Bubba Ventrone cannot return to Cleveland next season

The Browns hired Ventrone because he was supposed to be a special teams guru. That hasn't looked like the case in Northeast Ohio, especially last season when the team ranked last in punt return yards allowed (522) and percentage of punts downed within the 20-yard line. They were also 31st in yards per kick return and 25th in yards per punt return.

Ventrone should've been let go last season. On top of Dustin Hopkins' struggles and his constant doubling down on him, punt coverage left plenty to be desired. They gave up 530 yards in punt coverage (31st) and 450 in the previous campaign (29th).

It's difficult to tell. That article is from something called DPD ... stands for Dog Pound Daily; and it's referred to as a Cleveland Browns fan site. Difficult to say how objective or knowledgeable is the source.

Hell, in my opinion, the Turf Show Times that covers the Rams is a fucking disaster.

Honestly, I'm most just knee herk reacting like a doofus. I can't be mad as to who the Rams bring in because something obviously needs to change on ST. Hopefully its more player centric like actually signing or drafting someone with actual kick return skills.

The only thing I know about Ventrone (and I know nothing about him as a ST coach) is from his playing career.

Ventrone was one of those "Mad-Men" who played for years as a special-teams-only Lunatic that flew down the field hitting anything that moved, with no regard for his health.

Not sure if that makes for an ideal Special Teams coach.

By-the-way, another player ... who was a contemporary of Ventrone ... that was EXACTLY that type of ST guy, was Chase Blackburn.

Still, this is one where I would have to just trust (hope) that McVay and Snead know what they are doing.

Browns did not rank well last year, but he had very good special teams with the Colts & Browns. I am shocked that McVay is going in another direction because I thought he would keep Kotwica.
I think this is a situation where you want to clean house for that unit and install a whole new direction. Also I would hope that at this point McVay realizes prioritizing bottom roster spots for teams is the way.

Teams coaches are no different in that they require talent to perform.

Browns didn't rank well in very much last year. He has a great track record and reputation. If his one bump is Cleveland I'm ok with giving him a shot.

Wait... So the Browns made a big to do about the new HC having to deal with Schwartz as their DC. This understandsably scared off a bunch of coaching candidates narrowing their list tremendously.

And the idiots didn't even ask Schwartz if he wanted to stay on with a new HC if he didn't get promoted?? This is why the Browns are a legendarily incompetent franchise...

But hey, at least they have a pro bowl QB lol.

It won't matter. He would run the defense that McVay wants him to run.
Maybe McVay would be more receptive after a shit year with the defense? I know Schwartz would probably speak up to. Who knows..... doubt Shula is going anywhere which is why the laugh emojis where at the end of my post
