I'm admittedly a little surprised that Garrett wasn't even signed to the practice squad (personally would've chosen him over the DE T.J. Carter because we're a lot thinner at outside linebacker - with Lewis being a potential injury waiting to happen and Hardy out for at least four games - than we are at defensive line - with guys like Hoecht, Williams, and Copeland as backups with Elijah Garcia and Earnest Brown IV on the practice squad), but McSnead get the big bucks to make these decisions, not me - and thank holy fate they do; I probably wouldn't have gotten us to the playoffs, let alone win the Super Bowl.

I honestly think it was more mental(ME) , is more of the reason
got cut.I had him all fired up ready
to go against Joe Noteboom on 1 on 1’s.
I swear Mcvay heard it & saw what was going on towards the end of the drill. Mcvay didn’t like something & the play call was taking a little long.
It was weird because both players were locked in. I kept going get him Garrett.Come on Chris you’ve got him.
The play was right at the endzone in front of a crowd.Sean Mcvay called for the next drill, but as he did it he came up behind Noteboom & said that’s it. Play over next drill.
Dude(Garrett) has talent, but I don’t think he is a WE player.Mcvay really plays into that. IMO B. Hopkins was in Mcvay’s Dog House. He just had to much talent & higher contract(draft pick).
Whitley has more heart & drive. He has more size as well, plus is going to play special teams.
D. Hardy as well, plus he is going to play more cover at OLB.He has that speed & agility to do that.
—Chris Garrett is a pure Pass Rusher who doesn’t have the right size to hold up on the edge cs the run. He also disappears a lot on the field. Doesn’t dial in & stay focused snap in & snap out.

I think this guy is deserving of his own thread.

He looked like a developing monster in preseason last year.

And now he gets cut and isn't even invited back for the practice squad!

Thoughts?

A monster??? This sounds like one of my grandpa's fishing stories.
The dude had one good game in preseason last year. And the reason why was because the left tackle for the other team left him unblocked for like 3 or 4 plays in a row.

I agree, great thread but I had to chuckle at some of the comments! Gee, don’t shoot the messenger :)

If he is not picked up he will most definitely (almost certainly) be placed on the practice squad. Don’t take my word for it. Take McVay’s (from last year) and Snead’s in the interview that followed roster cuts

McVay, 2021: ‘He’s a young player that has a lot of upside, but he’s still continuing to learn’

View: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CYL1GksdHWE

Snead, 2022: ‘He’s got some juice... rushing the passer’ ... but, because of injuries, needs to continue developing his all around game...

I can’t help thinking he is better prospect than some already on the PS, don’t you agree?

I was surprised and a little disappointed Garrett did not make the roster, or the Practice Squad ... Yet.

However, he's already passed through Waivers (yesterday), and was not picked-up or signed anywhere.

Daniel Hardy will go on Injured Reserve with a return-designation; and that will open a roster-spot on the 53. There has been some speculation on this Board, that Garrett will be re-signed. Jourdan Rodrigue has suggested Benton Whitley would move-up from the PS. That would open-up another PS-spot.

Great post. Perhaps he needed some time to reflect if he is to grasp the nettle. With his talent he should be someone we wish to develop but perhaps as you say he hasn’t displayed the right attitude

Hardy to IR but can now return after 4 weeks because he was on the initial 53. Perhaps now they sign Garrett to the practice squad? If not, they must be looking for another OLB but a better option seems unlikely at this point

With a spot available now on the PS, we'll soon see if the Rams still have hope for Garrett or not. I could see it go either way....

Why do you guys keep saying there's a spot available on the Practice Squad?

Hardy was on the 53. There's an open spot on the 53-man-roster.

Now if someone comes-off the PS to replace Hardy on the 53, then there will be an open spot on the PS. Jourdan Rodrigue hinted that Benton Whitely would come-off the PS and be added to the 53-man-roster to replace Hardy.

I am hoping for Garrett to the 53 to replace Hardy.

A lot of people on this forum overrate Rams players. They feel every player has Pro Bowl potential.
True...if you watch other pre-season games, a lot of teams have young, raw, promising pass rushers trying to make their team. These guys shine against 2nd string OLs that just might not match up with a raw athlete like that, but vet starters can. So these young edge guys need a lot of development and there are plenty out there and few figure out how to beat those savvy vets.

I drink the kool-aide more often than I should. I wouldn’t go that far though.

Chris Garrett has had flashes of that type of potential. There have been way to many times he doesn’t play with a lot of fire in his belly.

I try to evaluate players fairly.Chris Garrett messed himself up BADLY,because he CHOSE himself over team & was an Anti-VAX player. 1 out of 53. He made The Rams SuperBowl 2021 roster out of training camp.

The Fact he got Covid & it effected his health at the worst stage of being an NFL Player. If he doesn’t get COVID that would have changed things for his career IMO.

We all know A. ROD from GB didn’t get Vaxed & how he was looked upon.I’m not judging him on his decision as much as the results & effected him & The Rams.

Mcvay is a WE type coach & when your a ME player you become a NFL Ram Player. They find away to move that player off the roster in all different ways.

The thing about The Rams organization is they respect there players as people & stick to WE & don’t sell there players out.

Todd Gurley is a perfect example. Here on ROD posters were not allowed to talk about him. Then when we did some were looked (me) down on like it was CRAZY.
I started a post that was Trade Todd Gurley. I thought The Rams really miss played that one.I’m not a Ram Fan that says this guy can’t play & is injury prone. At least to a certain point.

Anyways- moving on. Chris Garrett has to prove himself.I was a Snyder HATER,but saw some nice skills he had. AJ Arcuri though I believe will be a good NFL player & not sold on Brusss as much ? Hard call grading O’Lineman.

Well - The weird question I have is how do we know what is really out there ? I can’t name have the NFL 2nd string players out there.

The weird part of the question is do The Rams really know either & at what price to move players on & off your Practice Squad roster ?

The Rams claimed how many NFL players from other teams & how many NFL teams claimed Rams Players?

I think the Rams pay guys to actually evaluate what's out there. And picking last in the waiver claim process makes it tough to claim a player that they may had interest in.

How long does it take to put in a claim on a player? Every player they are last at selecting? If there is 50 players to select from. The Rams are always last to claim.
Just trying to get a grasp on what that is? Where was Cinncy when they claimed OJ Howard ? Not saying they should have put a claim on him.
IMO The Rams really like there roster & had to make some tough cuts.

No, but during past years, especially since we lost Morgan Fox, some have suggested that Lewis might compete as a 5T lineman, he has the size & speed.
I have said this many times. I still believe he will grow even bigger.
