Just because you give to NGO’s doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. There are a ton of NGO’s right now that help unfound our nation.I'm sure there are all sorts of historical tribal stories - some good, some indifferent and some bad... But my recent experience with the locals here has been great.
How do you be a good neighbor - well one way is to give back to the community and they do that in spades. I am aware many folks are down on the gambling attraction - -but, as I see it, it is purely voluntary. There is no need to gamble, if you just want a decent meal out, also.
Back to the giving back aspect - the tribe gives back to local non-profits, local government and NGO's - probably to the tune of several million per year. They have supported local food banks and even delivered a fire truck to a fire district. Priced one of them lately? HA!
Above all the property is welcoming and in good design. They provide jobs in construction, gaming, food and security services. Good business attracts more businesses - to that end, a Costco just opened and soon there will be several other eating establishments including a brew pub and some fast food places, like an In-N-Out burger (despised by a few, heralded by many). So, after not having a quality restaurant within 10 miles of us - we now have several within 2 miles. The way I see it - they rejuvenated the local economy, which is something government claims they are for - but have never adequately delivered on that promise. (One can say that gaming takes money from people - but they are pikers compared to government!)!
We have met many that work there, and several tribal members. Our experience has been positive and we appreciate the huge investment they make back into the community.
I like 'em!
And those people deserve to be in prison for conspiracy of committing felonies at the very least.
