If teams start trading their second-round picks, at less than draft chart rates, in order to avoid the guaranteed contracts, there could be some good discounts for shrewd GMs.

Buying opportunities for Les, incoming (maybe)

Good thinking.

Fucking Cleveland Browns ruin everything! Football contracts, factories, sadness, fanbases; hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they assassinated John F. Kennedy!

I have seldom found myself in the role of a “defender” in relation to the Browns. However, in this instance at least, I can’t see how they are anymore responsible than the Texicans.

They had the first pick in the second round. They controlled the rights to their pick. They didn't have to make the contract fully guaranteed.

It's not a big deal with teams like us; we're solid when it comes to picks for the most part, but with other teams likely spending a good portion of their cap on players who may be busts? That's a problem. They opened Pandora's Box when they had all of the leverage to not do that.

This may have a ripple effect, but the Rams usually sign their guys later on. Though last season they were finished by May 28th.

Avila's contract isn't too far off. 3 full years and 10% of the 4th season.

They made a great point on a repeat of Good Morning Football;
What the hell are they going to do with five quarterbacks?
Kenny Pickett
Shedeur Sanders
Joe Flacco
DeShaun Watson
Dillon Gabriel, (who they spent a third rounder on.

They can't keep all five, and which veteran do they release and who goes on the practice squad?

How do you get everybody reps in training camp?

I would think they have to keep their two draft picks this year in Sanders and Gabriel.
Either one on the practice squad gets snatched up.

Which veteran do they keep as the preliminary starter?

The Browns gonna Browns. :)

Watson is going to be on their IR so he wont count against the 53 man.
I would expect either Pickett or Gabriel to be a final cut and put on the PS, thus carrying 3 QB on the roster.
Sanders will find his way to start for that team at some point, whether deserved or not

This is the Texans fault not the Browns. The Texans signed their second round pick to a guaranteed contract first and then the Browns just followed suit.

So you're saying that they just wasted a third round draft pick on Dillon Gabriel?
That does sound like a Browns thing to do. :)

My wild ass guess is; they keep Gabriel and Sanders and start Flacco as the mentor until Sanders or Gabriel is ready.

Cmon. Nobody put a gun to their head. They didn’t have to do it.

I expect they will cut Flacco. He is done.

Watson goes to IR so he can spend all that guaranteed money they're paying him.

So their QB room will be some combination of Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders. Also giving Sanders the job right away would be a mistake because he's an entitled prick, so I figure he'll start things off as QB3. Pickett's a pussy but he has game experience so he'll probably sort into the QB2 role. My bet is Gabriel is QB1 for them.

And if they lose they are perfectly positioned to shit all over one of the top QBs in this draft as per usual.

Not saying it's a waste, they could final cut him and put him on the PS, pretty unlikely a team will give him a guaranteed roster spot. He's there to be groomed as a backup whether on PS or 53

I think Pickett will be cut
I'd send the Browns a future 5th rounder for Gabriel, he's better than Bennett

Maybe the initial thought is that a few other teams will see their veteran castoffs as a better backup QB and want to make a trade.

In that case, they get some late round draft picks.

Going into the draft they (GM/HC) likely had no intention of drafting Sanders and only did so after Haslem--going full Haslem again--stepped in and pushed them into it.

That ownership makes the Irsay family look shrewd.

If we're blaming anybody, it's the Texans. They did it first. Cleveland matched because they're the only team to pick before Houston. Now, the other teams can make their own call on how far they want to go. Frankly, I don't care if the Rams give Ferguson a fully guaranteed deal. It's not my money.

I mostly agree. They cut the loser of the Flacco/Pickett battle, put Watson on IR, and then have Gabriel and Sanders battle it out for QB2. Although, one or both will likely start games for them this year.
