Goff can win a Super Bowl. You can pin the SB loss on McVay as much as Goff. Terrible game plan and adjustments IMO.
Far worse QBs have won a Super Bowl, maybe even some multiple SB winners are not as good as Goff (Plunket ?)
I do not think it was impossible for Goff to win the game we did win.
The time when we are paying will be when Stafford retires and Goff is at the top of his game.
We just might wish we had kept him.
They better find a great next QB.
None of what I said takes anything away from what Stafford has done. He is a stud.

If you think there's a guy in the draft available to you who can elevate your team, you just take him and figure out the Goff thing in a couple of years.
The roster advantage of a rookie QB doesn't really matter if he's not significantly better than Goff, imo.. and you can't guarantee that with many QBs.

Where did I say or even infer a guarantee? I literally said, "bet". You continue to read my and others' posts with a level of aggression and then drop a smarty pants reply while egging your own face. When will you learn?:seahawk:

The whole point about this thread should be about the contract not who is better between Stafford and Goff

I think it is a fair contract because

1) It is only 4 years
2) The amount will only hurt the Lions in possibly year 3 and probably year 4

Why - the majority of the best players on the lions are second or third year players except for left tackle and center

As a result, the lions have at minimum a 2 year maybe 3 year window to win the super bowl

Goff showed last year that he can bring a team to the superbowl with the offense he has.

All he needs is a decent defense.

31 points should win almost every game you play.

Their defense especially their secondary sucked last year. Their offense was winning the games.

This year, I say they have a much better defense and they are going to be a tough out with that offense.

I can see the Rams and Lions in the championship game.

Either way we're probably gonna have to go through them to get to a sb. The niners too. Shit with our luck probably both.

Purdy is a damn good qb but I wouldn't put him over Goff or Stafford rn. Both of them are asked to do way more than purdy. Lurdy barley even throws. Purdy has a better team than both the lions and the rams.
I’m just using your rules.
He beat Goff in the playoffs, so he’s better.
No one “does more”.. you can’t “cherry pick” a few plays or silly things like rosters & schemes.

Again…. Your rules.

Me? Using the same standards I have, including isolating QB play., actual throws.. looking at protection… how open targets are.. I feel like Goff outplayed Purdy.

But… like you said… who won?
Purdy, so he’s the better QB.

Oh, my..
if you think my response to you is aggressive, you must live in a safe space.
And no GM or owner is making that bet because they have a guarantee of a 30 year old, healthy QB who, if not for a couple of bad bounces, would’ve been in the Super Bowl.

Make an argument. Don’t whine.

It literally matters.
It’s the QB making throws.
Yea...and our qb didn't make the throws to win while the other one did. Expecting Stafford to get td instead of fgs in the rz is not unreasonable. We were not gonna beat the lions settling for fgs in the rz.

Whatever floats your boat pal. You've already proven your bias your inability to be logical. Trying to use 2 completely different games to try to make a point doesn't even begin to make sense. Things happened in that gm that was outside of what a qb can control. The same can't be said for our game unless you want to bring missed calls in the mix which we benefited from too.

He threw 2 TDs.
Goff threw one.

The Lions ran it in behind one of the best 2 lines in the NFL.

You’re confusing the Rams RZ issues with who’s the better QB.

Stafford had more TDs & almost 100 yards more.

If you’re arguing Goff is better… then you’re arguing Purdy is better.

Can’t have it both ways.

If you’re reducing the entirety of QB play to a team’s RZ success, I don’t know that you’re getting much traction.

I’m completely logical and rational.

That’s why I use the same standards when evaluating actual QB play. You’re the one being subjective and arbitrary. Your ONLY arguments are game result and RZ success.

Stafford threw more TDs and had more yards than Goff.. but.. somehow.. Goff was better.

Lmao even outside that gm goff has been better. Just look at his stats the past 2 seasons. Dude had 5 incompletions the entire game, went 3/3 in the rz and literally ended our season with his arm and our run gm was more efficient then his was....but Stafford is better. Yea you're living in the past. Stafford gonna have to prove that to me because the last 2 seasons he simply hasn't been better. If you and others think he's better atm ok cool. Just know I don't think so and I have clear reasons why and don't think it's unreasonable to think so.

Goff outplayed Stafford, and the Lions won the game. It happens, some times the better QB doesnt win.
It's simple, 5 minutes left in the game, Rams down 1 with the ball on Detroit 40 yard line and Staff couldnt get them in to FG position.
Conversely, with 4 minutes to go, against a stacked box Goff converted for first downs twice to run out the clock. That's what won the game.
Heck, we all saw Goff outplay Mahomes in the game of the century, certainly didnt mean he was the better QB.

No...no you’re not and that's been proven in this thread. If you actually read the thread my argument is winning and production and guess who has won more and produced more since the sb? Goff has. By a landslide.

I can make the same argument for Purdy over Goff.

Stafford was better than Goff last season. The Lions had a better offense over the course of the season, but maybe go back and look at both teams in the second half of the 2023 season. Once Williams was healthy and the line was set, the Rams offense was a machine. They lost one game in the second half of the season.. and that was in OT, on the road against the Ravens.
The Lions lost three games over the same time span to Green Bay, Chicago and Dallas.

For some reason, you think Stafford is over the hill. Why? I have no idea.. anyone who watches can tell, he's not. Again.. show me any throws that Goff makes that are as difficult as the one's I showed you. And then I'll pull up 5 more from Stafford.. The Puca diving catch at Baltimore.. the Puca sideline catch against Pittsburgh.. want great QB play? Audible call against Cleveland to nail Puca for the long TD.

You, for some reason, seem to think Goff is more than he is. Maybe you didn't like the trade.. Idk.. but you certainly aren't evaluating actual QB play.

Goff and the entire team were injured and a mess after WINNING A SUPER BOWL.
But.. you'd like to start the clock after the Super Bowl.
Nope.
You want recency? Look at the second half of last season.. production and success. If Williams isn't hurt, maybe the Rams are hosting a playoff game.. who knows? And, yes.. it's a valid argument because the Lions were healthy and stacked.

You don't seem to want to look at actual QB play.

Haven't seen you once address the Goff brain-fart backward throw. I know why.. it's because you know it's exactly the symptom that Goff critics point to.. and you are going to stand on a hill defending it because the ball bounced into a Lion's hands and not a Rams player. That's nonsense and is not evaluating actual QB play. Nonsense.

It's amazing.

I remember after Muhammad Ali regained the heavyweight championship (very rare in those days) by knocking out the seemingly invincible George Foreman. Even after that there were still some die-hard critics who tried to rationalize away his success even when all evidence said the guy could actually fight pretty damn good.

Some people will just hold on for dear life to their preconceived notions, no matter the evidence to the contrary.
That's actually a pretty good analogy. I remember those days and was even one of the Ali critics. Looking back I was obviously wrong.

Difference is that I think people genuinely disliked Ali for his brashness, the name change, draft dodging, rope a dope, etc... I don't think people dislike Goff but some of the criticism he gets is a bit on the irrational side.
