Wish I had a better understanding of the 2021 NFL Salary Cap.

There have been reports that the Cap may decline due to lost revenue from the pandemic.

There are teams that budget salaries based on the projected cap which has not declined for years. It’s difficult to say what kind of cap shape the Rams will be in come the off-season.

I look at Fowler. Was a stud while here and hasn't done shit in ATL. I think its the Donald effect.

Even Clay Matthew's was racking up sacks before getting hurt.

I dont want to get sucked into over paying for a guy. I think Lewis is going to be a stud. If Obo can stay healthy we may have some damn fine OLB already under contract. Im more concerned with ILB, personally.

Let someone else pay him 10mil a year while we have rookie contracts.

Floyd has been an asset and I'd love to keep him beyond this year. He isn't a flashy sack guy but he plays contain and does his job in Staley's defense very well. No other OLB'er has played as well this season. Idk what the future holds but I'd like to keep him at a modest veterans contract. The other linebacker positions will be held by cheap young guys for the next 2-4 years anyway.

I don't view him as integral. Could revisit depending on how he finishes the season.

Our edge rush is still lacking and we do need those flashy sack guys. Floyd is a guy who struggled to finish plays even opposite Khalil Mack .

Dude gets a game ball. Fans go, "he's just a JAG." smh.
He made a terrific jump-cut on that sack to get around the RT that reminded me of AD. I think he's still growing as a rusher to develop pass rush moves. Let's see where he stands at the end of the season & how much he can learn from AD & Henderson (our D-line coach?) and go from there. But I love his size & he's got him some skillz. If he keeps developing this season I'd love the Rams to sign him to a nice team-friendly deal for a top 15 OLB or so.

Floyd has done well here and there, inconsistent as a pass rusher and solid in the run game. Gets some flashy sacks. Going to have to see him do it consistently.

I'll reserve judgement because I thought we should've kept Fowler and it turns out the right move was letting him go, and at this moment, Floyd reminds me of Fowler.

This will be an interesting offseason. We may see a lot of one year contracts, which sucks for players.

A reduced cap could really suck for both sides. Players take a big risk with injury if they take a one year deal. Star players will have fewer options. Good teams will struggle to retain even mid tier free agents if they are already near the cap.

I wonder if a guy like JJ can be convinced to sign a 4 year deal with a first year paying much less than the last three.

If he got that jump swipe move figured out then it’s gonna be on like Donkey Kong. But it won’t be on like Donkey Kong for us because he’s gonna be Donkey Konging somewhere else for loads of Cash.

This Floyd issue will sort itself out.

Let’s cross this bridge in the offseason.

I will say that I’m in the camp that believes that playing with AD tends to turbocharge an OLB’s career.

Sooooo...

When you study what March 2021 will bring to Snead & McVay -UFA's & RFA's .....LB Floyd, starting OC Blythe, RB Brown, both starting corners Hill, & Williams, LS McQuaide, TE's Everett & Mundt, WR Reynolds, Top reserve DL Fox..... to name a few that will all enter free agency.

Reference the consideration of signing safety JJ III to a long term highly costly contract...... would the below be considered?

Rams have current starting safety Taylor Rapp (former top 2019 draft pick), starting rookie phenomenon budding star safety Jordan Fuller, 3rd rd 2020 draft selection promising rookie safety Terrell Burgess, Safety Nick Scott entering his 3rd season & three rookies JuJu Hughes, JR Reed & Tyrique McGhee under contract. Should I bring up that Jalen Ramsey was a Consensus All-American Safety @ FSU. That's EIGHT safeties!

Is there a possible discussion here of a need to spend salary cap funds that the Rams do not have to sign another safety?

I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd chooses to stay on a team friendly contract.
For the same reason we know that Fowler wasn't really a difference maker, the rest of the NFL knows that too. Smart GMs recognize that he isn't a true pass rush threat, so I doubt his offers would be anything like what Fowler got.

Let's see what happens the rest of the year before we start signing guys to big contracts after 7 games. If he keep getting sacks, however, we won't be able to afford to keep him. At least we would get a very good comp pick.
