So next gen has him at 8th in the league and this has him 17th. Does anyone know where this guy's data is from? NextGen is used by all the NFL teams.

Looks like everyone on the board is gonna go have to go back and watch every snap at center in 2025 now.

Umm... let me know how that goes.
And PFF had him 19th. IMO it doesn't really matter these ratings are tools not a defining metric.

I will say, I think I may have made a mistake with McClendon that I moved away from with Shelton... I concentrated more on play that didn't wow me than what stats were saying and while I generally think that when stats and anecdotes compete, you go with the anecdote... oline play is a little different than elsewhere. A win/block is a success no matter how it looks, even if a guys being pushed back to within a foot of the QB so maybe it's worth being open to not being absolutely wowed by some of these guys if they succeed in the block consistently or at a league high rate.

Rams had #1 yardage offense in the League last year. Rams had #1 scoring offense. Stafford had MVP season. Shelton was the "conductor" of the OL.

Ability to make accurate line calls is of course NOT a stat and is hard to quantify on film. Shelton was doing something right to contribute to all that.

I for one would be shocked if Shelton is replaced or gets beaten out. He will be our starting center again next year.

Dedich played Center in college with six starts.
Since he's a game day active, he should be the backup Center I would think.
Actually kind of ideal size for a Center at 6'2 and 310.

Also, it feels like people are just kinda done with Limmer. There's a chance he could develop the mental part of the game so maybe we don't have to worry about bringing in a center. Let's see what happens!
IDK he looked awful this year and was unplayable.

If you have an argument where you're critical of his play, share it with us and let people see if they agree with your reasoning. And maybe recognize that it's not binary between he's great and he sucks.
Get off your high horse. I acknowledged just recently in one of two other threads, perhaps in both of them, that he does a good job with the calls, and in tandem. He is a liability on his own.

Rams have enough irons in the fire this offseason to where they probably let Shelton play it out in '26. I even acknowledged it is unlikely the Rams make this move.

For the multiple time it's just how I'd do it. You could remake this line a bunch of different ways from where the Rams are right now. And again, that is the conversation. Are the Rams planning something here? Probably not, but this is a great window if they aren't sure of their dudes.

I think 152 was traded back to the Titans in exchange for McCreary and our original 6th (it originally traded to the Titans, so we got it back).

Our first pick after 93 is pick 167 as of right now. That will drop once comp picks are announced.
I stand corrected. Not sure Coogan will last to early R5 so Rams would have to trade up. But I like him.

How about

Austin Schlottmann - Free agent center from NYG?

He was 13th of 41 centers in run blocking according to PFF - Shelton was 7th.
He was 4th of 41 centers in pass blocking according to PFF - Shelton was 36th

He allowed 0 sacks, 0 hits and just 3 hurries in 212 pass sets this past season.
He is with his 3rd team in 6 years and seems to be improving.

He seems like a good FA signing that would be good OL depth?
He played for $1.4mil last year, so would be a "cheap" signing, but huge if Shelton had to miss any time?

Shelton is a rag doll when he goes against 300+ NT's like Vita Vea. If it wasn't for Avila and Dotson covering for him, Stafford would probably still be in a hospital.

What centers don’t get beat up one on one by these guys?

I know you can’t put all your faith in a PFF rating but while Coleman is serviceable and (dare I say) consistent - he’s the weak link in pass protection. Which requires help from the OGs. So the old “ the chain is as strong as its weakest link” adage. I wouldn’t mind an upgrade this year to give Staff every advantage.

Don't know about Austin Schlottmann. Would not consider him an up-grade.

Live in NYC, and see all the Giants' games. Schlottmann is a career back-up at guard and center; and was signed by NY for depth. He started 4 games last year when the Giants' starting center (Schmitz) was injured.

Schlottmann and Coleman Shelton are the same age (31 for 2026). Both have played seven years in the NFL ... Shelton as 66 career starts ... Schlottmann has 17 (3 less than Shelton had in 2025 counting the playoffs).

I am not a PFF fan ... Schlottmann had 360 snaps in 2025 ... Shelton had almost four-times that (1,120 snaps).

Don't see that adage applying here because our "chain" was a top 3 one. It sounds to me, that once again, we're overrating the physical aspect of the position and underrating the mental part.

As has been pointed out in this thread, most of the centers in the league require help from the OGs. The most important part is, are people blocking the right person, is he making the right pass pro calls, etc?

Colton is staying and starting in 2026. Months hats just the way it is. They will not be getting a FA center.

Now drafting a guy to takeover next year is a real possibility. That’s the hope for those (like me) desiring a top OC. Unless they have a guy internally developed that they like. There are a good amount of draft and develop 1-2 years OC in this draft. That’s the realistic hope.

That's like the perfect abbreviation for Coleman Shelton ... Coleman Shelton

Much better than the alternative ... Man-She ... Coleman Shelton

Man-She would not work at all.

Nextgen has him as 8th best in pressure rate last year... so we got some stat on stat crime.
