But could we afford to pay what he's asking? Last I heard he was wanting McCaffrey dough.
And if we don't sign him, then what? Do we hit him with the Franchise tag for next year?
Seems to be a good bit of moving parts as far as Mr. Taylor is concerned.

We have a lot of cap space after this year so I think we could re-sign/extend either if motivated to do so.

The Burns question is interesting. Given that Carolina has failed to sign him to an extension, the clock is really ticking. Perhaps his price is lower now than it would have been last year?

As for Taylor, if we could acquire him without giving up our 2024 first round pick, I’d definitely be on board with that.
With the latest Bosa contract, that definitely made Burns more expensive

However with a top of the draft rookie QB, I think they’ll be forced to pay him because it would send a bad message unless it was to leverage adding more weapons or improving their OL

I dont understand the CMC comp. McCaffrey was also playing like a stud right up until the trade to San Fran. Taylor hasnt been on the field in what will be 10 months and we have no idea how much affect the injury will have.

I was referring to trade compensation, not his salary.

Price for a premier back. CMC came with his own myriad injury concerns.
Taylor is a notch below and I'm factoring in the injury issue.
Taylor, in a down year, was on pace for 1350 yards on the ground at 4.5 a carry.. and more than 40 receptions.

Have to add.. CMC only played 11 games last year and the previous few years were marred by injury. 2019 was last full season.

But we saw what "post injury" CMC looked like, we have no idea what "post injury" Taylor looks like.
Time will tell

Taylor is a stud and is way better than anything we have now at running back. The hold up is what the compensation and contract look like. If this part were not so complicated, a team would have completed a trade for him long ago.

What contract? Whoever trades for him can put a franchise tag on him after the season. I cant see how any team will give him an extension until the off-season

The contract he keeps pining for. You mean to tell me some team is going to trade for him with no contract in place? That's not happening and is the funniest thing I've heard all day. I just can't see a team trading picks, then going thru all the drama he'll bring if he's franchised. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Like the Rams did when they traded for Ramsey? And Von Miller?
I think its crazy to think that teams are negotiating contracts without knowing if the guy can even play, and of course what trade compensation is required.
So I'm glad you find it funny but tell that to Saquon and Jacobs who despite being healthy couldnt get a long term deal, but somehow Taylor will? Oh boy

If any got traded, it would come with a contract. It's literally been reported that the Dolphins had a contract in place for Taylor but they couldn't agree on draft compensation. Also mentioning Ramsey and Von Miller makes no sense. We signed Ramsey to an extension and we tried like hell to resign Miller and got outbid. Also, they play different positions so I got to imagine that running backs are trying to cash in right away since they're shelf life is much shorter than the positions you just mentioned

FWIW, Adam Schefter recently reported that Taylor is “going to pass his physical and could pass it today.”

Also what the heck does me finding this funny have to do with Saquon and Jacobs? They've already agreed to what they agreed to contract wise. This is directly about Taylor and Taylor alone. FYI, not trying to be disrespectful at all by the way, just really asking.

Please, pre-season rumors are meaningless now.
Miami has to pay Tua, and if that wasnt a priority in pre-season, it will be now

Its not a pre-season rumor that Miami has gone all in so having a contract in play makes tons of sense. Lets just say we'll both agree that the other is delusional hahaha

The RB market for long term deals is drying up. Neither Saquon nor Jacobs got their long term deals and had to take a 1 year deal.
And frankly, the Chubb situation makes it even worse for RB's, not better

On the other hand, it also makes it more urgent for Taylor to ask for long term security. There in lies the struggle. Only takes one team to do it. Never say never.
