Damn it was hoping Shelton was going to be the starter. And we could have used that money on Bobby Wagner etc

Pressure D41,
Looks like Coach Mac and Mr. Snead value B. Allen much higher than many on this board do and, moreover, view Shelton as a backup primarily.
Besides Allen's deal does not put us out of the Von Miller competition.
Could very much have nothing to do with each other.
Just sayin'

Re-signing Allen & having Shelton means we don't have to hunt for a back-up Center later in the draft. Shelton can also compete at or back-up LG.

Fair price. I'd still like a little more weight and power at OC, but Allen has improved markedly every year. No reason to suspect that will not continue, and he is already solid albeit he can be overwhelmed by power rushers at times.

The Rams seem eager to retain their own OL. We will see if it pays off. The o-line was outstanding at pass pro all playoffs and, IMO, quietly among the biggest reasons we won the Super Bowl with this pass heavy offence. Stafford was kept very clean compared to most other QBs, despite facing some very talented defensive fronts. On the other side of the coin, we really struggled to run the ball. As in, we gained almost nothing on the ground for much of the post-season. That typically doesn't lead to Super Bowls. Excited to see how it plays out as the Rams try to run it back.

With this surprising news, I would look for RFA Coleman Shelton to be a primary prospect to fill the vacancy @ Right OG post where Austin Corbett played for 2 seasons.

CS proved to be excellent @ pulling & hitting his target on the move in run blocking. Having him team with Havenstein is sure to help that right side on running attack. CS is much more mobile than Austin Corbett & might cut down on all those RG whiff blocks we observe made by Corbett. I would expect Austin Corbett to get hard looks from NFL teams looking to improve the LG post. I can see the Bengals taking interest in him due to his good pass blocking blocks.
