorry, nothing in this video stands out to me. I like Daniels and think he will be a great addition. I would rather watch him in pads in preseason games.

Again, I have no problem with grabbing a vet...but I believe that the vet has to be in the age twenty-five/twenty-seven age range. I'd rather not spend on an older vet that will take time away from the younger receivers that deserve to have a chance to prove themselves.

Thus far, we have two excellent receivers. If even one steps up and grabs the eyes of the coaches (and there's three receivers that have the chance to do that at this time in Whitt, Mumps, and Daniels, not even mentioning Tru, Mario, Presley, Tyler Scott - whom I admittedly forgot about; he's a speedster we signed and will turn twenty-five in October - and, big sigh, X, I suppose could have a bounce-back campaign and make up for his massive mistake.), we will still likely have at least one very good receiver aside from Puka (whom, yes, I wish to re-sign).

I'm admittedly looking more on the positive side. I do think that one or more receivers step up, and I would not take a chance on an older vet unless he was really good. Like, as good as what Davante was last year.

I personally think Whittington has reached his ceiling. He's ok... just not gonna get any better. I still have high hopes for Mumpfield and CJ Daniels though, and you never know how well the other UDFA's have developed since last year.

I mostly agree that we know what we have in Whit and it is a solid WR in specific packages. Not a bad thing at all.
Mumps can hopefully take some steps to be a bigger part of the offense and that too would be a great benefit.
CJ seems to be the most polished and complete straight out of college but lots of road ahead before we know what we have.

Correct - we know what we have with Whittington and Xavier Smith. Average depth players. We’ll find out what we have with Mumpfield (best bet to contribute significantly) this year and Daniel’s by next year.

I know I'll get a lot of hate for this, but Deebo. He's a McVay type who plays fearless with great RAC and can still play at a #2 or #1 level in an emergency. We all love Adams but we need to accept the reality that he's going to be 34. Puka also plays a reckless style where he will get banged up. I get the whole TE thing and love Mumpfield, but we lack depth especially if one or both of our top two goes out. Someone needs to step up or come in as a #3, but the reality is whoever that is will very likely also be a part time #2 or even #1 due to injuries. I don't see anyone on the roster capable of that - yet. Deebo can.
