Goff!! Goff will start at FS!

I kid. I kid.

Guys, let's assume we can't come up with a free safety in this draft (a very real possibility), and until I hear otherwise, I don't see Joyner moving there. Also, I think you halve TJ's effectiveness if you move him there....

So, can either of these two cut it? I thought I heard each flashed last year in camp...

Davis has earned a shot. I seem to remember @CoachO being quite high on him from camp reports (not 100% sure of this though).

Best man wins IMO. But Davis has more experience and Fisher favors the more experienced players. So it probably ends up being Cody, unless the Rams draft a safety like Houston-Carson in round 4. But they probably go WR/TE. I just hope they don't force the pick because there will be better Safeties and corners than there will be WR/TEs in round 4.

I really like both of them, for slightly different reasons. Davis has speed, tackling ability and seems like a smart, level-headed guy (his old blog is here:
http://thestudentofthegame.blogspot.co.uk/

He was on the pro-bowl ballot as a special teamer, scored a touchdown on a int return against KC and caught a pass from Hekker on a fake punt at GB.

Bryant is a fighter, coming back from the broken ankle that wrecked his final season at Ohio State, causing him to slip to the 7th round, and to miss his first nfl season. He was the Buckeyes defensive captain, and a real leader by example:

It looked last year as if he was healthy again and starting to make an impression.

I'm happy to see both of them get a shot at the job.

Rams coaches have said over and over again, they don't play their safties "strong" and "free". Its more "left" and "right". First one off the bench when TJ went down was Mo Alexander, and he started 5 games. I have to assume Mo will be in the mix. Davis is more of a special teamer. Bryant is the darkhorse, and I expect him to get a lot of playing time in preseason.

Still no word on Donte Whitner signing with rams?

Please anybody but Davis. The guy lacks instincts and sucks in coverage. Physically he has everything you want
Speed
Size
Strength
But it doesn't transfer to the field. He's a great back up and he's very good on special teams. I have my fingers crossed that Bryant can surprise but I will not hold my breath.

AFAIK, the whole left and right safety thing was said before we started running a ton of defenses with Barron in the box. But, if we still throw the FS label out the window, Bryant still compliments TJ and Barron better than Davis does. He also plays the same type of game that Rodney played.

I think both could step in and fill the role well, this is the camp battle I'm looking forward to the most. Throw Joyner and the depth at Saftey in and I think we draft a corner before we draft a safety.

I agree about Christian Bryant maybe having the better instincts and more likely of the two.

Although Cody has great speed, I like him in ST and worry he would become Craig Dahl 2.0. As I said, I like him and would rather he not receive that abuse.

I still think ultimately something surprising happens in the backfield in the next few weeks, rendering this debate moot.

I'm a huge Christian Bryant fan. He had a rough start early, but he was really coming on later with reps.

I like Davis in a reserve roll, personally, but it's best if they earn it at camp. Best guy wins!
I agree with you Mack I'm a huge CB fan and think he will finally have a level playing field to show what he can do this year! I was a huge fan of the pick and absolutely love his instincts! I fully expected him to step in once the news of McLeod departing was heard. He's going to turn some heads this year IMO.

I believe TJ starts at FS next year. He's far better in space than he's given credit for IMO and is a far better option than either of those two. He's also a better option than Joyner, who is going to be busy owning the slot.

I agree complete! But I do lean toward Davis!!

I'd love to see someone with some instincts in getting to the ball. McLeod always underwhelmed and it'd be nice to see someone with range back there and the ability to snag a few picks. Atogwe still around?
