I'm sure there are all sorts of historical tribal stories - some good, some indifferent and some bad... But my recent experience with the locals here has been great.

How do you be a good neighbor - well one way is to give back to the community and they do that in spades. I am aware many folks are down on the gambling attraction - -but, as I see it, it is purely voluntary. There is no need to gamble, if you just want a decent meal out, also.

Back to the giving back aspect - the tribe gives back to local non-profits, local government and NGO's - probably to the tune of several million per year. They have supported local food banks and even delivered a fire truck to a fire district. Priced one of them lately? HA!

Above all the property is welcoming and in good design. They provide jobs in construction, gaming, food and security services. Good business attracts more businesses - to that end, a Costco just opened and soon there will be several other eating establishments including a brew pub and some fast food places, like an In-N-Out burger (despised by a few, heralded by many). So, after not having a quality restaurant within 10 miles of us - we now have several within 2 miles. The way I see it - they rejuvenated the local economy, which is something government claims they are for - but have never adequately delivered on that promise. (One can say that gaming takes money from people - but they are pikers compared to government!)!

We have met many that work there, and several tribal members. Our experience has been positive and we appreciate the huge investment they make back into the community.

I like 'em!
Just because you give to NGO’s doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. There are a ton of NGO’s right now that help unfound our nation.
And those people deserve to be in prison for conspiracy of committing felonies at the very least.

My Grandmother was 100% First Nation. I have always loved and respected the Redskins name for the Washington football team. The name was given out of the same (love and respect).

The actual person the logo was created after was Blackfeet Chief- John Two Guns White Calf. It was created with, and to, honor him and all of the First Nation People. The Blackfeet Tribe is very upset that it was changed and they are wanting it to be brought back and are leading the cause to have that done.

Totally agree - I will say most giving supports activities that directly impact and/or improves peoples lives such as school districts, boys/girls clubs, local housing authorities, emergency services, food banks and so on... I have seen one NGO that I consider suspect.

OTOH - it is their money and in 7 years have distributed over $28 million to charities. For an entertainment center, located among and between 2 communities that total less than 25,000 people, $28 million is quite the game changer.

Talking to a Commodes fan I've known for a long time he mentioned there was something written into the new stadium proposals to change the name back.

I am canadian so it may be different but native people here truly despise that name — they don’t have an issue with the chicago blackhawks as it honours a specific group. Idk a slur as a team name is just too much much for me.

Either way they won’t go back to that name anyway

The only reason I'll be okay with the name change back is because the mods will finally, FINALLY acknowledge the travesty that is editing the word "comm - ander". There is no reason it should've been turned to "commode". None. It is a common fucking word, and there is no reason that my complaints on that should've been ignored for about two fucking years.

Again, I have no issues with "49ers" being rebranded as "69ers" or "Seahawks" to "Seahags" or "Patriots" to "Cheatriots", or Sean Asshole Face to Asshole Face. That all is perfectly fine. But the editing of a common word that I often use is irksome.

You know who you are.

@RamFan503 @Selassie I @CGI_Ram

EDIT: I apologize for being short-tempered. I just feel like that complaint was ignored; nobody talked to us about it.

Is it possible to take a name invented as a slur and use it to honor and respect? I don’t know the answer to that but most institutions stay away from any indigenous nicknames anymore.

Remind me to tell my favorite Native American joke soon.
A guy boarded a plane and sees he’s assigned a seat next to this hot chick. He’s thinking to himself, man I gotta talk to her. He sees she’s reading a book.

The guy asks that book looks interesting what are you reading. The lady replies, it’s a book about penises. It’s quite good. It says here the Native Americans have the longest penis while Jews have the thickest.

The guy says, “Oh, that is interesting.” She says, “By the way, my name is Sarah.”

“White Feather Goldstein, nice to meet you.”

I got them to change the Chargers to the Squatters once. For some reason they changed it back. I'm still upset about that.

They'd probably buy the jerseys, get drunk, and support them.

The way I see it, if Native Americans are the ones in favor of returning to Redskins then it should be fine. I know a few Native Americans from work and when Snyder was resisting changing the name they agreed with him.
