I would not put the run gashing stink on ILB Travin Howard...DC Morris only let him start 2 gms @ that WSILB'er post. My thought is we needed Howard on the field more.

So which defenders started most of the gms @ ILB'er?

Rams sites state Troy Reeder started 10 gms @ MLB post. & Ernest Jones started 7 gms. Not sure just how much Taylor Rapp was included in the ILB gm starts??
I agree, I was more or less referring to Reeder coming back or Howard. I was listening to a podcast that has a certain LT on it and he said it's going to get easier and easier to run due to teams having so many Safeties turned ILB in the middle. I guess I'm old school in the face that I want a big bruiser in the middle.

Just how much is OBJ asking for? Anybody know?

Hard to tell if he’s being unrealistic without knowing what his demands are.

The Rams have the cap space to sign Wagner right now. The AD situation has no impact. They have a number which they think is fair, and he has a number he wants. And if those 2 line up, he signs. If they dont, he signs elsewhere. Its that simple.
Likely yes. Wagner needs to find what his actual number is. Apparently the Ravens didn’t come up with the right one either.
THIS.

Not sure where the narrative started that the Donald-extension was holing-up the ability to sign Wagner.
I think some people believe that the AD talks are causing the Rams to hold back money on free agent offers because they may need it to sign AD.
Just saw Peter King say that Wagner wants a 1yr $11mil deal. And we don't want to pay that, we want it lower.

I guess the flip side is we could always bring back Troy Reeder, or another UDFA.. of run it back with an undersized Travin Howard inside next to Jones and get gashed in the running game again.

There's maybe 3-4 defensive FA that would be improvements over what we currently have, outside of that, it's a bunch of washed up vets and JAGs.
Again, it has got to suck to realize that he’s no longer the guy that can command big contracts. Ego vs reality. Eventually he’ll lower his demands.

I also need to remind myself that DC Morris played primarily 5 DB's & a ton of 5 with only four upfront ....meaning only one ILB'er most all season so Morris's preference was to use smaller defenders to stop the RUN.:wow2::thinking:

I should also let it be known IMO starting safety Jordan Fuller who had a ton of tackles did not involved himself in run stopping he was very reluctant at best.:crying::thumbsdown:
I haven’t said it much when discussing my concern for DB depth, but you hit on a big one. These smaller DBs are not great tacklers ie, Burgess, Deayon and Long. It’s one part of Troy Hill’s game that was sorely missed last year. It’s tough to find DBs in later rounds that can cover and tackle. And if they do, it’s likely that they’ll still need a full year of NFL training to build themselves up to take that beating.

Hinting around about playing for other teams is an indication that he and his agent think the Rams should up their offer.

OBJ had a lot going for him in LA:

Kupp being the guy
Stafford’s accuracy and IQ
McVay’s offense
(he won’t get that with just any team)

Cons:

He hasn’t been durable
He has a history of discontent
He’s currently injured
Hes 30

It screams disillusionment or an agent trying to convince him that he’s back and they can cash in.

I guessed it was going to be $8m+. I would think the Rams would give him a contract that with incentives could be $8m but wonder what the Rams limit is?

Troy Reeder is not an NFL starting caliber MLB'er at best he could be a SS OLB'er reserve in a 43 D or lesser in a 34 D. This is what he was in 4 seasons in college.

Hopefully, Reeder as a starting MLB'er for the Rams has finally turned the page. I hope we will see more of Christian Rozeboom as the reserve MLB'er behind Jones for this season. One big positive that can be said about Reeder is he is a tough player who never missed a game due to injury in 3 seasons. ILB'ers i.e. Kiser, Young, Jones & Howard can say that.

Your a MID- West guy. All those teams are built tough & stop the run first.

Ryan Shazier was one of my favorites. The guy from Miss. St who played for the 9ers & that Penn st. guy next to him.
Bobby Wagner is a HOF LB & a guy like Humphries that Les Snead messed up with. Then again Ogletree was ok,but I loved Corey & Bryce who were excellent special team players first.
Christian Rozeboom is still a Rams core special teams guy who will be next man up if The Rams don’t make a major move.
I’m a Troy Reeder Fan & he is good as a Rams LBer.I don’t know about Howard, he is nothing special & limited.Comparing him to Reeder with Ernest Jones is not bad on run downs.

Justin Hollins is an interesting player.Raheem Morris knows this defense & has tested all The Rams defensive players. He knows there heart & character as well.I’m actually intrigued to see if he is better on the Right side of the ball.

