Interviewing is a skill, and you should take advantage of every interview you can get.
At some point - it really is a waste of time. Sure, you want to learn how to interview - but your time is also valuable.

You would be perfectly fine wasting a day or two of your time interviewing for a job that had already been de facto given to someone else? I’d be pissed.

Can you imagine if an NFL player spent a day in early free agency visiting with or maybe even working out for a team who had no intention of making him an offer?

thats now what happened though.. bb had his "Brians" mixed up and let Flores no they had already hired someone before they even interviewed him.
Yes you are correct. And I acknowledged that in previous post.

Just thinking out loud....

When we were hiring for a new HC after Fisher, we interviewed McVay who had another interview lined up with San Fran. I believe we had other coaches to interview as well. Yet at the end of his interview, I believe it was with Snead or Demoff, that told him "good luck with the San Fran interview, but not that good of luck". They obviously had their guy in mind, yet interviewed more coaches after. Does that make every interview after McVay's discrimination or just if you're a minority?

OK, so you would be offended and pissed if they gave you a chance to impress. Fair enough.
If you already decided you are going to hire somebody else, don't waste my time.

I think the point is to put it out there publicly as an F U to Miami. The racism allegation is probably just to survive a motion to dismiss (which it will) and move into the discovery phase - where the NFL will fold like a cheap towel.

I'll come out and say it because no one else will. It looks like the race card got pulled because it's the only way this story really gains any traction.
Y'all notice how that's what we're all talking about at the moment? Not the 100k a game he got offered to tank? And probably got fired because of it. Lol. I mean common

But there are also going to be guys who prejudge some of the candidates.

Exactly and discrimination can be on many levels. My ex inlaws hated me before they even met me. The following is what I got from my ex brother inlaw:

1. Born in East LA
2. Not caucasian
3. Raised in the barrios of the SF Valley
4. Had to work his way through SF Valley State College
5. Was not a man of means (i.e. a millionaire) owning my own businesses with a six figure income was nothing but being a pauper
6. Was an obvious gold digger (she stood to inherit multi millions)
7. Was an obvious homicidal maniac because I was a Vietnam combat vet who owns guns!!!
8. I was a commie Democrat!!!

Okay all I'm saying is that discrimination can have many layers so to prove one is the operative cause is virtually impossible. Who really knows why they didn't want Flores. Brian had the same choices I had at S&P. I chose to move on because Nam taught me life is too short to waste time being unhappy, and bigots will always be bigots and you're not going to change them all.

You can disagree all you want but without any actual evidence it's pure conjecture

Just pulled a few Miami articles on him. Sounds like a real dumpster fire was going on down there. He basically stopped communicating with his coaching staff around Thanksgiving time. He may be a good coach but doesn’t sound like he gets along with others.

And if that shit is being published in newspapers and is public knowledge what owner would want to deal with that crap.

Okay, I think that the Rooney rule has failed. If what Flores said about Denver is true (that John Elway and company basically came in an hour late and hungover and conducted a sham interview), then yeah, that's a failure of a rule. There needs to be more of a grassroots movement to help people (not just people of color, but women as well, honestly; I think women could make excellent GMs and scouts. I know I'm biased, and I don't care.) get jobs in the coaching and front office, even if it's something like analytics.

There shouldn't be a limit to coaching jobs; look at what the Giants in baseball did; an amazing record and a playoff berth while having a ton of coaches, including a woman coaching. Even if you have to make up new jobs, get people involved who want to be involved.

EDIT: This may be me just rambling. I think it makes sense now, I may not think it makes sense later.
Did you come in late, hungover and write a sham post?

I read it that he thought the Giants were talking about Flores getting the job and it was Daboll getting it.
I dont know how it could be construed in any other way, he said that he got from and Buffalo NYG that he was their guy. Why the heck would Buffalo be talking about Flores?? Even Flores said wait, I just want to make sure you got the right guy.
Again, I like Flores and am pissed that they went with Daboll, but this just doesnt look good.

It's pretty simple, someone told Bill that the Giant's had their guy THREE days before Flores was supposed to be interviewing for the position. NFL teams are supposed to interview at least one minority before they hire a new head coach. Giants call Flores and tell him they're interested, bring him in solely to satisfy the Rooney Rule and waste his time when they've already made their choice. I don't know if it's illegal but it clearly violates the entire intended purpose of the Rule and it's a pretty crappy thing to do.

I think the far more interesting allegations involve paying for losses and numerous attempts to get Flores to violate NFL tampering rules by trying to recruit Tom Brady, but I think the reason this gets traction is because of the racism accusations. It also doesn't help that every coaching vacancy so far has gone to a white dude. 5 for 5.

I think there's one flaw there though. They'd already interviewed 2 minorities before Flores.

The only thing i'd like to add is that the more black coaches that are interviewed and hired into the pool as time goes on...the more black coaches that will get denied and fired.

It's not discrimination(necessarily). It is math(most definitely). With more opportunities come more failures.

It's a slippery slope if white decision makers get to the point where they become reluctant to fire black/minority GM's, HC's etc, out of fear of the negative optics of it.

The Rooney rule was put in place for good reason when it was. 20 years ago. What's the end game there?