E. Jones though is such a breath of fresh air.I saw him in training camp & thought this guy ain’t all that.He did cover well, but seemed a little slow & not to powerful. The thing is is that some of these Rams players are so young. He is just 22 years old & has so much room for growth. This guy is already calling the D” that had at least 3 HOF players on it.The first 9ers game he got over Powered.5 lbs of muscle is going to be good in 2022.

Bottom line is a Bobby Wagner would add excellent experience, but at what price. The Rams have never been big there with Les Snead.

Yeah ok Bonifay’d. Troy Reeder as a starting MLB for The Rams was part of the #1 NFL defense in 2020 & in 2021 helped The Rams win a SuperBowl.
I’m not going to say if The Rams need to bring him back or not,but yes he has been a HECK of a Ram Player.
He also called the defense in a playoff game which says a lot of his knowledge there. He also was good for E. Jones.
I’m like Loyal right now,I don’t care who The Rams have at least until after the draft.

The only stink on Howard is an inability to stay healthy. He was the starter in camp then gets hurt. Thus we were subjected to Troy Reeder.

If Wagner is really looking for one-year/$11M, I would think that's a non-starter for the Rams.

An $11M-cap-hit for Wagner in 2022!?!

The four players the Rams signed (Robinson, Noteboom, Allen and Shelton) are a combined $11.1M in 2022.

For 11 million dollars Bobby Wagner can sign anywhere in the world and I could give two shits. We have other needs he is more of a luxury. He owes us nothing but I'm glad the Rams holding firm. You want the dough go elsewhere. You really want to win get revenge on your team play at home have a great culture training and coaching staff and top line facilities you go rams. You want cash see ya

To be honest I would not even give him 7 million sorry. Rather put money towards a Clowney and a Corner if that's a route but those two positions would be priority..

He is likely a two down backer in the Rams eyes. What is the market on them, $5M per? Last offseason the Rams might have paid him too, but this year they have a guy projecting to being their 3 down guy.

Now the competition would be good for Jones but it has to be at the Rams price I think.

Wow $11M for one year is way too steep. I never got the big interest in Wagner thinking he would be a 2 down player at most. All this talk got me thinking the Rams really want him and would play him more. The Rams could sign Gilmore or Clowney for 2-3 years with a lower cap hit. I don't think they would go more years for Wagner.

How about $4M with incentives on PT.

Bobby Wagner can enjoy playing somewhere else. Not worth close to what he's asking to the Rams... at all.

Again.. the Rams won the fucking Super Bowl with a rotation of Jones, Reeder and Howard.

Safety Jordan Fuller can make tackles Butt-Monkey, Fuller has been a lurker, very slow on the draw, likes to watch others do the heavy lifting. JF favors to play deep but he is NOT good at it. I would prefer that DC Morris holds JF's feet to the fire in 2022 & make him the primary up close safety. The problem with that JF has proven injury prone.

Safety Nick Scott IMO has beat out JF as our deep safety by a large margin. NS is much faster & earned to start in the back of our secondary! JF never made a hit on 9ers Samuel like NS. It is not in him. It would be just wrong after NS 2021 season to push him back to the reserve unit on his contractual year.

Terrell Burgess has an outstanding early showing in his rookie season until his real bad lower leg/foot injury under DC Staley. Staley had TB playing every DB post he had. TB was a sure tackler in 2020. DC Morris does not want Burgess on the field. In 2021 Burgess was awful & could not make a tackle 2021 in limited cameo snaps.

Taylor Rapp can tackle & more often does rap up good too. But TR has coverage skills similar to an NT. HUGE liability :emergency:as a starting safety. Best utilize him as a reserve @ both ILB'er posts & never roaming deep in the secondary like DC Morris did in 2021.

Your statement on Troy Reeder "I’m not going to say if The Rams need to bring him back or not" speaks volumes on just how fine of a Ram MLB'er he was.:drum:

A 1 year 11 mill deal seems pretty reasonable to me, they could throw a void year or two in there and spread out the cap hit

I agree on Scott and Fuller. Fuller may be smart but he’s limited. I’d rather see Scott at free safety but I suspect it will be Fuller again.

I’d love to see a top free safety on the Rams but I doubt it ever happens under McVay.

Burgess looked small last year. Missing JJ’s and Hill’s tackling ability was predictable and it showed. If Rochelle isn’t improved and healthy the Defensive backfield will be a weakness.
